  1. I'd wonder if they might designate 2 to make sure of a backup plan if 60100 wasn't available for some reason. e.g. thinking of the 58s stranded in France after the end of their work.
  2. Bearing in mind how long it is since we saw the initial releases of FFA/FGA I'm surprised we haven't seen another run of either bare wagons or with different container liveries. I remember they seemed expensive wagons at the time, but they generally disappeared from shops fairly quickly too!
  3. Its when you see things like this that make it all the more baffling how shoddy they were in a few areas with the APT. It would surely have been easier and more accurate to only model the section of racks they needed and use a half-seated portion of tooling they already had, but they've gone to the effort of tooling up both to stick in the one coach. It really makes it look like the development budget was blown by a certain point and then just any old thing had to get chucked out.
  4. I dont think I've seen them anywhere else either, looks like catalogue photos rather than an actual genuine 'in stock' ones too.
  5. Most buyers of TXS chips would probably be more accepting of compromise and could potentially be used in other manufacturers DMUs too depending on pin count or wiring - 105, 108, 121, 122
  6. I can see what you mean, but I think there's a big difference between more 'normal' sales levels of perhaps 20-30% and 30-50% that we've been seeing. Of course it could be retailer's trying to clear space and shift stock, but quite a few of the models aren't that long released so perhaps earlier in the year rather than sitting on shelves for a while. I think that indicates a more fundamental problem of products missing their target rather than just quantities misjudged and will probably see an effect in less similar models being produced in future.
  7. I would have thought the only purpose of the capacitor would have been to provide flicker free lights with an element of stay alive, but agree with you and either it's faulty or not wired up correctly because it just doesn't work as supplied
  8. They totally should after the 2020 buyers have been totally fobbed off with a sub-standard product that should never have been released in the state it was. Paying out full price for that ended my interest in buying anything Hornby. The only reason I kept mine and didn't return it at the time was that I didn't expect a future production run of APTs - I expected it to be a one-off run perhaps not to be seen again for decades if at all.
  9. With the way TMC is discounting DMUs and EMUs to 40-50% at the moment and they're still in stock with more than 10 after several weeks, does it not make you wonder how viable some of the less common liveries or niche types are in model form?

  11. are there not 3 competitors over Class 25s? SLW and Heljan but also Bachmann were tooling up some body styles too weren't they? I can see the Class 37 coping with duplication to a certain extent, there are certainly an awful lot of detail variations and liveries carried by the class that it could be a slow burner and churn out models over a number of years before you can really decide on tooling being a success or failure. But what prices models need to be at to sell I'm not sure, there are plenty of examples of Bachmann 37s being price-matched to Accurascale and either there are a lot on the shelves waiting to sell or they're still not selling quickly at those kinds of prices - so you could be looking at 30% and upwards reductions before things start flying off shop shelves. I think we might be looking at a bit more of a price-conscious era for a while than manufacturers would be wanting.
  12. I certainly shouldn't have thought so in the time that Accurascale locos have been around for. There is always a chance of a dodgy or faulty motor, but the number of those should be pretty low

  14. a Class 120 has got to be a pretty open goal - in terms of widespread use of a distinctive class I'm actually really surprised no manufacturer has grabbed the bait yet. There's no mistaking the look and styling of them compared to other classes

I wonder whether there could possibly also be an impact from how many models are released from the same area in the same batch where buyers would be interested in multiple - 37043, 37401 and 37423 will all have been 1980s Eastfield locos so possibly competing for buyers cash at once. Admittedly if a 37/4 model is produced, the bulk of the fleet will have been at Eastfield in a variety of liveries for a good chunk of time. not that I mind, thats what I model and have bought all

  17. It must have been quite a delay to part of the batch, I bought a 37401 in February and think they were fairly recently out then. Surely they must have received more containers from China in that time
  18. If they'd been careful with picking alternative names/numbers to match the tooling details (and perhaps changed railfreight logo on the 37423) then I would have thought they could have sold many more more easily

  20. It seems very odd to repeat those exact same numbers - especially 37043 when it was already the same as the Accurascale release. Those 3 were included in the 50% off offer and disappeared rapidly
  21. How could you possibly think such a thing!!! I'm quite sure you'll find the fact is that someone wrote Class 71 on a post-it note 10 years before therefore claiming everlasting exclusing rights to developing a model
  22. Would that be some kind of streaking or deposits from the boiler washed down between the grilles? I wouldn't have expected hard water around there though
  23. I dont think that'll be the last of big reductions we've seen. I think there's too much stock on the market sitting around on shelves in general so I wouldn't be surprised if there were more big sales sooner or later
