I thought that would be the case.

Definitely not the 9th, we've got "Weeds" at home! Now to tell swmbo we're coming home from Wales on the Friday 'to avoid the Saturday traffic!'

Afternoon all

An early post for me! Tidworth had visitors again today with the visit of Hampshire Hog and PaulRhb from these parts this afternoon to 'test' the layout again. All seemed to run okay and a few pics were taken for the records.

Ramilies comes to a stand in the middle road with a short engineers' train.

50046 Ajax waits for the Reading service to depart before following it down the single line. The Class 101 is on loan from Laira to cover for the currently unavailable 117 unit.

The Sapper rests on the engine roads awaiting it's next duty.

As you can see the ballasting is finished apart from a bit of weathering down and the 'temporary' scene setting buildings have returned for now!

Yes it runs well and there are lots of opportunities for shunting in a realistic way to drop and reform trains. Thanks for the invite Ian I'm looking forward to the scenics and will keep my eyes peeled for foam.

Hi Ian, ballasting looks good, really makes a difference. Neatly done too.

Ramilies and Ajax really do look at home at Tidworth, you are definitely creating a lovely layout.

Whilst I was never a huge 33 fan as being from the Eastern and not Southern region they were not seen very often but I did always like Eastleigh in green with the small yellow warning panel. Nice!

Evening all

Thanks for the positive comments, whilst I had the layout up and running I carried on playing this evening after the guests had gone and took some more pics before packing away the traverser board which was half out on the patio! I then split the main boards and attended to some slight over expansion issues with the track in the heat this morning, and reassembled them ready for further scenic works to begin.

33030 arrives from Portsmouth in place of an unavailable 'Thumper'.

Having uncoupled and run forward, the Crompton begins it's run round movement.

'30 now ready to depart back to Pompey.

47187 eases an MoD train out of the sidings.

Later on the resident 'Gronk' positions a Cargowaggon in the covered unloading shed. The site of the groundframe that controls the crossover is alongside the loco.

These pics are all taken from the operators side of the layout and I'll take more from the viewers standpoint next time once I have done a bit more work.

I'm looking forward to the scenics and will keep my eyes peeled for foam.

Watch this space as I spent most of yesterday afternoon making an awful mess chopping and carving Celotex foam that I picked up in Wickes for £4. Also does anyone need about 1.6 metres of guttering that I have left over from making the low relief silos? ;)

Evening all

So before the light went in the conservatory tonight I thought I'd get some pics of Saturday's work after a big clear up!

View down the layout from the bridge end showing the Celotex foam embankment and the ground build up behind the platform face.

View back the other way. The platform will get a cardboard topping and other treatments, while the embankment along the back will become a chalk face with added green. I haven't finished the carving around the bridge itself yet but the road will drop from left to right across the bridge.

Two views of the china clay facilities with the latest additions being the three low relief silos from Wickes guttering!

More when I've made them look more appealing.

Hi Maisie

Both scenic boards and the traverser are 1.4m x 0.6m ( roughly 4.5 x 2 foot).

I have to say you have fitted a lot of interest in a relatively small area and it does not look cramped at all. An awesome layout right up my street! Will draw plenty of inspiration from it.

If you have a second could you run your eye over my proposed track plan? Its not as professional as the wallpaper but I would appreciate your opinion!

Many thanks

Thanks Maisie

As I said on your thread I can't really take the credit for the trackplan entirely as I started with Andy P's Kingsmill which I flipped over and then tweaked to suit my needs. This will be my first, hopefully, exhibition layout so I wanted it to be interesting to watch and more importantly operate.
