  1. Completely ruins the model? Really? Nothing like a bit of hyperbole to make a point ;-)
  2. Re: Cavalex 91, let’s not forget it is still a niche name, unknown to many modellers. I’d suggest that many of those buying the Hornby 91 won’t have been in the market for the Cavalex one as it simply won’t have been on their radar.
  3. Now £199 at Kernow. http://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/p/54988/32-642Z-Bachmann-Class-438-4-TC-Unit-number-8022-BR-Blue---Grey
  4. I’ve just commissioned my own railtour liveried 40057, in accurate shiny finish too!
  5. Good grief. Does it really matter? Nobody else is going to notice. Just a ridiculously over the top critique of a decent model. If you want perfection by a 1:1 scale model....
  6. Does anyone know what years roughly this livery would have adorned these wagons.
  7. Hi Ryde, Thanks for your reply. I think you have got hold of the wrong end of the stick. Cav and I have had a very civil back and forth by email, no stomping or any other kind of stropping going on ;-) And thanks for your tip, now I know how Cavalex work I shall certainly do that. The issue was I had no idea that the set up was like it is. Finally, again just to avoid confusion, I’ve got plenty of pre-orders in at shops and manufacturers across the land for the things I *really* want, and the PGAs weren’t on that list. When I get my “splurge” money I buy the things that otherwise would not make it to the top of the “buy it” list. I’m sure there are plenty of people on here who have a fund like that that avoids the wife’s (or husband’s!) scrutiny.....! Cheers mate.
  8. Cav, I think you misunderstand. I have not criticised Cavalex on here, and I apologise if you feel like I have. I thought the feedback (that you asked for) was pretty neutral in its tone. The closest to a criticism I think I’ve made on here is about your website not being easy to use, though that could be because I was looking on my phone and not a PC. As I said at the end, the wagon I was after looks excellent. I’ll not be buying any PGAs now as the event I need them for will have passed by the time they arrive, but I’ve just placed an order with Rails for the 3 pack of your BBA they have on pre-order. In terms of the quality of your product, when I eventually manage to lay my hands on some I am sure I will be blown away ;-) Finally, the Hattons website pulls up all previous models (including discontinued ones) for the previous 10 years or so. It is a really useful reference tool but also a bit scary when you look at prices even a few years ago!
  9. Hi, Thanks for your prompt response. I subsequently discovered that Rails are selling a pre-order of a three pack of the Railfreight ones so placed an order last night. However, please can I enquire as to what the individual cost is for the wagon direct from you ? Jake
  10. Yeah, seems that is the case. It’s because it is showing on the Cavalex website as sold out I made the assumption that it was from the first run, didn’t expect a run which has yet to arrive (the second run) to be sold out too.
  11. As someone who has just had their first (unsuccessful) attempt at purchasing Cavalex products I think that the message re: your business model could possibly be better promoted, as I’m one of those people who weren’t aware of the fact you only do very small runs, and that you can only buy direct by pre-order. I’m by no means a hermit (I subscribe to Hornby Magazine and Rail Express for model railway info) and I missed that critical information. I’m the kind of person who comes into a sizeable amount of disposable income every now and then and go on a spending spree (I’ve spent about £350 with Accurascale in the last 2 weeks) and was going to do the same with some Cavalex product only to find there is none in stock anywhere. However, I appreciate that your business model doesn’t allow you to order extra stock over and above pre-orders. Perhaps you could include the crowd funding element of your business model in your name to make it explicit, or be more forthright in press releases about your “miss it and miss out” approach so that people know there are no second chances on a particular run?
  12. Where can these be ordered from? C & M Models, Trains4U, etc, as with the PGAs? I’ve learnt today that you can only ever pre-order on the Cavalex site and obviously the pre-order has finished there. Cheers.
  13. Ah, the grey stripe ones are on the Cavalex website as sold out so I presumed that was the FIRST batch. It’s all rather confusing......
