Doughnut
Thanks chaps. Job come to a halt again, now, as I've run out of 0.4mm brass wire for the station OLE wires (and Hobbycraft haven't got any either!)
RMweb Gold Dagworth Posted December 5, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 5, 2013 Have you tried guitar string? It's what I use for my overhead and works very well. Andi
Doughnut
Yes Andi, Ive got some but it doesn't seem to come in big quantities, or am I missing something? The Salix brass stuff from hobbycraft, comes in 20m rolls. Dave K

The Salix brass stuff from hobbycraft, comes in 20m rolls. Dave K Ah, you are a home layout aren't you? My OLE uses a separate piece for ever section, with a hook joint under every registration arm. It makes for an incredibly strong construction that takes huge tension without problems. There are some details in my Ravensclyffe thread. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/3288-ravensclyffe/?p=23812 Andi Edited December 5, 2013 by Dagworth
Doughnut
Yes, its a home layout. I also use a seperate piece for every section, with a hook under every registration arm, as you do. I cut the brass wire, (after twisting it for added stiffness and straightening) into the required length between the two masts and have a hook at both ends. MattWallace
Dave, this is amazing! Did I miss the size of the layout and a track plan? If not, is is possible to see them? Thanks, Matt
Doughnut
Hi Matt. Many thanks. I've put a schematic up of the layout in the first few pics but it doesnt show the real shape of the layout. I do have a real track plan and will put that on today. It's about 25 feet long and 9ft wide. Dave K

Doughnut
Ok, I've grabbed it off my Acad drawing - dwg file. Exported it as an EMF file then saved as a JPEG. Its ok but a bit fuzzy. Clear as day in Acad?? The platforms with the blue writing on them are Minsterley station, that Ive been working on. MattWallace
That's amazing, I'll have to track down acad and see if it plays well with the DXF export from xTrckCad
Doughnut
Thanks Matt. I'll try exporting in DXF and see if that's any better. No OHLE wiring today, so installed some platform lights, instead. Dave K Edited December 6, 2013 by Doughnut
Doughnut
Another week, another bit done. Finished running the OLE into the station and Station roof off, to tart up the platforms with benches, Platform numbers/signs, departure boards, escalators...etc. Dave K Edited December 13, 2013 by Doughnut
Swifty11
Brilliant! I can't wait to see some trains running!
Doughnut
Thanks. There are plenty of trains to be run on it and i'm just itching to get them running, but it might be a while yet, still got to finish the track circuit and then there's the wiring. RMweb Premium Welly Posted December 13, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 13, 2013 I love the detailing on the layout and the OHLE, they look great! The platform information screens just looks perfect! But I don't recognise the overall roof design, which prototype station has that design?
armleyroad
Speechless, , epic modelling!
Doughnut
Hi Welly, Well it's a reversed Waterloo, with a touch of Manc. Pic...sort of thing...a new design I suppose! It's dark acrylic sheets, cut to suit, with plastruct C-section painted with Oily steel. I think Waterloo (Old canopy-reversed) was the thing that inspired it though. Thankyou, I'm pleased you like it, you too armley. Dave K
Doughnut
Finished the station area this week, with the exception of the Station building which is still being constructed and have finally been able to progress with the track laying on the other side of the layout. a lot of points to go in over there and crawling around under the baseboard to fix the point motors and frog switches isn't on my favourites list; makes ballasting seem like fun. Used one of the Peco double switches for the first time on the new cross-over and it was quite a faff. Think I'll stick to one frog switch for each point motor. Also put up some more backscene, which I made using locally taken pictures and some free panarama software to join them all together.
