RMweb Premium newbryford Posted October 24, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 24, 2014 So where to start, I couldn't wait to model the scrap yard so set about researching them. This one popped up and I thought it suited my needs perfectly. I can't remember the name and location but is still in use today. Liking the look of the layout. The scrapyard is Crossley Evans at Shipley in West Yorkshire. The pic of the three shunters looks suspiciously like mine............. Cheers, Mick
Axel.Richardson
Thanks Yes that's the one, I thought it was lovely example to model my yard on, hopefully once it finished and has some scrap piles it should look good
Axel.Richardson
A little progress has been made over the last few days, looks a little rough ATM. I've decided to add a bridge over the yard to break it up a bit. This is one I had laying about just to give a idea. This bridge will lead up to the rear of the layout and into a raised industrial area over the rear mainline. Currently got a brewery there but may change that. Next to this is the fuelling point, it will comprise of storage tanks and the pumps. Here is the fuelling area and bridge from a different angle, the wall on the right will be a retaining wall up to the bridge, this will be brick as well as the bridge supports. I'm going to use one of these bridge designs, probably the first as it suits the industrial area better in my opinion Another addition will be a small shed over the two paved sidings, again this shed is just a mock up item but will be of a smiler design Lastly I've started the large paved area where the TMD shed is going, I run out of filler in this picture That's all for now, hopefully it gives you a idea of what I'm trying to create. Axel.Richardson
Looks superb so far, look forward to seeing more Reece Thank you Reece Hi guys, a little update for you I've been plodding on very slowly resonantly, other commitments have slowed my progress down to one or two hours a week. However I have started making some retaining walls using wills kits and plasticard, I don't like card or printed paper, so refuse to use it, it would be cheaper I suppose :/ I've gone for stone over brick for this section, to make it look older than the other sections on the layout. As you can see I've also finished the concrete base and yard for the shed, needs fine tidying up in areas. The retaining wall will continue left and there will be a old stone road bridge at 80 degree crossing the line heading back towards the centre well. This is the next thing I need to construct. Behind the retaining wall will be covered and a edge of town scene will be constructed on a removable base. Now looking back in the opposite direction the little retaining wall has been covered in brick plasticard, still in early stages as I need to trim to the desired hight. I've got to build up the ground behind raising up to the bridge level in the distance. Another job I've done is finish building the loco shed. I've got a few rough edges to tidy up but it has finally got a roof. As you can see it a bit of a cobble together of Peco loco shed and the roof off a Hornby one, don't know if I like it but It different and that's what I'm after. The shed is placed in position, it needs to be set into the base so the gap around the bottom isn't visible. Looking at it it needs a lot of detail added so hopefully with a few ladders and handrails etc I can get away with it otherwise it will get replaced
