I believe they used a rocket or jet assisted take off to lift enough fuel for a 10 or 12 hour sortie . Heroes all . The Mk3 Shacks (with the tricycle/not tailwheel undercarriage) had a Viper turbojet installed in the rear of each of the outer Griffon nacelles. Fine as long as BOTH worked, nasty yaw if one went out! - Scott 5 1 3

RMweb Premium Popular Post St Enodoc Posted March 31, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 31, 2023 The weather today was benign again, so I gapped and sprayed hand points H and J before lunch and let them dry. This afternoon I laid them and also 45A points, an old B6L salvaged from the old St Enodoc layout. In its previous location, 45A had no tails on the straight road after the crossing, so I've laid some copperclad sleepers to support some short lengths of rail that will connect it to 45B points. I also extended the track in Platform 1 a bit, so that I'll have plenty to play with when adjusting the position of 45B. Tomorrow we have our monthly BRMA meeting, hosted by Charles @RudderC, which means I won't get back to these until Sunday. If all goes well then, I hope to lay 45B points and the rest of the track for Platform 1, the Loop and possibly Carriage Siding 9. 35 3

I was instantly taken back to the late Ken Payne’s Tyling inspirational layout - 1957 ! Crikey, that's an unexpected compliment! Tyling and its later companion Castle Combe was one of my favourite layouts in the RM when I was growing up, so there must be some subconscious influence going on. Anyway, curved track's much easier to lay than straight - just getting those four points along the loop in line was hard work. Thanks. 8 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post St Enodoc Posted April 2, 2023 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 2, 2023 I made more good progress today. First, I laid 45B points to complete the crossover between Platform 1 and the Loop. I soldered the rails to the copperclad sleepers between the two points but haven't gapped them yet. I'll do that next weekend when the glue's set completely, to avoid copper particles getting stuck to it as much as anything else. Next, I laid the plain track for Platform 1, the Loop and Carriage Siding 9. Temporarily, these go right to the end of the baseboard, until I can confirm exactly how much I can cut them back to avoid ending up with one or more carriage sidings being just an inch or so too short for an extra coach. I'll also cut the platform roads back enough for the covered platform behind the stop blocks. This won't be installed until much later, so I'll need to calculate carefully guess how far back the crossover between Platforms 2 and 3 should be. Photos of Newquay show this as leaving only just enough room on Platform 2 for a large passenger loco to fit between 50B points and the stop blocks. Again, I'll also take into account the length of the longest trains that will use the two platforms (nine coaches plus two 4-6-0s). This shows the three points springing off the Loop, each of which is followed by another leading to two carriage sidings. Those three points, the two for the crossover and one more for the goods yard are the only ones left to build. Finally, a view towards the temporary Baz's Buffers at the end of the board. If you have a good memory and pay attention to detail, you'll have spotted that CS 9 is the odd-man-out or singleton, not CS 7 as previously intended. This is because there isn't enough room for another point on CS 9 before it curves round parallel to the Loop. I could have extended CS 2 to the end of the board too, but ran out of time. I'll do that next weekend, when I also plan to start fitting the point motors and wiring up. 32
