  1. IE086 approaches Claremorris with an ecs working from Manulla Junction so the stock can be serviced. Steam heating/oozing is evident despite this being 01JUNE2006
  2. How Deep Is Your Love - Bee Gees
  3. At £7 for economy delivery it's hardly surprising. For the price of the wagon he could offer free postage bring it round
  4. Unfortunately early March 2018 saw the ‘Beast From The East’ roll in, and for the first time it was too cold to work in the garage for some days. Normally in winter the temperature drops to 4 deg C overnight (or more properly 39F for the period of this model). Occasionally it drops to 2C but in any case with good insulation, a couple of electric fires and a zipper jacket, it becomes bearable fairly quickly. Not so this winter! For the first time ever it was zero (or 32F) and with the cold winds, and just trying to walk a few steps from the house to the garage kept me out. This was followed by some periods of family illnesses which rather put paid to further scenic work for a while as I couldn’t find enough long periods to be able to do the work I wanted. All was not lost as my mojo remained fairly intact. It did mean however, I was restricted to short spells of painting and weathering stock – grabbing a few minutes here and there. As a result this update is just ‘new’ items of stock. Ex-LNWR G2a 49061 from Bletchley shed has been seen quite often recently wheezing her way around with coal trains. rev 49061 front 800px by Sarah S1ddons, on Flickr rev 49061 curve 800px by Sarah S1ddons, on Flickr Our local carriage enthusiast has got quite excited with sightings of some cascaded Eastern Region stock including this Thompson Composite on an Oxford-Cambridge working. rev Thompson Composite 800px by Sarah S1ddons, on Flickr This Gresley 8 compartment 3rd looks like it’s spent far too much time commuting to the smoke. rev Gresley 8 compartment 800px by Sarah S1ddons, on Flickr I’d like to add some figures to the Hornby coaches but those footboards are just so delicate I can’t seem to get the bodies off without wrecking them so I guess they’ll have to spend their lives working ecs.
  5. Any clues as to where exactly pls? There's currently 1215 pages.
  6. We don't all have the space to model them (and train formations) in their prime. As supplementary coaches on a secondary route, maroon would suit me just fine for 1960ish
  7. OK so here's the completed Thompson pair. The composite went through a different overhaul cycle so isn't quite as world-weary as the brake. These pictures were taken inside rather than in full daylight. The roofs have not been weathered apart from a spray with Testors Dullcote. This seems to have made the roofs noticeably darker and this isn't just an effect of fluorescent light rather than daylight. I'd like to put some people inside but the footboards on these (and the Gresley stock) are so fragile I can't seem to get the coaches apart without wrecking them. Because of this, the underframes are sprayed with frame dirt, I wasn't going to poke around trying to dust them with weathering powders. I also had a go at a Gresley 9 8 compartment coach using similar techniques. Edit: The Gresley was sprayed with roof dirt and then trated to a mix of black and dark grey powder
  8. Let's hear it for the Hornby compartment stock. Out of the box, the Gresley NC stock is pretty good. However, with a bit of working up they can look just the job for your daily commute to those dark satanic mills. I'd like to put some people in them but the Gresley (and Thompson) stock have such delicate footboards I can't get remotely near dis-assembling them without destroying these.

  12. Last year's timings here - they're not the same but I find the point to point timings are often a good starting point for planning until the full detail becomes available. http://www.uksteam.info/tours/t17/t0513a.htm
  13. DCC Supplies have Dapol Class 08 in O gauge Guinness livery for £160 https://www.dccsupplies.com/item-s-unicorn/class-08-o-guinness-unicorn.htm
  14. Postage to the UK is £8.95 which is not astronomic. It looks like if you change to country of destination to Australia the Ebay system automatically changes it to International Priority shipping. The seller may not even be aware what it's showing for non-UK countries.
  15. I remember when they started to get chip and pin readers on gas/petrol pumps in the USA. 'As an added security please enter your zip code'. I took great delight in going to the cash desk to say their readers wouldn't take my postcode. 'It's easy just enter your zip code' (the card readers being all number). 'My zip code is HP11 1DP - how do I enter that on the keypad?' I doubt many readers of this column will be surprised to know just how many Americans don't realise there are places outside America who may actually do things differently. (Their last 3 presidents didn't, so why should the average Joe?) The solution in general was to send the Head of Household to the cash desk waving a fistful of dollars so they would authorise pumping, and then pay by card at the desk after pumping, which didn't present a problem.
  16. Breakfast room, Hotel Grischuna Filisur, May 2009 No need to go oustide yet?
  17. I was out of meths at one time and decided to give Micro Set a try as I had some handy. That seemed to work just a well so I've continued to use it on the infrequent occasions I need to use a Methfix sheet. BTW IMHO Methfix are much easier to use than Pressfix.

  19. As you know, us modellers tend to look at all kinds of detail including eg how many horses/sheep/cows would look realistic in a field. For the last 2-3 years it seems to me that the number of Friesian cows per field has gone up dramatically. It seems to me that there's at least double the number of cows per acre than there was even 5 years ago. Am I alone in thinking this?
