The next batch are from Didcot on a visit in May 1979.  They had Morris dancers as an extra attraction.

Didcot Morris Dancing May 79 C4536

Wow - we often bemoan the aging of the model railway community, but look how young those Morris Dancers are ... I don't think I have ever been out and about in the last 20 years and seen Morris Dancers looking that youthful!!!

As always David, such a great thread, thanks for sharing all the piccies!

Good evening, David. That’s a most excellent set of photo’s of the Great Eastern at Manningtree, from visits in 1976, and 1977. In the first photo’ of 47135, on a Norwich to Liverpool Street service, on the 28th March, 1976, that’s an excellent three quarter shot of the 47, and it also shows that the second roller blind has got a bit crumpled up, and is illegible.

The photo’s of Didcot from a visit in May 1979, are quite superb, and I’m saying nothing about those Morris dancers. 😉

Now, in C4525, 1366 looks delightful at the head of those three GWR carriages. A superb three quarter portrait shot.

That’s an excellent set of photo’s of the Midland Railway line from Nottingham Midland to Newark Castle and Lincoln St Marks, as heading north east, starting at Gonalston crossing, just east of Lowdham. In J1821, at Thurgarton, with a class 104, on a Derby to Lincoln St Marks service, in August, 1969, your Dad has captured a most atmospheric shot, and what a window on the right. It reminds me of ancient churches. The railway architect may well have intended just that.

The latest Switzerland photo’s of Langenthal, on 11th August, 1988, are a delightful and atmospheric selection. And that is  certainly a most complicated history!
In the last photo’, of EBT, Be4/4s, 105 and 104, on a Langenthal to Huttwil freight, that is a most expertly composed shot of the double headed train.

With warmest regards,

 Rob.

Good evening, David. That’s a fantastic selection of photo’s of Toton. In C4577, with 44007, on a down train of empty coal wagons, in May, 1979, you can see the state the Peak was in by then, with those large grills having seen better days.

The photo’s of Pirbright Junction on 17th April 1971, are a delightful set, with J2604, of class 33, 6583, on an up parcels train, being a great view of a typical parcels train from the early Seventies.

Finally, the photo’s of Peak Forest, as on the 19th April, 1990, are a superb selection, and capture the place perfectly. In C14418, with another photo’ of 37425, shunting, you have an excellent side shot of the 37.

With warmest regards,

Rob.

I wonder what the story behind the mixed Freightliner/ GUV formation was? I've seen photos of mixtures of Freightliner and air-braked wagons, but never NPPCS stock like this.

Think the SR had a fair few air- or dual-braked GUVs, but still, if it was newly-overhauled stuff as @keefer a few posts above suggests, why are the few (5-set?) container wagons loaded with containers? Also a 4Z headcode, so [shrugging shoulders icon]
