expoEM 2010 bracknell 15-16 May 2010

Besides if I suggested a weekend in Bracknell to my missus, I suspect the idea would be greeted with something of a lukewarm reception.

Shopping in nearby Windsor ?

The place couldn't be easier to find from the M4 - follow signs to the M3 along the A329(M) You really can't miss the sports centre. I have got lost going to far more obscure places .... Bletchley ,for example. :D

Everybody got lost going to Bletchley - I missed very few expo EMs at Bletchley and we seemed to go a different route in and out every time tongue.gif

The New Leisure Centre at Bletchley looks very nice; additional car park as wellrolleyes.gif

Interesting observation this Gee Vee!

I have watched the developments at Bletchely Leisure Centre with interest. Not only have I got the plans but even had one of my spies visit before the official opening to check out the main hall!

I'm sure it would make a fine venue for a show but not for expoEM.....The venue is too small for expo.

I take it them that there will be no return to Bletchley then?

I will be at Expo this year on the Wild Swan stand, I must admit the venue at Bracknell is much better than Bletchley anyway which always used to leave me with a bad headache. Also the distance between Railex in Aylesbury and Expo in Bletchley is better for both shows anyway.

Thanks for that Gee Vee, should hopefully put to rest permenantly any idea of returning there then!!

going by last year's show - Bracknell is getting that way as well. I'm also hoping the weather will be cold so the temperature in the hall stays below Gas Mark 4.

We certainly squeezed a lot in last year and will do so again this year. :D Our policy of only advertising in the specialist press does mean we tend only to get genuine modellers visiting at the expense of the "great unwashed" and as such means we can perhaps do more in any given space. We seek quality visitors as well as quality trade and layouts!!! That said we will let in all RM Webbers :P :D

we are looking at the possibility of expansion next year (and I'm not talking about expansion across track joints in warm weather). But thats all into the future.....For now I'm more interested in you all attending this year and letting me have your feedback....

For me it's a three hour trek each way, but very well worth it.

Well I shall have to be there this year, to keep the layout company  .

Checking 'Auto-Route' it tell's me I will be about 6 hours each-way.... :O

Which may account for why I don't get there very often these days -

I use to live in Malvern, most places were reasonably accessible then.

  • 2 weeks later...

Having spent the weekend prepping two new locos (Ivatt Mucky Duck and an 8F) for the layout Im now looking forward to be able to run them properly on the layout at Expo EM smile.gif .

A show well worth the visit.

I'm in the process of converting a Mucky Duck also Andy, so I will be interested in a look and a chat about yours. I'll probably be along Saturday morning before the Cup Final...

There will be another few running on Stainmore Summit, and I'll be demonstrating conversions too, so should be plenty of brains(?!) to pick!

As I'll be in London this weekend, I'll be visiting the exhibition, where I am sure I'll both be inspired and run into some old chums. Paradoxically, given that the show is dedicated to railways, I find that - due to "planned engineering works" I must complete part of my journey by car (provided thanks to a fellow RMWebber). Am I alone in appreciating the irony of this?

I'm quite looking forward to the show, will pick up some odds and ends and get fired up for my next building project...

Expo EM, always worth a visit.

And Bletchley, just thinking about the catering brings a bad taste into my mouth, the grub at Bracknell is a whole lot better.

See you Sunday.

CAR PARKING:

The leisure centre offers free parking but it can get quite conjested particularly on Saturday late morning/early afternoon - all those young mums taking the kids swimming....!

Attached is a map show the over flow car park. It is at the offices of Cadance Ltd on the other side of the round a bout to the Centre and only a two minute walk.

We will have a steward directing cars as necessary but to be for armed.......

PS. never attached a file to RM Web before - fingers crossed!!

PPS. Tim V - track me down donBracknell_overflow.pdf Sunday - wanna talk to you re 2011

Graeme, your PDF worked for me (good to know in advance of plan B) - looks like a smashing year and just 15 miles away too which is a bonus! Just need to decide on Sat AM which could be rushed due to family stuff later in the day or Sunday PM with most likely a hangover....

So shall we suggest an RMWeb meet up at 1pm? I'll be there on the Saturday as will David (Pannier Tank). How about just outside the entrance to the exhibition hall? From memory of one visit last year there's some room at that point.

I should imagine I will have to give that a miss as I'm either with the layout or getting nosh.....

Penlan - both me & the layout.

So we'd better give you a mass visit, then. :)

Same with me (busy??) on the demo stand or noshing. Call and natter we are good at that.

How reassuring that an RMWeb meet has been suggested! I was beginning to think that such gatherings had gone out of fashion. FWIW I'm there both days so if anyone wants a conclave on the Sunday ....

Saturday's meet roster:

ChrisF

Pannier Tank (David)

Flymo

Penlan (on his way to lunch)

David Bigcheeseplant (ditto)

And a couple of others Chrisf knows.

And me

I was too busy gassing to keep better records.

The show? Very good - well up to the expected standard. However the aisles were noticably narrower and hence the crush more noticable. Pix later.

If you're going look at the size of the pocket calculator that Chris (HighLevelKits) uses. He probably needs that size pockets to keep all the money in that he was taking - his trade looked (deservedly) brisk.
