  1. And hopefully they'll be begging for the manager to stay on rather than calling for his head #englandiceland
  2. Oops. Thanks for your responses guys. Just noticed the email is actually name@vwannado.fr rather than name@wannado.fr which on skim reading seemed ok. Specsavers beckons, or should it be Vision Express for a change?
  3. I thought of that but his English isn't that great and although my French is good enough for touristy stuff it's not good enough to try to explain the scam to him over the phone. Hovering the mouse over the email shows 'normal' ie name@wanadoo.fr so emailing him is out as i don't have an alternative one. The start of the email used my first name, but that wasn't suspicious as our relationship is/was close enough for that to be ok. OT he's one of a number of Frenchman I've met who absolutely hate the way younger people now use 'tu' for everyone irrespective of the situation so I wasn't expecting him to use 'tu'.
  4. Guys, I know you're all streetwise but in case you have eg elderly relatives who you need to protect, I've just had an exchange which looks pretty much like a scam though there's no easy way for me to contact the French gentleman to confirm it isn't him doing the asking. In 2011-2015 we spent 2 weeks each year at a Gites in France close to Swiss border and certainly regard the couple as friends, as their own house was next door to the Gites. His email is on wannado.fr which I suspect isn't particularly secure. Whether he has other emails for more personal use I don't know but this came from the one used for making bookings and sending general greetings to all his clients. Last night I had a short email titled something like 'Troubling Situation' and the text asked me if it was ok for him to email me. Thinking it might be family death/illness etc I replied ok. The email I used was the one we use for all hotel bookings/websites etc so not personal, and if it gets compromised can simply stop using it and create another one. The response I got was: Merci de ta réponse et désolé si je te dérange. <Name> Google Translate puts it this way: Thank you for your answer and sorry if I bother you. I am on holiday in Athens or I forgot my stuff (my phone, credit card, and cash) in a taxi, now I have nothing. It is embarrassing for me to ask you this, but I would like you to tell me about 800 €, when I go back I will refund you at faster. Please keep this email only for you not to worry my entourage. If you're willing to help me, I'll tell you how make. I am waiting to read you and thank you very much. Given he has plenty of French (and Swiss) friends/family and we haven't visited since 2015 (and I also have his bank details unless he's changed banks) this looks pretty much like a scam so I've not replied this time round. Has anyone else had this one? I know you all have plenty of other tales to tell, just not sure if we'ce seen this version before?

  6. A strong performance from the French last night IMHO. Quick on the break, strong defence and ability to shut the game down once in the lead. Just one set piece separated the teams. Thankfully England have been practising set pieces a lot as part of Gareth's strategy - when we play the French it could well be set pieces that settle the game?
  7. There's something strange about BBC coverage of flypasts at Buckingham Palace. This seems to happen repeatedly where the commentators are talking to pictures on one monitor whilst we the viewers are seeing something else.
  8. I don't mind who wins tonight, I think the current England side have shown they can beat either (bearing in mind we fielded 8 subs against Belgium). I am secretly hoping for extra time and penalties though.
  9. Watching the Beeb on TV they were saying first appearance of F35's over London which was correct (unless they stealthily flew over some other time!)
  10. Rails have a number of Bachmann/Farish items in OO and N. Interestingly they say there will be a delay in dispatch so either factory clearance or some other kind of job lot on the way? The one that caught my eye was OO Fairburn tank for £79.50 + p/p which seems quite good given today's prices for new ones. I already have one and don't neeeed another but you know how things are...... https://mailchi.mp/railsofsheffield/Bachmann-farish-clearance Edit: Didn't notice the prev post was the same thing. Appt booked for Vision Express.......
  11. A great display. All that was mising was for them to loop the 22 Typhoons to match the 22 Hunters of 111 Sqdn!
  12. I'm sorry you feel your arguments are so weak you can only resorting to belittling others. Rmwebbers are mostly capable of better debate. At least pete macfarlane has explained the difference between herbal and homeopathic. How would the average man/woman/non-binary in the street know the difference?
  13. Oh dear, oh dear. I'm no cheerleader for homeopathy but do find doctors very lacking in science at times. Pretty much the whole of modern (western) medicine is based on the teaching of Hippocrates and his well known use of willow bark to produce salacilic tea etc etc. Something which presumably these days would be ridiculed as homeopathic quackery? The use of dock leaves to alleviate nettle rash has been known for centuries. More homeoptahic quackery? I doubt these are the only 'natural' remedies but I'm not gullible enough to think all homeopathy works either. Another point to bear in mind is that most 'scientific' studies are funded directly or indirectly by pharma companies. What do you expect the 'scientific' result to be? If it shows any benefit from homeopathic remedies it's simply buried by he who pays the bill. As I mentioned in the earlier posting, the 'science' involved in the testing of arnica didn't look particularly scientific to me. (Other opinions available). I certainly wouldn't consult homeopathy before a doctor but I really get annoyed at doctors TOTALLY rubbishing homeoptahy when current medicine is based on what was homeopathy. (Eventually we worked out how willow bark worked and now we treat aspirin as being science)
  14. Meanwhile back at the football-ish https://www.aol.co.uk/news/2018/07/09/private-jet-demand-soars-as-england-fans-club-together-to-travel/ Nice to see plenty of fans digging deep into their pockets to support our lads. #onceinalifetime

  16. Living Doll - Has he moved out of the uk yet?
  17. Surely it comes down to what you mean by 'evidence'? If I'm reading it correctly the trial you quoted relied on patients being selected in a post-operative condition, and the results being heavily geared towards 4 days and then 14 days after surgery? Some of the respondents on here seem to be quoting its use for muscular (or at least non post-operative conditions) over a period of time. If the test doesn't reflect the areas where people believe it has results then it's not surprising the 'scientific' test doesn't support their subjective findings?
  18. I forgot to mention, despite my fears yesterday there may not be enough fans in the stadium - once we'd scored the 1st goal there's was only on set of fans to be heard. They kept the momentum right through 'til the end and it must have been a great boost for the lads on the pitch. It's great to be able to mention English fans in a positive light. Hopefully there'll be plenty more of them in Moscow.
  19. My first thought was that Croatia would be tired, but then England seemed fresh enough yesterday after the Columbia match. I doubt Gareth will underestimate them. BTW I had appreciated just how many times Pickford had been loaned out. Gareth's man-management in showing faith in players is being well rewarded for him and the players themselves. Edit for typo
  20. Although goals from open play are nice to watch surely the object is to win, not necc play to a particular style? Southgate seems to have studied previous World Cups in detail and recognised an awful lot of goals come from set pieces - and indeed the 1st goal against Sweden was from a corner - and also we seem to be the best at set pieces in this competition, so no complaints here. It's gonna be a nervous 2nd half as we can't rule out the Swedes just yet.

  22. Tough day today. The Swedes IMHO are very difficult to beat. One of the ex-footballer pundits last week who'd played against them said they have this way of suffocating you - which seemed to me to sum it up well. Through this tournament they seem to have been very good at getting say 7 men back quickly to form a yellow wall that's difficult to beat. Slightly concerned to hear from reporter on the spot this morning, was that only 1600 tickets sold to England fans and 2000 to Swedes. OK so there'll prob be more determined fans who are there as well, but who will the neutrals support? My guess is the Russians would rather face Sweden assuming they can beat Croatia?
