Ha, I like what you did there! The green one at Swanage will be D6515 (33012).

My last pic on the subject is a throwback to the 90s.

Nice picture.  I love the herd of platform trolleys in the shot, milling about at the top of the ramp.   A bit different from the usual gathering of brutes, perhaps?

Cheers,

I’m guessing Post Office trolleys Paul?

I remember PO examples being pulled across the road from the sorting office (Salisbury) over to platform 1 and down the subway to meet trains back in the day.

I remember those too, but for the most part the PO ones I recall were rather different; rubber tired and battery-powered/assisted, otherwise the poor posties would have had to have been built like the Terminator to get them up and down the subway ramps, let alone across the road to the sorting office!  :D

I managed a few shots of 33012 at Marylebone last August on a charter. A nice unexpected treat on a day out in London.

33012 'Lt Jenny Lewis RN' waits for the road at London Marylebone having arrived on the rear of 1Z36 from Quainton Road, hauled by 20007 and 20142. This working was 5Z36, to move the stock over out of Platform 1a and into the Wall Siding, aadjacent to where the train is currently sat.

49881459837_b42787c791_h.jpgThe old and the new - 33012 and 68015 London Marylebone by Steadfast Fotography, on Flickr

Contentious moment time. Is Photoshop cheating?
As the pair of 20s lead 5Z36 into the Wall Sidiing at Marylebone, 68015 sits atop its set waiting time. I had the shot nicely lined up, and as 33012 started to come into view two chaps appeared from nowhere! The one in the black I can live with, but there was another in a bright blue shirt right in front of the 33! Is it worth it? I don't know, but I love the contrast between the old and new locos so felt it worth persevering with.
I'm not one to go removing pylons or animals from shots, but I guess this shows the perils of shooting trains in platforms!

Morning folks.

I was wondering if anyone would know why the 33s in particular often seemed to missing the centre part of the snowploughs?

I’ve been asking around but I’ve never heard a completely convincing argument.

Also I was wondering if apart from railtours did any of the Construction liveried locos venture down to Devon?
Any help much appreciated!

Nick

The Western Region shunting staff at Bristol TM didnt like coupling the Class 33s when they were plough fitted, and so as a safety measure the centre plough was removed very often in the spring, summer period, and refitted in the late autumn. This comes up several times in Southern Region Traction Conference meetings. The attached page is from 15th October 1981. Its something I mention several times in my forthcoming Class 33 book Class 33 A Sixty Year History due out in July from Crecy Publishing.

Best wishes

Simon
