  1. Caveat - knock off the beer aspect and I would actually have seen something on food on ERs that I could eat!
  2. The tunnel is brilliant and the rock faces make it that much better and the last image looks like it has been there forever. Have copied one of the pictures.
  3. We both get fuel allowance - now obvious that many ERs read well before ...
  4. Memory suggests that she was once married to who is currently the worlds best contemporary composer - the Australian Mr Williams. - first name eludes me at the moment.
  5. Lawyers, always ready to make a mint out of other peoples misery.
  6. This is becoming a real problem for model railway exhibitions/open events where to find a space in the first place is difficult and then to find that it coats an enormous amount, is some walking distance away and has limited parking time. The towns then complain that all the shopping is going to 'out of town' areas when the real problem is that nobody can park. Banks are another problem - not everybody can do everything 'online' so the banks close the village/small town banks so that to pay in you have to drive miles, pay exorbitant parking fees during the limited time that they are open, including of course remembering not going in on the day when you find they're 'late opening due to training'. Apologies, seems like a rant .. to be expected when the village shop first lost its post office and later closed down.
  7. Agree on most points but very well remember on a US back-packing trip in '67. In SfF history came up when visiting a friend mentioned about an Englishman teaching history who had given a different slant on the 'Tea Party' and subsequent aspects of American history including how many times they had invaded Canada. What he did not know, that in spite of being 1000's of miles away, was that I knew the person he was talking about quite well. Memory time - the trip also included Canada and while in Vancouver picked up a musician magazine and was surprised, and to be honest amazed, that one of the photographs in it was one taken by me. Strange coincidences happen.
  8. By the time I reach this type of post the night has gone - hope your night's sleep passed without disturbance.
  9. I see Beeching did get there after all as evidenced by the remains of track removal.
  10. I see the lack of council workers has led to extensive growth on the bridge!
  11. Also had that but as an email - looked good but ... off it went to report@phishing.gov.uk and in this case also to phishing @bt.com . seem to be having a regular spate of 'failed to deliver please rebook' type ones - send them all off to report and then delete.
  12. Surprised to hear that. Are with NHN and in reading easier to find where you left off with the small but perceptible 'space'.
  13. They possibly are those who hold the opposite view. Noted the comment from an anti where he said that the police should be after the felons ... forgetting of course that. most of the felons use a gun as part of their 'trade'. Also noted that the statistics stated that there were more guns than people ...
  14. Exactly the response expected ... but bet a few of the punters woke up the morning after wondering how they got those black eyes and blooded sore nose.
  15. Where's the recent upgrade to enable access to the pub for all!? ... and of course the soft cushion at the bottom for those who have had a bit too much ... Actually it looks great. Seems that Clive ,who was typing simultaneously , had a similar idea.
  16. Net curtains, bandages and lint have all been 'saved' and used'. The problem is the 'Why are you keeping that I threw it out' syndrome. Net are in fact better than bandages as they offer much less resistance when taking a layout apart as Andy P does frequently. He enjoys running but eventually the favoured 'build mojo' returns following of which the variety gives us enormous pleasure on this site.
  17. Sorry to have confused. The point was the rising of the retirement age and 'age' was meant to signify that someone (true case) has to reach 'qualifying age' and as that someone has not received a penny from the state viz - the double misfortune for a parent to die as they became redundant and for then at the critical stage to be over the 'limit' has caused them severe problems as with learning difficulties they have never been able to get another job. When they finally get their pension they will be, hopefully, able to live rather than survive.
  18. An incident where the count was one short - wow one very annoyed consultant having look back into the patient and the anaesthetist having to put a spare cylinder into use. Conclusion - not found inside patient report necessary and then gowns taken off and nestling just inside a surgeon's bra was the missing swab ... panic over and recriminations but how di it get there in the first place? Remained a mystery.
  19. No longer, you have to wait 'ages' after 65 to receive your state pension.
  20. Aka David Orme on a layout I won't mention!
  21. Glad that you are on your way to recovery but until the last sentence I had no idea of the weight you were talking about until you expressed it in 'proper' terms - thanks.
  22. Wow, hope that things get a lot better and that you get back to really enjoying the construction of locos etc.
  23. Another one, like the food regulations that apply to exhibitions as well, that a 'one size fits all' policy/decree is totally inappropriate and causes unforeseen problems. The same thing will apply if pavement parking is banned in the 'one size fits all' idea as I can name some roads that will become impassable (caveat - there must be enough space for a twin buggy to pass).
  24. Andy did set up a rail crash/crane scene some years back at the Roundhouse Notts - it looked very impressive and of course was photographed.
  25. Truly dangerous. Had an emergency call in once for a surviver. The story was they forgot their safety breathing apparatus but decided that it would not take long and did not go back for it. One went down ... soon after no sound and a second went down no sound ... and a third started to go down realised there might be a problem and rang '999'. Third one survived but the other two died. There was another disturbing aspect to this incident that made it a tremendous tragedy. @BR6103 congratulations for 48 and @Nick G welcome.
