Latest completions seen below. 43102 in Intercity livery (when with EMR) is now complete with detailed chassis and a little weathering. But if a pig to do this one if I’m honest. Turned out great in the end and will partner 43274 (the purple one) on Badgers cross layout now. DRS 68033 ‘The Poppy’ has now been all but completed. It was a renumber and rename of 68008 which was slightly tricky with the 68008 name removal. I have also fitted a wire loop coupling as the 68 couplings are a pain. Need to put a driver in and finish the roof weathering at the next airbrush session. WCRC 33207 has been back to the workbench for more detailing, extra weathering, painting the wheels and finishing off the buffer beams/fitting of ploughs. Painted this one ages ago to a very good standard but never sorted out the finer details. Now looking mighty fine and ready to pull the below coach (amongst others). WCRC Mk2 FK 13440 was a full repaint of the Bachmann model. I have painted the table tops and armrests along with fitting Hornby lighting and then weathering it. Really happy with this beauty. Will add passengers to the full rake when complete. Need to do a load more now to complement the Pullman’s I have. Donor coaches are purchased just need complete reworking. GBRF 66711 has also been completed for ages but returned to have illuminated models lighting boards fitted. Now done this along with the above will return to the layout for play time. Great work Andy. How easy / difficult are those Illuminated Models lighting boards to fit? Are they worth the effort? Thanks.

Totally changes the look of the front end of a Bachmann 66 or 57 (the 2 classes I have done). The instructions for them can be a little confusing despite looking very thorough but you can work it out. I will add the 57 (delner 57/3) is a bit more involved.

Totally agree with what you say Andy as have done both 66 and 57 myself. Easiest was the sunshine light upgrade on Hattons 66. One problem I did encounter with the Bachmann 66 locos was that, depending on age of loco, the PCBs do vary quite a lot so there was a bit of head scratching to address the variations for soldering the connections to correct outputs on PCB. Worth the effort though. John 1

They are easy to fit, and figuring out the wiring if it doesn't match the instructions is a bit of fun !! There's 'before' & 'after' pics in my thread of various 66's and 57's, if you want to see the difference. Cheers, Phil. 1
RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted February 18, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 18, 2022 So I have all but finished the new Bachmann 47828 deluxe as per its condition today. Only but not done is the multiple working connectors on each tablet panel, (not sure where these are coming from yet so feel to suggest somewhere to source them from). There are a couple very minor bits that I am not doing. What I have done is: Body off and weather fans and pipework seen through the body side windows. Also a driver painted in his viz fitted at each end. Body has had side steps filled and paint touched in. Kickplates below doors painted on. One of the noses has had the light lenses removed, white paint taken off and the surrounds painted yellow. Warning flashes changed for modern items. The chassis has had all details fitted (number 2 end only fitted what won’t foul the coupling). The wheels have been painted and slip marked added. Bogies have been detailed as required. Buffer shanks painted silver and then I have hand and airbrush weathered. It’s looks great but I had to do the body a little more than I would have liked to blend in the filled footsteps. mall in all a huge amount of work for a loco that hasn’t even been repainted Anyway I hope you like, I love it and can’t wait to give it a proper run on Badgers Cross 2.
rob D2
Looks good, I’d be interested in what you think of the mechanism as all my old Bach 47s are not exactly smooth and a bit grindy compared with Hornby diesels .

RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted March 9, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 9, 2022 (edited) So wanting to finish my 47828 and not having any multi working sockets I just made my own. Finished article seen below. Also finish off a half started of project of 47832 in WCRC Maroon. An interesting one with quite a few details needing sorting, including: flush head code panels at both ends, filled side steps and stainless radiator grill covers (still needs another low mounted nose socket when I find one).. This will go into the WCRC pool of locos I have to haul the nearly finished coach rake. Locos include: 31128, 33012, 33207, 47828, 47832, 57601 and 44871 (Black 5). RMweb Gold Popular Post Andy7 Posted September 20, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 20, 2022 (edited) Well long time no update. Been doing loads of tinkering/painting/modelling but just not bothered to upload anything on here. Anyway here is the first update and I will at some point gain the interest to update all the list pictures from the great picture outage. Finally collected all the RES coaches and loco I wanted to make a train from my youth. Remember seeing the RES trains on trips from Cornwall to Manchester and always had a plan to recreate one. 47745 and 9x coach rake. 31601 in Wessex maroon livery nice and dirty was one I always fancied doing and finally got round to it. WCRC 47832 is a nice oddball 47 with lots of bespoke details to be wary of. I used the latest Bachmann 47 as the base model. Really impressive model and I now have 3 of them. It’s not quite finished just needing a multi working socket at each end when I stumble upon some. I have done a couple of 67007 and have a couple more to do (one for me to keep). Really love the livery and especially poignant after recent events. She will be remembered on the layout in 67007. Finally 37884 which was not planned for the layout as I have accurascale 37608 on order. Anyway it’s here now and I love it. More soon. Edited September 20, 2022 by Andy7 Edited to remove a picture of the new stainless exhaust I fitted to my car, ha. 21