  14. Just had to get my order refunded from C & M, they aren’t in stock after all. Feels like it’s impossible to just go out and buy some of these wagons! If anyone anywhere can point me in the direction of a source of the grey stripe redland wagons I will be VERY grateful!
  15. Starting with some good news, it seems C and M Models in Carlisle have some of the first run in stock, so I’ve ordered from them. http://cmmodels.7.ekm.shop/cavalex-pga012or1-pga-original-redland-livery-grey-stripe-ladderswalkways-no-protection-pane-13320-p.asp To answer your questions, in terms of Accurascale there are a number of reasons why I’ve spent a small fortune with them. Firstly I like the use of fine metal parts (eg the walkways on the PCAs), I like the ability to buy sets of 3/5 wagons with individual numbers, I like the fact that there are multiple variations of these sets so that you can have a large rake of differently numbered and marked wagons, I like the fact that pretty much everything is in stock so that each month I can buy a different set without having to decide in advance to commit to large expenditure because otherwise I’ll miss out, and finally and perhaps most importantly (having had my fingers burnt by the collapse of Pledge Music) I don’t have to pledge money up front which could be lost in a worse case scenario (though I must admit I have chosen to do so for the Accurascale tipplers as all my experiences of dealing with them have left me highly satisfied and impressed). The PGAs from Cavalex we’re going to be my first purchase of the brand and it’s proven to be quite difficult to place an order for what I wanted but I’ve got there in the end, albeit through a model shop (I prefer to buy direct from small manufacturers due to the margins being better for them). However, what I’ve seen of the PGAs leads me to believe they are an excellent model. Cheers, Jake
  16. The first batch is sold out? Wow, didn’t expect that. Are they definitely doing this version with the grey stripe as it’s the only one I want. Hope so..... https://www.cavalexmodels.com/products/blt0g3gyl456ykv38nblngui00lxhp
  17. Apologies if this has been mentioned, haven’t got time to read through the full thread. I’ve been trying to order some of these wagons tonight on the Cavalex website and it seems impossible to do. I’ve then gone to other stockists and I can’t place an order with any of them either. I can’t for a moment imagine they have all sold out (the superior Accurascale have all their items in stock) so what’s going on?
  18. I was thinking about this, and it’s a shame they didn’t do a two loco royal train pack with 216 as per the Caernarvon visit. I reckon it would have been popular. in terms of regional editions, I think they absolutely should. The disc headcode moulding hasn’t been used much for B.R. blue era 40s and there is so much potential, eg 40106, 40057 in railtour livery, weathered 40025 as per Plymouth run, flush nose 40044, etc etc
  19. Can anyone confirm that the Bachmann platforms are the correct height for the GCR staircase to line up level with the road on the bridge? My current platforms are not high enough.
  20. I’ve got a shop weathered and buffer beam detailed (with ploughs) Bachmann 47. Even before I start thinking about couplings the thing can’t take points or corners as the pipe work on the buffer beam sits right against the ploughs and stops the bogies turning. How do people get around this?
  21. I’ve checked all the TTS threads and can’t see one that covers this. Fitted a TTS to my 31268 which doesn’t have chassis rot! I upgraded the speaker too and took out the fan which was stiff. Upon firing up the loco sounds great, and once cv 150, 151, and 152 were amended it seemed to run really well.......until the loco lost all engine sound and stopped moving when I operated the horn function. The loco automatically restarts moving back up to the preset speed once the horn is toggled off again but with no engine sound. This is quickly rectified by toggling CV1 off and on again. The loco then started doing it even without any other sound being operated, literally every 30cm or so. It’s the same on my rolling road. The loco roof is noticeably hot by this point. I tried the chip in my 8 pin Bachmann 40 and it did the same. Is this a known issue or have I got a faulty chip? Ps im running a basic NCE Powercab set up.
  22. Well, the prototype for their new 24 was at the GCR.
