Interesting pic - must be a fairly important train, RKB with Met-Camm (former Pullman) FO for dining.

Seems odd to me seeing a 37 on a long, mainline train but of course they were used on the GE trains to non-electrified destinations.

Perhaps it was used by the managers of several regional companies.

And the menu would have been either a certain brand of Turkey or Fish Fingers, accompanied with a Mustard sauce?

In C1383 is that a livery or just a thick coating of cement dust? I note that in C1385 the 0-4-0 shunter is also a very light colour but the class 11 is darker.

And Happy Christmas to you - and to all who follow this thread.

I think that would be good posted in the "Ghosts in the Machine" thread!

Merry Christmas David, and a big thank you for ALL your posts, pictures, memories and time.

Happy Christmas David and thank you for all of the posts. Although my memories don’t stretch back as far as some, the shots of the West Riding and ECML in the 1990s evoke wonderful memories of a very happy childhood there.

I especially appreciate a Christmas Day post, particularly when it features Wharfedale!

Hope you have a wonderful day and all the best for 2024.

Good evening, David, and Merry Christmas. That’s a great selection of photo’s of Cracoe on the Grassington branch, Selside and Riccall South. J0857, at Selside, with Class 45, D17, on the down Thames Clyde express, in April, 1967, is superb and well composed shot, by your Dad, of the well known express train.

The photo’s, from a folder of odds and ends, are a fascinating set. I particularly like the first photo’ at Lewes, with the Bullied, Co-Co, electric locomotive, in 1950 - a real gem showing a locomotive you do not often see.

The four photo’s on the ECML, with one at Dandry Mire on the Settle and Carlisle, are an excellent selection. That’s a fascinating comparison between the slide films used in your camera and that of your Dad’s in the first two photo’s at Great Ponton, of train 1A14, which, from the Napier Chronicles, is the 08:30 Halifax to King's Cross (08:50 ex Bradford, 09:20 ex Leeds).

With warmest regards,

Rob.

Merry Christmas to you too Dave.

In the words of Captain Mainwaring "I wondered who would be the first to notice that."

Now corrected.

The stand off in Cracoe Quarry between 12083 and the 0-4-0 looks like an illustration from a children's story where the plucky little hero is  is standing it's ground against the big blue bully!

Thanks so much for sharing all these great shots you have,

Stuart

A few extra photos which may or may not have been in this thread before, they are from a folder of odds and ends photos.    They will appear from time to time over the next few days and will posted in a random order.

Fantastic phot, thanks for posting.
FYI, loco looks to be 20001 and the headcode is, I believe, correct for a Victoria to Newhaven boat train.  HTH

Good evening, David. That’s a great set of photo’s of the Keighley and Worth Valley from 1968 to 1970, all at Keighley. J1335, of Ivatt 2-6-2T, 41241, on an Oxenhope to Keighley service, in July, 1968, is a particularly excellent portrait shot, from the rear, of the locomotive.

The mixed bag of photo’s is a tremendous selection. The first photo’ at Derby, with two BR Class 5’s departing on a down express passenger working, in about 1961, being a superb shot of the explosive departure.

The London Tilbury and Southend photo’s are an excellent set. The last photo’ at Laindon, with 302227, on a Shoeburyness to Fenchurch St, service, in December, 1978, is a superb photo’, and captures well another electric unit going about it’s sterling work.

With warmest regards,

Rob.
