  1. Ran my first set last night. Two issues that I can’t seem to get on top of: - one coach’s lights are so intermittent. The wipers are touching the wheels, but may be covered in a non conductive paint? To be checked more - with two NDMs, they are clearly not speed matched or start at the same time, but more oddly, the leading one (I have only tried in one direction) has a leading bogie wheel set that lifts in certain places on the layout. I’ve relaid one piece of track that has always been a little troublesome, but it looks like the wheel set is marginally higher than it’s partner in the bogie?!
  2. as you say, the acceptable level of risk is a personal thing. That applies to all we do as individuals. you go on to say that they do not fill you with confidence that they are taking a ‘suitably conservatives’ view on safety. That is simply projecting your risk appetite. to project my own view of risk appetite - I think that the organisers are doing precisely the right thing, which is to match the standard required by the SECC - after all they are the experts on putting in events of this scale, and much larger - eg COP 26 as recently as November.
  3. Can’t wait. Last pre-pandemic show for me, will be the first now that we’re having to live with the virus
  4. Not sure if this has been mentioned, but the 92s now seem to be available at Rails of Sheffield. I think I committed enough at the end of the year for me to add any, but may be of interest to others
  5. Does anyone know which are the Tier 1 retailers to order from? The link posted by @Andy Y at Kernow seems to be dead, so presumably they’ve sold out of their allocation
  6. Personally I’d prefer a body for the prototype HST (or maybe only cab ends needed to replace the Hornby ones?).
  7. I’m not a fan of duplication when a prototype has already been modelled well, and I have no affiliation with any manufacturer, but… from a purely commercial perspective, if I was in Hornby’s situation on the Terrier, I’d probably be a little peeved if I’d bought the tools / rights etc to a model from Dapol (no matter how long ago), and then Dapol work with someone else to produce a better one. Such sell and rebuild activity happens all the time in business, and I’m sure that the purchase was so long ago that it shouldn’t matter, but I understand why it did. That doesn’t excuse crowding out of other players on models that Hornby previously showed no interest in upgrading (eg the 91), but then that is market forces at work - competition produces better results for customers (us!). Having said all that, and also from a purely commercial perspective, I don’t understand why Hornby haven’t gone toe-to-toe on the staple traction such as 37, 47, 66. taking the 47 as an example, (and for a moment forgetting the batch nature of production), there were 512 of them - even dripping in 1 per month gives a release a month for the next 42 years!! And that’s before we get to multiple liveries. Of course the tooling needs to be clever enough to cater for most of the many differences between them. And rebuilds such as the 57 give more opportunity. That becomes a steady revenue stream and dedicated factory lines. And we’ve seen that the market can sustain multiples of big classes. The effort becomes in the research, but surely better than producing a prototype of which there was only one / two examples / liveries and having to make up additional releases with fictitious liveries to get an appropriate return?
  8. Is that model of Ravel available on the website? edit: ignore - I see it’s a Rails special!
  9. Looking at a few photos, could it be that the roof above the cab is black, and the roof above the body side is the same body side blue? As shown here (not my photo): https://www.flickriver.com/photos/18317144@N04/50453492607/ The whole roof seems to weather to a similar colour in other photos (which ironically looks almost like the original RfD blue), eg (also not my photo)
  10. Only just got the email and can’t seem to order any which is disappointing
  11. Out of associated interest, is the ‘track recording’ version that is being done authentic in any way?
  12. Email from Hornby yesterday confirming limited to 500
  13. These look amazing. I know you’ve said that fit and finish will be improved, so please take this in the spirit intended - the two things that stick out on first look are that the front cab handrail looks somewhat chunky, and the Chunnel polos don’t look etched like the real things, and being part of the body, will be difficult to replace with etched versions.
  14. Having visited a few museums with the kids this summer, this is the real challenge. Something that could be wonderful often needs the ‘people’ who know what they are doing to make it interesting and interactive. At first, they’re there. Later, the place for excitement becomes a room with some random objects around it that nobody quite understands what to do with (least if all the uninformed parent like me!), and we wander on through having not been captured as we should have been.
  15. Really?? When I saw the Intercity coach, I thought amazing! But I model OO so N has the upper hand there! really glad to see Bachmann re releasing older Scenecraft models. Here’s hoping for the low relief tenement again at some point.
  16. Hi @m0rris, I have a couple of your shell sets in OO and just wanted wondered when you might have the all important ‘ancillary’ bits and bobs available such as bogie frames, under frame detail or windows? Cheers
  17. Really? It’s in the new mould catalogue range and has all the detailing from the updated mould?
  18. At first I couldn’t work out whether there was a rain strip error, or just an orange line issue. Seems there’s both. this is, once again, so close to being a great model, I hope it’s not rushed from here
  19. Totally off topic but so did I - on the M6 while overtaking a lorry. Managed to bend and tie the thing down and, passing Warrington, picked up a spare from the treasure trove near the station!
  20. presumably 6205 has now been cut up and disposed of? I can see why they wouldn’t quite fit in with the image of the hotel!
  21. that’s the one! That Railfest is quite sentimental as it was the last rail show that mum came with us to. even the base loco would be great (I think it ran in that livery without the advertising), so that some nice Railtrack transfers could be added to. I’ve never been brave enough to work out the body permutations on it by this point to try and model it accurately!
  22. Railfest advertising livery with Locomotion as an option?
  23. Even better news Dutch / Dutch Transrail??
