ThePurplePrimer
Hi GuysAndy has kindly allowed me to tell you a little bit about what I do here on RM Web - Thank you AndyI am a figure painter who started to become interested in model railways about 18 months ago and have been reading and scheming about a layout of my own.About a year ago I grabbed a few railway figures to paint and loved the character of railway figures and did another, then another etc etcThen I decided to give up a perfectly good job and do this full time instead I am currently painting in 4mm and 7mm scalesI am selling on ebay and direct for those that would like to order direct and I have a website ( that I really need to keep more updated ) at www.thepurpleprimer.co.ukAnyway that's enough for now - let me show you a few of my figures if I may .... ThePurplePrimer
The pictures I put on here will be a little out of sync for a while but I hope to show you a few examples of what's on my bench from time to time Here is what came off the bench today - this one from Phoenix - it's a 7mm scale figure of a foreman or boss type fellow
ThePurplePrimer
Here is a 4mm - 00 Gauge one I did a few weeks back as part of a commission A gent in a very smart suit - lovely figure from Dart Castings Edited November 13, 2013 by ThePurplePrimer
shortliner
There appears to be a problem with your link ( which gives a 404 Error) - I eventually got to it by using http://thepurpleprimer.co.uk/wp/ Edited November 12, 2013 by shortliner

Kenton
Here is a 4mm - 00 Gauge one I did a few weeks back as part of a commission I'm not a fan of little people on my layouts, however that could change my mind. That 4mm gent looks really special. But please figures have scale but certainly not gauge. Edited November 12, 2013 by Kenton

I'd agree completely but when you're selling on ebay any attribute in a title may help a search and possible sale...actually my better half has suggested I may be Broad Gauge - cheek... Kenton
I'd agree completely but when you're selling on ebay any attribute in a title may help a search and possible sale...actually my better half has suggested I may be Broad Gauge - cheek...There is the opposite argument that misleading terms used in a ebay description simply clutter up search results and aggravate the person doing the search. For example if I was doing a search for Triang (gaud forbid) I do not want to plough through 100's of items/pages of 'Hornby'. Also if I were searching for "4mm,figures,painted' I would not wish to be distracted by brass kits or old copies of BRM. But I guess that is not a problem now I have your website bookmarked. -missy-
Good luck to you Rob. Those figures look absolutely amazing, I am sure you will get lots of orders. Shame you dont do 2mm figures though Missy
cromptonnut
Some very nice work there - and good prices too particularly for the 7mm figures which are of interest to me. My only concern is that getting some of yours will make my feeble attempts look even worse, so it's an "all or nothing". Bookmarked for future reference... ThePurplePrimer
Here is one I really like - something about the face on this one It's a 7mm one and the casting is by Dart Also have decided to put a smaller picture as the big ones don't always give a great impression of how the figure will look Edited November 13, 2013 by ThePurplePrimer
ThePurplePrimer
But it's not all sexy white metal castings ... I love the Dapol ( ex Airfix ) hard plastic figures - bags of character. They do need quite a bit of clean up work before you can get some paint on them and removing the bases is a real chore and far from easy to get right but I think they still look great. This of course is a 4mm figure - you could use him on your 00 layout but he is of course not 00 gauge himself ;-)

Very nice painting though.
ThePurplePrimer
Ok today we have a little set for a vignette that was part of a larger commission - finished these last week These are 4mm 1/76 00 - Lovely castings from Dart again Painting the pigeon was huge fun - deeeep breath before doing pigeon eyballs in 4mm scale
ThePurplePrimer
Here is another 7mm one - again from Dart Castings This is a railway worker leaning against something and drinking a cup of tea - an excellent pose on this one and a great character. He seems to have a very smart and newish flat cap on but is drinking out of the oldest chipped and tea stained mug in the yard - but tea always does test best out of an old mug doesn't it ?
ThePurplePrimer
Well today I have started playing with youtube videos - seems I have a lot to learn White balance, sorting out a tripod for my iphone etc etc But do you feel this is potentially a good way to showcase figures ? Here is my test video ...
cromptonnut
Quite effective although I'm not sure the music was entirely helpful - although that's only my personal opinion. The quality of the video and the way it shows off your work is very effective. The only possible change I might suggest is to show a 'before' turn of the raw unpainted figure as that shows what a difference your work can make to a lump of metal. cromptonnut
It's worth a try and getting other's opinions - something as simple as Windows Movie Editor that comes free with some versions of Windows is adequate for that. You could probably do with some sort of "opening title" sequence even if it's just a still image for a couple of seconds too just to stamp it as your own. I don't know how video-savvy you are but happy to help if you want it.
alfsboy
As the sculptor of the Dart Castings figures all I can say is well done .They look great .I hardly ever bother to paint my own figures so some i havnt seen painted before .You have done them more than justice.
