One minute into this awesome sixties VT at Gushetfaulds FLT is a Seddon of some parentage.

Being Seddon, I assume wink.gif

Nice find Chard, The Seddon is I think the 13-4 model of 1965. A 13ton 4 wheel unit with Motor Panels cab, a few bought about that time but they found somthing bigger needed so later in the year they purchaced the Seddon 21 ton models with the Pennine cab.

In the early days of Freightliner, a number of differing units were tried by BR but the Seddon found favour. When Freightliners Limited was formed the most popular units were Guy and Seddon and the foreign invasion started with Volvos.

This arrived a week ago from Base Toys. They have gone the easy way and produced a parcels van using the same body shell as the personnel carrier. Aparently it didn't warrent a complete new body moulding. However looking at the front part, not a lot needs doing to make a decent model of it.

The rear is totaly wrong with the cupboard doors, should be roller shutters. The overhang behind the back axle needs shortening. A picture of the real thing may help.

I had a go at the parcel van with a razor saw this morning. Reduced the wheelbase by 5mm by moving the front axle back a hole. Then took 10mm out of the body and it looks about right.

A couple of my CF photos. A short minibus with 2 bench seats in the back and a CFL engineers van with seats and tool space just like the one at, Taunton was it ? after withdrawl at Midland Railway Centre.

Has this appeared on this thread before?

A lovely shot which I don't recollect seeing before- I wonder where it was taken? The crane will be available next year from Corgi, I note from the John Ayrey site:-

That trailer in the background is one of those intended to carry things like large sheets of plate glass, isn't it?

Looking forward to the crane from Corgi.

Yes I think the trailer is a glass float. Now I don't know the place but suspect it may be posed in Luton, because the Bedford TK was a Bedford demonstrator along with the Tasker trailer. A smaller tractor unit than were bought by BR, possibly a 6ton version that they didn't buy, instead going for the similar Ford D300 model.

Looks like a glass float but with some supplementary woodwork (compared with the WR version that is) - I wonder if it was on some sort of specialised working?

Incidentally talking of Bedford CFs I had one on my little fleet of staff minibuses at one time and it was an atrocious thing that was forever failing with some defect or another, good job it wasn't in BR livery  . Admittedly my minibus drivers weren't some of the kindest in the world when it came to vehicle treatment and London traffic didn't help one bit but the Transits stood up to the job far better and were much nicer to drive in my experience of the two types.

Hi,

Im in the middle of finally getting my road rail Rerailing BRUFF together, its early days yet, and only the cab and box body are done, although not completed.

I was going to use a chassis from either, base, corgi etc, having now disected a chassis, ive decided to make one from scratch,,,,,another couple of weeks for that!

Also included below, is a Net Rail Unimog, which I didnt make, but would make a good basis for a BRUFF chassis, albeit expensive!

Cheers

Steve,

I took a series of photgraphs of the sides and ends, and them scaled them down in a word document to 1/76, I will also then use these photos to make up details in transfers to use on the completed model, also having been an "official" BRUFF driver in BR days, some of its down to memory!.

Then, I need to work out how I can motorise it......

I also have one onging in "N" too, but thats a bit of a way off yet.

Cheers

Hi Ringo,

There was an article in RM some years back about how to scratchbuild and motorise a Bruff, I'll see if i can find it and PM it to you if it's any help.

The below website may help. There is a diagram which should help with the dimensions, in son track plant page 132/3. The painting file will give details for the lettering, pages 26-9. I can't remember how I came by it, was it sombody on here ?

Looking good so far, I look forward to seeing it completed. Another one on my to do list.

The Airfix kit of the 4x4 Bedford army lorry may help with chassis parts.

If you are short of any particular views, I have loads of photos.

Nice pics these. The Guy and container crane is later than 1968, the wagon is a VBA or VAA with Tops code so it's late 70's I'd guess, maybe nearer '78?

Very interesting Rangers ! Some more good finds jcb.

Going back to the discussion a few pages ago about the Atkinson at Malton. The Guy Big J4 tractor unit has BR livery. jcb3c's reference to 1968 is the age of the vehicle (F reg.) but in November 1968 Freightliners Limited was created followed in January 1969 by National Carriers.

So is this another case of a NCL vehicle in BR livery some years after BR ceased to carry goods by road ?

Over to you guys !

To further muddy the waters... The box is not an ISO one, but one of the original Freightliner bottom-lift ones. I thought these had gone by the mid-1970s.

I would suggest that the van could have appeared like that from about 1974- the application of TOPS coding had already started by then on the WR, and this van would probably have originally come from the Western on the original ABN service from Bristol to Glasgow.

The crane at Elgin survived in use into fairly recent times, largely for transhipping containers for various MoD establishments in the area.

The photo has 1968 in the caption but there is a rear view on the same thread which shows the trailer having LONG VEHICLE plates which came in in the early 70's ( anyone know exactly when ?) but it has BR markings , it also looks like a tri axle trailer, as you say another mystery like the Malton Atkinson.

Actually reading caption it says 1977 on rear view so answered my own question! and it also says Elgin major freight terminal for whisky, oil and containers so maybe it is some kind of contract work.

This is the kind of small container depot I've seen modelled and thought looked very unrealistic as its so small !
