There's a couple of interesting vehicles in this photo of what I believe is Worcester:-

http://erniesunknownrailwaylocations.

The long van trailer is presumably for the large amount of parcels from one of the catalogue operators (was it Kays?) based around Worcester.

The 'Railfreight' branded FG is a bit odd- I would have thought it would be either 'Rail Express Parcels' or 'NCL' by this point.

I had seen this picture and wondered where it was. Not dated but I would think late 60s. Both branded Railfreight so before 1969 takeover by NCL. Yes you could be right about the larger trailer for mail order. I have a shot from a magazine of a line up in 1966 of 8 of this type of van, all new, coupled to Scammel Townsmen, at Worcester. I would guess that the picture shows the area where the Road Motor maintainence was done.

The Morris FG is one of a number bought by the western about 1960, so could be put out to grass by then, along with the trailer in it's older livery !

The buildings to the left are what used to be the old Worcester works of the GWR- the sort of place that often ended up as maintenance facilities for road vehicles.

Ah, the only ones I've bought are Springside, took one look and put back in box ! :D

I've been working on and (more) off on one of their Rover 2200 models since they came out and I'm still not entirely satisfied with it yet, but it's getting close!

The Parker kits are much easier and actually come in the right shape to start with!

Just wondering... does anyone know anything about the DODGE COMMANDO!!! I saw at Reading today? Unfortunately I couldn;t get a picture but I almost fell off my chair when I saw it!

Hi Morris

Do you mean a railway one ? What livery ? Very thin on the ground these days, many went on to be mobile homes from BR personnel carriers, but not too many about now.

Postman brought this this week, the latest from Oxford Diecast, a 1966 registered Morris J2 minibus in the green engineers livery. A Western Region example.

Parked behind is 'one I made earlier'

Yes, I saw a BR yellow Dodge Commando (the one before the full length plastic grill facelift) crewbus in the upper(!?!) Reading yard, i.e. the first one you get to when you are travelling from Basingstoke, it appeared to be in railway use as it was parked in the middle of the yard there so I can only assume it still is, many people on my train thought I was a luney I as muttered to myself "look its a Commando those disppeared years ago etc!"

Hi Morris

As soon as you said where you saw it the penny dropped !

Sounds like one of the breakdown rerailing vans which remain in use with the various train operating companies. Great Western would it be at Reading ? I know of a few about with DB ex EWS and also some Leyland DAF 45s.

I don't know that it's still in use - at least, not as a mobile vehicle - it hasn't changed position as far as I can remember, in the three and a half years that I've been passing through Reading regularly.

Think you can see the Reading Commando on google earth , next to a blue container.

Is this Bedford TK SPM 562X a BR one or a body swap ?

post-3430-127305715083_thumb.jpg

Newer German and Japanesepost-3430-127305721143_thumb.jpg

Hi jcb3c

The Bedford TK is 'fake' the flat roof body is newer than the chassis, there were no TKs with that body, PM registration, Surrey ? not used by BR. Very tidy job though.

Must have a look at Google Earth.

What make is the Jap. open lorry ? Not seen one of them.

Japanese Network Rail truck is an Isuzu 'Forward' 7.5 tonner .

Lonely Commando? -

That Commando looks to be a rerailing version on the LWB chassis from the roof vents.

The latest from my workbench, a 1956 Ford Thames ET6, 2ton parcel van of the Southern Region. From a very nice kit from Frank Waller (RTI)

Lovely pic of a Karrier Gamecock personnel carrier

http://ccmv.fotopic.net/p64721254.html

Also some of Merfyns pics on the CCMV site , looks like the BR road vehicles were in as bad a state as the trains !

We knew how to knock them about and the P Way were even worse !

The Gamecock is superb, nothing like those on the other regions, I feel a model of that one coming.

Was the Karrier a Scottish region only model ? Looks similar to the GPO trucks of the period .

http://www.britishtelephones.com/vehicles/specialist/073.htm

I have pictures of the Karrier Gamecocks of the Western and Midland Region, they are similar but not identical to each other, very much like the Bedford TKs that replaced them.

The Scotish seemed different to them, KD6001Sc was almost a copy of a GPO version, but the Penman KD6004 is much more fancy than any of them.

KD6001 from B R Magazine, I hope no copyright problem as they stopped publishing in 1963 !

Good pic, very like the GPO.The GPO truck seems to have been very common in its time , and with other utilities, its a surprise Matchbox / dinky didn't make a model of it . Budgie had a horrendous attempt.

The RTI Fordson Thames ET6 looks a lot better the the Pocketbond one which has the disadvantage of being an Austin K4 cab with a Fordson bonnet stuck on !

Unsusual (to me ) Bedford TK dropside tilt.(posted with owners permission)

Distant glimpse of shiny Commer

Hi jcb 3c

You keep finding these classics. On the original could you read the fleet number ? It looks like Eastern region to me. A 7.5 ton chassis, very rare, I think I have only ever seen 1 similar in a book, but that was a flatbed.

The Commer BF fairly common by comparison.

You noticed the problem with the Pocketbond too, and the wheelbase is too long.

John Ayrey website has pictures of the forthcoming BMC FG personnel carriers by Base Toys, just a few adjustments to the lettering and they are out soon. I don't think you will be disapointed.

Cheers Merfyn.

Hope this is the right place for these pics? Three show my attempt to create my fathers two lorries he drove, ie..Austin k2/4 and the TK that jcb posted earlier.

Have a few others if they may be of interest? The Trader tipper was also based at Hitchin and driven by our neibour the same time as the TK.
