Etched Pixels
Just out of interest what would the design life of a kit built locomotive be before you had to change its motor? It depends what the kit manufacturer designed it for. You can get very good quality expensive motors if you want. Of course it may be cheaper to use crap ones and change them each month! A good example of what can be done when not pennypinchng is the CJM chassis in N gauge. The design specification was to survive the Chunnel demonstration layout - doing 22 miles a week (thats real not scale miles!). Chris is rather proud of his record - the odd traction tyre replacements is about the limit of usual repair. You don't even have to oil them. In this case you get what you pay for - which is why they are about £350 a chassis ! Alan
pete_mcfarlane
According to their Facebook page they aren't now going to be opening at Easter and they are still trying to recruit people to help. At least I think that's what it says, since it's written in text speak.

'CHARD
The video makes for an interesting taster. Hard to tell as the train is blurred due to its scale 250mph, but it looked a bit like a 4F on a rake of InterCity swallow Mk3s. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=215778661950345&set=vb.197665167095028&type=2&theater Or is my medication playing tricks? Coombe Barton
Taster for what? (my impression) Sadly this looks as if a lot of effort is going to waste.
pete_mcfarlane
The bowstring bridge looks very nice, although is that a POW or Concentration camp I spy on the German layout? I hope the other International layouts aren't as stereotyped.

Andy Y
Anyone know if this got off the ground? The April opening was postponed; I believe they're intending to open later in May. Latest progress images can be seen on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/wonderfulworldtrainsplanes.co.uk I can't hide it; I'm worried about the marketing and content. Coombe Barton
I'd seen the Facebook page but if any mention of opening was there (apart from "this year") it was well hidden. The only things that look anywhere scenically complete are the POW camp and the Thomas bit, but with the limited diorama type pix what's not shown? If it flops or they open too soon then it may be like the various "Santa in Lapland" failures we read of every Christmas, and that's not going to reflect well on the hobby in general. [EDIT] And then I read that the Thomas layout is on loan from the Bournville club.
pete_mcfarlane
So that really is a model POW camp

pete_mcfarlane
Apparently they are now open, although it's hard to tell exactly what's going on as they have multiple Facebook pages and the website is still just a splash page. Philip Jackson
I went last week with my son. He enjoyed the slot cars and had a go at the flight simulator. I found the layouts were superb, lots of inspiration and nice to see it as a work in progress. The staff were very friendly and happy to explain everything. Watch out for bears though. There were some on the golf course apparently
