RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted March 17, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 17, 2020 (edited) I thought I had taken a photo of the other train arriving, never mind. The J50 on the ECS train departs for the carriage sidings. Followed by the Liverpool to Hull express with the V2 on the front. The shed master has been busy getting the disposal crew and the young firemen to shuffle the locos around the loco sidings. After the departure of the Liverpool to Hull express the class 4 2-6-0 which struggled with the train from Manchester where it took over form a poorly Jubilee makes its way to the loco sidings. Followed by an Ivatt tank which had arrived with a train from Barnsley. The same train that has now made its way to the carriage sidings ready for this afternoons "rush hour". The Class 2 is first on the ash pit and under the coaler as it is booked off shed before the 2-6-0 is. In fact the shed master is having to find a more suitable loco for what would have been the Jubilee's return working. And arrange to get the class 4 home. Andrew P
Thanks for the great pics young Clive, as you know, I'm not very good at identifying Steam Engines, so which was the Pannier's and the Bulleids?

jimwal
As Witham member Keith T has invaded Richard I's thread and Clive likes seeing things we have built, I thought you all might like to see my latest effort. It will represent a Midland Bain passenger brake van, Diagram 530A. Several lasted in traffic until the mid/late fifties. From the early fifties a number were converted for departmental use. This one will be done in faded crimson for use in parcels or milk trains but ultimately I'm expecting it will become a riding van for the D&S Cowans crane. The body of the model is cut and shut from a Ratio Midland Bain suburban 4 compartment brake 3rd whilst the roof is a Dart Castings 'Metro' profile resin item. The solebars and headstocks are from copperclad fibreglass strip with Comet models W irons. The strange shape buffers have been reshaped from buffers which I believe came from the remains of a continental loco I've had knocking about for decades! Plenty of detail still to add: springs and hangers, brake gear, lighting gear, steps, roof vents, a vent over the r/h door of each pair plus anything else I may find. One of these vans lasted into the eighties according to a captioned photo in 'British Railway Engineer's Stock - 2' by G Gamble. Jim 8
Dr Gerbil-Fritters
I may get on with some modelling, as my employer is going on lock down from Monday. We are all supposed to be 'working from home' as of today. I've a few things to close out, some disaster mediation to put in place and then we're done. SNAFU until who knows when...
RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted March 18, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 18, 2020 Today I ordered a pair of the new Bachmann class 24/1s, yes I want two, one might become a 25/0. The chap at Peter's Spares asked me very nicely was I panic buying as I wanted two. He then went on to say they have seen an increase in sales over the past couple of days. You are supposed to be working from home, not model making. You cannot wipe your ar$e on a toy loco in lieu of loo paper. 5

Andrew P
AND, Just in case anyone is wondering about the TV, our big one had a buzz, so I unplugged it, took the back off, and plugged it in again. The buzz was coming from what looked like a tube thing, so I unplugged it again and poked it with a big screwdriver. IT WENT BANG, A big flash, and crackle, a large puff of smoke, and the screwdriver went to the other side of the room. Hence the little Portable. 1 6

The start of the session Ready and waiting in the Manchester sidings Across the room all lined up in the Doncaster sidings. At the buffer stops, not as colourful and as bright as a line up of DMUs, but I am sure they are more pleasing to the spotters. An empty stock train waiting for departure. A standard five sitting patiently for the cleaners to sweep through the train and then for the passengers for York to get on board. A shot over looking the newly built diesel servicing area. There is a diesel sitting there, it arrived for driver training but has broken down so is awaiting the fitter from Derby to fix her. She might be there for some time. The state of the old GNR loco sidings at the start of the session. Cor, they do look good. Real tasty in that setting. 2 1

RMweb Premium Clive Mortimore Posted March 20, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted March 20, 2020 (edited) I have done a few more whizzes around the layout with different trains. At one point there was six trains of non-gangway stock in the station, in a few years time the same trains will be all DMUs. The arrival of a Liverpool express and a York semi-fast all the platforms are now full. Trainspotters delight Control have worked out a way of getting the class 4 2-6-0 home, it will be via Bradford where it will working an additional parcels service, it has been a good week for one of the mail order catologue companies. It has replaced the normal class 4 tank engine on this duty. There were still a need for some hurried repairs to a Black Five (replaced the Kaydee coupling with a tension lock one) to take on the rest of the failed Jubilee's diagram. It will be arriving soon from the main shed. Meanwhile I will leave you with a song about witches... Not all our RMweb chums are. As for the station closing, my last session was mainly DMUs, one parcel and one hauled DMU replacement as the station declined until closure. I am now at the other end of the time scale, the day before DMUs become a regular feature at Sheffield Exchange. 8
