Popular Post blueeighties
Morning all. I have been looking for a layout for quite some time. A) because I fancied something to run my favourite locos on, and B) I wanted something to photograph completed customer commissions on rather than the usual cold clinical white bench and background. I met Ian Harper of Haymarket Cross fame last Year, and it came up in conversation that the layout was going up for sale. Fast forward 12 months and I have made the purchase! I'm sure a lot of you will know Haymarket...it's a very nice steam/diesel transition era depot layout. Perfect for displaying lots of locos! Being set in Scarborough, the buildings are distinctly North East, so most of my job has been done. I plan to make a few changes to some of the infrastructure, the turntable has been removed, but again this is ideal, it will fit in with the general dilapidated state of yards and depots in the early/mid eighties. The layout will require a partial rewire as I didn't keep the full (very clever) automated dcc system, I prefer switches and led indicators for points and signals, and the usual dcc control for locos. Again, luckily, Ian has kept the original control panel, so with a bit of rewiring and soldering, I will have it back up and running soon. At some point when I have made all of the changes and it's fully presentable, it may appear on the exhibition circuit again. In the meantime, a few pictures to show you the flavour of where we are going with this. Hope you like! 002 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 005 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 007 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 010 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 014 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 017 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 019 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 025 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 028 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 029 by rothburyuk, on Flickr
jamie.dunn
Hi Lee , it's great to see that the layout has gone to a good home and will be used ( albeit slightly differently ) I was part of the operating team for the past year. Jaggzuk
Hi Lee Some really inspiring work shown on your topic here. The quality and shear volume of your work has created quite a good resource and the photograph you take really show the detail off well. It is seeing your recent photos of Haymarket Cross, your new layout, that I noticed quite a few locos had drivers in particular 20118 and so may I ask where you get your figures from? I am after drives for some diesel loco I am detailing up. It turns out my two young boys have a very good knack for telling me which end is the front of locos because there is a driver in the cab! Any help much appreciated. Regards Paul

Popular Post blueeighties
Righty then. After a day of heaving and straining, the full layout is up in the loft. Levelled, and secure. Beofre the task of re wiring starts, a very enjoyable afternoon photographing some of my stock, and getting a feel for the layout. 077 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 076 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 073 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 071 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 069 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 065 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 061 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 058 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 056 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 052 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 051 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 048 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 048 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 045 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 043 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 041 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 037 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 036 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 034 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 032 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 031 by rothburyuk, on Flickr

blueeighties
A couple of completed projects to start the week. First up 50050. Full repaint into NSE livery, and lots of Shawplan bits. The new roof radiator grill and fan makes a huge difference. Laserglaze, and new cab steps also fitted. 038 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 035 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 030 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 027 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 022 by rothburyuk, on Flickr The next 2, 26025 has been on the bench before. This time around sound and laserglaze has been fitted. 47637 is another repaint, lightly weathered, and sound fitted. The customer has decided he dosen't want this pair, so I think they are going to find their way onto the new layout 018 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 012 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 009 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 005 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 002 by rothburyuk, on Flickr

blueeighties
More work on the big 37's. A tricky job is removing the rather chunky Heljan radiator fan roof panel...the Shawplan version is to absolute scale, and as well as a new fan, comes with a very nice new roof panel. Much filing, sanding and filling.... 003 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 006 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 37081 also gets the RSH cant rail grille divider bars added.... 007 by rothburyuk, on Flickr And new bottom cab edge beading after removing the old skirts. 009 by rothburyuk, on Flickr

blueeighties
Investigation of an ill running Hornby 56 led me to discover my first occurrence of 4mm wheelflats! No idea what the previous owner was thinking..... A complete new wheelset was required. 007 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 005 by rothburyuk, on Flickr Anyway, whilst I was on, a full stripdown and service ensued. 014 by rothburyuk, on Flickr Hornby didn't mess about with the engineering on these. 006 by rothburyuk, on Flickr 003 by rothburyuk, on Flickr I also managed to get a 28x40 Alan Butcher squeezed in. Guest eddie reffin
Brilliant work as usual Lee. What brand of cantrail stripe do you use please? From the looks of it, there is no carrier film or have you cut it all off?
RBE
Good god Lee those wheels are bad. I rememberas a teen I actually filed some flats onto the tread of a mk3 coach to replicate the flats you sometimes heard on hsts where a lock up had occured. Never anything like that 56 though. Anyway as always the resprays look spot on!!
