Technically more complex than a mechanical one, more expensive to service, but possibly more eco-friendly, if not actually friendly. Also produces partly rotted Composted Grass/Green forage.

Classic worker's possession.

Oh you can tell it is Bank Holiday by the sound of all the lawn mowers in action, so we have joined in.

How many lawn mowers does one man (or woman in this case?) need?

Here's a thought.

Do we as railway modeller's expect everything yesterday?

Reading some peoples post there seems to be some who do. It might be an age thing, but as I get older, if I don't finish what I started before I become too gaga to know what it was I was doing or I say good bye to every one for the last time does it matter?

In the great scheme of things, no.

There again there are many things that people get het up about that don't actually matter to anyone else,

When I'm gone if the large pile of bits for future projects goes straight in the bin I will care not one jot. If my layout is dismantled and burnt I shall not care as I will have had my enjoyment from it.

Bits for the current project not arrived yet? Run out of widgets? Worry not, there are other projects awaiting their turn.

Just keep on enjoying the journey - you may never reach the destination.

I'm working too much to keep up to speed with RMweb but thought I'd see how Sheffield Exchange was doing.

Then I noticed an oddity; all of the most popular posts in this thread seem to be regarding the death's of those close to Clive...... my apologies for highlighting this, it's been a long day!

Some folk clearly expect everything yesterday, or at least now. "I want means I get, and I get it now" very sadly has become part of our society.

Does it matter if you leave unfinished stuff behind? Not at all IMHO, what matters is that you, and everyone else, enjoys their hobby. It's meant to be fun, as in fact you keep reminding us, even if it can get a bit frustrating at times.

Hello Mr Goldfish

I had noticed that myself a few weeks ago. I don't know what it says about me/you lot/us. 🥴

What I find strange is Gibbo has posted the second most amount of drivel, and he was banned a couple of years ago. I am in regular contact with him. He is in good health and is still modelling. I say "modelling" he seems to spend most his time model making with his new partner's daughter making aeroplanes. 👍

As for Map Goldfish saying he is working too much, see you had it easy in the air force, welcome to the real world. 🙃

Totally agree. My advice is don't look at any Comments about Modelmaster issues. It's like a bloody lynch mob. I got a right boll0cking from several persons that shall remain nameless, just because I tried to suggest they got their money back and left the owner to his obviously very chaotic and what sounds a life changing situation. Absolute FB style tribal nonsense and that includes someone that shouldn't be commenting at all.

Since my ears are burning, perhaps you would like to explain, in rational terms, why that someone should relinquish their freedom of speech?

..... and yes, that is a challenge!

Just to remind you, the issue in question is that a person, regardless of their circumstances, who solicits and accepts payment, in the sure and certain knowledge that they are unable to supply the offered goods within a reasonable timescale, is guilty of obtaining money by false pretences .... unless you can prove to the contrary?

Regarding the want, want it now syndrome two other issues I have noticed related to it are (1) the fall off in volunteering in many areas and also (2) many of the younger generations don’t join into the existing Societies. Social changes we will just have to learn to live with I guess in the same way so much is now on-line and/or digital rather than done on paper or by use of analogue systems.

Very true but hardly surprising.  Early in their careers, young people are too busy trying to earn enough of a living to keep their own roof over their heads.  In their spare time, they often want to socialise, hardly an unusual desire.  As for joining societies, the better ones in railway preservation manage fine because they devote the efforts to bringing youngsters in and training them.  Some railway societies seem unwilling to adapt because their elderly members are quite happy as they are, with their little private social club.

I am a member of the RCTS; the varied attitudes of the different branches is obvious from their meetings.  My local branch in Woking is no doubt helped by proximity to London, but in any given year has a variety of speakers from senior rail managers talking about recent industry developments - Chris Green has presented twice in recent years - to locomotive preservation groups to a member presenting their slides of "Steam in the 1960s".  Some branches though seem to nothing but the latter; it's hardly surprising if that doesn't attract new, young members.

Fully concur regarding railway societies; unfortunately it is a bit like banging your head against the wall with some of the old guard. Glad to know at least some parts of RCTS are doing well, exactly the same scenario with the SLS.

The change though is across the board. News item heard today stating the Scouts have 90,000 recruits they can’t help because of a lack of volunteers. The youth theatre group here has no problem recruiting youth for acting but as for parents helping out back stage for productions - zilch. Same in the dancing classes, when my own kids were young enough plenty of parents helped out (that was a period in the 1980s and 1990s) dads with driving  to festivals and making props, mums with costumes and make up. We still know their dance teacher, these days she gets almost no assistance; outcome they no longer do festivals.

I guess it is why the royals are stressing the value of volunteering over today’s B Hol.

Great video!  Saw them live at Colston Hall in 1983, supported by Billy Bragg.

Mind if I leave this here?

I’ve never seen them live unfortunately.  Found out they were playing in Vienna just after they’d been here!

I thought that was Ultravox?

Oh, wait...