RMweb Gold Popular Post Andy7 Posted November 10, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 10, 2022 So having 5 accurascale 37’s I decided a long time back to reduce my Bachmann 37 numbers in preparation. This I did and I didn’t expect to buy any more. Anyway I do like to see what’s available on eBay (keeping my hand in as such), this led me to 2x quick succession purchases of Bachmann sound fitted 37’s. Long story short, they were cheap. I ended up with one only costing me £15 after selling the sound chip. Anyway the below was the £15 BR Blue one. Full repaint as 37219 ‘Jonty Jarvis’ in Colas colours. All the paint and transfers (except 3d nameplates) I had from previous projects so cost was basically nothing. I had purchase, change and heavily modify the noses to be representative but sold the old ones for the same price. The buffers needed work along with the roof horns replacing but these I had sat around from previous projects. All in a super cheap bespoke loco to go on the layout. I love that is has so many details and is also in 2022 looking rather grimy. Driver reshaped and painted up and I had a spare sound chip which I fitted. Also finished my first accurascale MHA. Beautiful wagons that are really well detailed, more on these when they are all complete. Next to finish is my other cheap 37 which is being reworked into 37418 as seen in 2022. This will run with Caroline when she arrives (can’t wait). Anyway hope you enjoy the pictures. 22

Departmental203
Fantastic work on 37219 Andy, the cluttered noses on 219 certainly made it noticeable for me! It seemed that this loco had an affection with Scotland as it would always turn up north of the border whether it would be on a PLPR, UTU or even on engineers! Hence myself and my spotting peers would be like "oh no, not 219 again!" However, times have changed with the advent of the HST powercars and I sense that we're missing this beast of a loco! And also, cracking work on the MHA, the patches and little sprinkles of ballast inside really catches the eye! I think that your picture is telling me "get going with your MHAs son!!" RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted November 12, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 12, 2022 (edited) 37219 is certainly an interesting one (all 37’s are IMO). Enjoyable to do and get all the details incorporated. Get the MHA’s done. Lovely wagons. Looking forward to my rake of them being complete. I am also making bespoke loads for each in the rake. RMweb Gold Popular Post Andy7 Posted November 13, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 13, 2022 I took a pic of most of the RES coaches in the rake. They were all weathered the same way, slap on some panel line paint, wait for it to dry, remove/spread/guide using thinners on various brushes followed by airbrush weathering. Finally some powders at the appropriate places. I didn’t copy any specific coaches but did look at lots of photos to get a good feel for them. They really do look great and the loco sets them off a treat. I did model 47745 just before it went on fire. So it looks well used with plenty of scabby/interesting details on it (paint patches/rust). I did make a talk through tutorial which is on YouTube with these coaches so go check it out if you like.
tjf4375
Superb work Andy - I really enjoyed the video too, thanks for posting that! I do love those Tamiya pin washes - I too have the black and brown, and am amazed by the capillary action! There's something very satisfying about how it runs straight into all the panel lines and detail with just a dab of the brush. I think a lot of that is down to their being oil rather than water based. Really nice work on those coaches, and I picked up some good tips from that video as well 👍 Tim

A keen watcher of your work and 31601 is looking immaculate! It's a set I've been after for a long while, just never got around to making a start on it! I model the South West from 1997-2015 loosely so would fit in a treat! Anyway, love your work, keep it up! Jacob
RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted November 17, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 17, 2022 Thanks Jacob. I have nothing for 31601 to haul but just fancied doing it. I also have another Hornby 31 that I plan on repainting into 31454. When that’s done I either must get some coaches to go with them.

Complained at the time but late-night trips of chasing 43s just is not the same as TnT 37s. great job with the model as well, really captures the look of a loco which has had a quick bodyside clean before going out on a train well.
RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted November 23, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 23, 2022 Off the back of @big jim putting some pics on his thread of some switch carrying wagons I decided to start making my own set. The pair of barriers (RRA) at each end of the main wagon (FZA) were not going to be too hard. They are OCA chassis so I’m using the Bachmann model as the base. The main wagon looked to be trickier. After doing some research I decided to start with an unlikely candidate, a Bachmann JGA! It was a good choice for many reasons. Anyway below is the progress. I have taken apart the JGA, chopped it up, modified the buffers, made the deck and sides from scratch, added lead to the chassis and started to add the details. I have added the strengthening angles to the side members and the handbrake wheels. Next is all the details down the sides and the deck to hold the extra long rail sections (which will be added). I’m very happy with the result so far and can’t wait to get it complete and weathered. Then I will crack on with the barriers. @Phil Mc progress already. 12

RMweb Gold Andy7 Posted December 20, 2022 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted December 20, 2022 Rail carrying wagons are progressing nicely. More soon on these. Yet another item has jumped the queue. Take one butchered 66 (god only knows what someone had done to the big cab end), it was super cheap though. Anyway I’m turning it into a dummy GBRF loco to double head or top and tail. Due to the damage I needed to graft a spare cab end on. Had a chopped up 66 body I had used for another project (class 69) lying around, and voila. Will prime and paint next.
