RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted May 26, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 26, 2014 About time I started my own thread to show some of the work I carry out on RTR stock. All modern image and bang up to date (mostly). It's all for my own layout but as always something new catches your eye and I will move on locos and stock that are no longer at the fore of my modelling. Anyway first project to show is my take on the Colas KFA wagons pictured with 56105. Me and my brother designed and produced the ends and stanchions. You may see some more crop up on here in the near future! Anyway hope you enjoy and all comments welcome. Pics taken on IPad so not the best but you get the idea.
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted May 26, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 26, 2014 Hi Andy, KFA looks good! Just got my 8 to finish off. Cheers, Mick
RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted May 26, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 26, 2014 Today's work bench includes a minor transfer application to 56105. Re-paint of a Bachmann virgin 57 into West Coast Rail 57601 and Colas 56113 awaits transfer application post last weeks re-painting. Meanwhile today I have weathered the KFA, a Bachmann VGA and N/R generator coach. Plenty more to come.
RBE
KFA looks great, not so keen on the weathering on the genny coach though. I have a thing about airbrushed vents. IMO it is impossible to weather convincingly with airbrush alone and being yellow makes it stand out all the more. I prefer to run some carefully applied washes to those kind of areas. cheese
KFA looks fantastic. What wagon parts did you use to make them? Looks like a Heljan Cargowaggen IPE flat as the base?
RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted May 29, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 29, 2014 Yeah vents on genny aren't great but recoverable. Looks worse in photo to be fair. I will revisit them soon. KFA base wagon is Heljan corus rail wagon. Me and and brother designed and produced all the add on parts. Thanks for the praise. Andy
RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted June 6, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 6, 2014 Latest projects. 37116 and 37421 in Colas colours. Just noses to paint, decals, weathering, refit glazing and handrails. The Chassis are already prepped. Really like doing the Colas colours and as such next will be another 37 and a 60. Hope you like.
RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted June 9, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 9, 2014 Painting completed, noses and touch-ups/ detailing done. Both pairs of noses have needed modifying to represent the prototype locos. I will add pics later with all transfers applied.
sub39h
look really good mate. would it not have been easier to take the noses off before spraying the bodies?
RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted June 9, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 9, 2014 Not really. I've done it both ways before but these noses were welded on and not coming off easily. Thanks.
RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted June 9, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 9, 2014 Transfers complete on WCRC 57601, Colas 56113, 37421 and 37116. Varnish next and re-build. Will weather the 56 and 57 but I'm going to leave the 37's for now. I'm really please with them all.
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted June 9, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 9, 2014 Nice work. Colas livery seems to be the new favourite to replace DRS. I've got 70808/60021/37219 to start soon. Cheers, Mick
RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted June 9, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 9, 2014 Thanks Mick. I have another Colas 37 and a 60 to do. DRS is still hugely desirable, I have a 20 to covert, already have 37409, 37609, 37610 and 47501. Really looking forward to one day having a 68! RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted June 27, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 27, 2014 Little update. 2 pairs of brothers tonight. I painted one of each and the others were pro re sprays. All my pics are from an iPad so not the best. Hope you enjoys.
RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted June 28, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 28, 2014 A few pics of the recently completed Colas 37's. Both now moved on but the next one is for me to keep. Also WCRC 57601, weathered to a nicely run in condition.
DavidM
All look good but it's a shame that '116 is the incorrect refurbished example. I suppose it's not too easy to get hold of 37/0 bodies right now...

RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted July 10, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 10, 2014 My current DRS collection. 37409, 37609, 37610 and 47501. 37409 is the Limited edition Model Rail one and the others are all re sprays of mine. 37609 is not yet finished and the body is plonked on. All with functioning lights and sound, 37's have Legomanbiffo and the 47 has Howes. I will be doing another 37 and 47 in the future with the new DRS livery and also have a 20 to do at some point. Any comments more than welcome.
Tase
I'd be interested to see how you get on producing the new DRS livery. Are you doing it as a decal?
RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted July 10, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted July 10, 2014 (edited) I'm buying the transfer off the shelf! Nice and easy. Edited July 10, 2014 by Andy7
