cary hill
A few Cornish scenes: The Dodman with spectacular coastal views towards the Lizard and Bolt Tail but not on this occasion. The sea mist sweeping and swirling around and over the top cleared briefly to reveal battered human and ape skull rock formations, which was sort of appropriate as the other name locally for the Dodman is the Deadman. Walking along the ditch between the twin Dodman Iron Age promentary fort "Bulwark" defence works which stretch for some 600-700 metres sealing off the headland. The inner "wall" is 6 metres high for much of it's length. Certainly not unique but here's the village library/book exchange at Gorran Haven. A cursory inspection of the book inventory revealed it had more copies of Fifty Shades of Grey than any other book. A general view of Mevagissey with the weather as advertised Edited June 21, 2016 by cary hill
Ozexpatriate
A cursory inspection of the book inventory revealed the it had more copies of Fifty Shades of Grey than any other book. Perhaps it's not what you think - an expanded essay on the weather for the other eleven months perhaps?

rockershovel
Yesterday definitely wasn't one of them! Drove from Waterbeach to Peterborough via interminable back roads. Torrential rain at times, road flooded in several places, branches down... held up at Holme Crossing for several trains to pass... ended the trip in general congestion around Yaxley due to A1 being closed following a multiple vehicle crash involving stolen vehicles. Not a good day.

Not a good day. In the West Country we had another fine day. I went by train and bus to Moretonhampstead, then walked along country lanes, with views of the Devon countryside. Then up onto Blackingstone Rock. one of the rocky outcrops on Dartmoor for this view, Before walking into Bridford to visit the excellent Bridford Inn for lunch, followed by a pint of cider in the beer garden cheers!

RMweb Gold DaveF Posted August 10, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 10, 2016 (edited) I went out for a drive in Northumberland today. Some of you may know the locations, others might like to try finding them on Google Earth or with a map. Sea from Longhorsley Moor Simonsides from Wards Hill. The NBR Rothbury branch ran through the valley here. House near Wards Hill This is really a railway photo as the NBR branch from Scotsgap to Rothbury ran through the phots. There was also a short line to a colliery which was situated below the scrub in the foreground. Flying low over the Simonsides. A panned photo - the plane was moving, the landscape wasn't. Fontburn reservoir Fontburn station, on the NBR Rothbury branch was near here. David Edited August 10, 2016 by DaveF

RMweb Premium 47137 Posted August 22, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 22, 2016 (edited) I wish I could learn to read things all the way through. I've always read this topic as "Days when you know you live in the British Isles" - but perhaps the "why" didn't/doesn't add anything for me. In this photo (2012) I don't think I noticed the two bits of plant until uploading today ... I was looking at the canal lock. According to my notes this is near Eckington, which is somewhere within striking distance of Cheltenham. - Richard. bike2steam
Yep, Strensham Lock, last time thro' there in 2010 on the tiller of a 65 foot narrow-boat, love the River Avon, but crap for good moorings, especially during the main holiday season. Yours truly on said trip negotiating the bridges just south of Pershore. Edited August 22, 2016 by bike2steam
RMweb Premium skipepsi Posted August 22, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 22, 2016 Funny that, the Eckington I know is not that pretty it is in North East Derbyshire, don't google it you will get tumbleweed across your monitor....
bike2steam
The Eckington in Worcestershire ( Strensham on the west bank of the Avon, Eckington on the east bank) is a neat village, not pretty, it's one claim to fame is the old bridge over the River Avon on the Pershore Road.
RMweb Premium 47137 Posted August 23, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 23, 2016 Yes I remember the road bridge now - it is narrow and has traffic lights on it. You can park beside it and walk along the tow path to get shots of the railway bridge and the embankment to the south. It's like claiming the ther man's grass is always greener, but I found far more photogenic locations around Glocs and Worcs than I've ever found in Essex. This is the railway over the Avon near Eckington, this was in the Spring of 2012: Richard.
