  1. As for a build thread, hmmm probably not as I'm going to copy Ozzy's thread with maybe a couple of alterations along the way. ; )

Fair enough. When I get around to building one I'll know who to ask when I get stuck! ;)

Not sure when that will be as I currently have a 14XX awaiting detailing and a chassis, a 58XX with only the chassis built, and a 94XX pannier to build. The announcement, and my reservation, of the Lionheart B Set has brought loco building to the head of the queue!

  2. Morning Kev,

The whole of the fiddle yard has been built for a while now but as to the " scenic " part of the layout, I would say about a third.

I have decided to concentrate on building the rest of the baseboards now, so at least I can watch the trains go round.

Although I will be building a loco over the winter months, I have had the kit a while now, and picked up the motor/g/ box and wheels at Telford, so I have no excuses now.

    ATB,

    Martyn.

Ah, you've got more done than I realised. With your woodworking skills you'll have the remaining baseboards up in no time.

Is that the Collett goods you'll be building?

  3. As for the razor edge DRC I'm trying to get a kit made up.

Here's the cab that has been rapid prototyped. I won't go in to it too much on this thread but suffice to say it's the same person who did the 3D cad for the Betton Grange society cylinder block. He's a very clever guy and is doing the CAD work for the JLTRT 94 pannier.

    Steve,

Would it be possible for you to start a thread for this potential kit?

I would be very keen to have one.

  4. Yes, San Cheng/Tower have done 14xx and 57xx/8750 panniers, but £720 for a painted loco is a lot of money. And they both have their flaws. I purchased my DCC sound 74xx direct from Lionheart for just £650. Once you add the cost of sound to one of the Tower models you're looking at spending about £850.

If I was in the financial position to start my own company producing plastic bodied loco's, my first models would be the 14xx and 57xx/8750 panniers. Followed by the streamlined and razoredge railcars. I have no doubt at all that they would all sell. Of course this is all hypothetical because I'm poor!

  5. Just wondering how much room there is for DCC chips and a speaker...

I thought that might be your reason for asking.

The solid casting does mean you can't put anything in the boiler and smokebox. But unless you're fitting inside motion there's bags of room between the frames.

Are you being tempted towards the light again? ;)

  6. .....also the ash pan will need some trimming to clear the gearbox, well it does if you use the fold up gearbox made by Markits as that was the only one compatible at the time.0

I gave up trying to get a fold up gearbox into mine. In the end I opted for an ABC Gears Mini 7S with a Canon 1833 motor. Although there probably is enough room in the firebox for a Maxon motor.

  7. I was a bit miffed at the DEMU Showcase last weekend, you see I'm originally from Leicester and so in my yoof have imbibed in some good old Burton Ales, like Marstons, etc.

So imagine my angst when we had the get together at the National Brewery Centre and I walked into the bar expecting the likes of Marstons Pedigree only to be faced with ST.Austell Gold and Doom Bar!!!!

Now I'm not saying that these are not good beers, 'cos they are, but I now live in deepest Wiltshire and can get these beers round here but I was looking forward to sinking a couple or three Pedigrees.

Ah well I suppose I'll just have to suffer Wadworths 6X instead, till the next time I'm back home in Leicester for a grand pint of Everards Tiger :sungum:

    regards

    Neal.

Get yourself over to Holt and pick up a few bottles from the Box Steam Brewery. They put old Waddies to shame!

  8. I was a long time Hobgoblin drinker, but after enjoying a mini keg over xmas the bottled version was completely ruined for me. To me King Goblin has a chemically taste, last years xmas ale Bah Humbug also has the odd taste. Hobgoblin Gold was just an attempt to cash in on the summery citrus ale market, horrible stuff! For me the best Wychwood ales are Black Wych and Wychcraft (now sadly discontinued :()

Just finished a very nice bottle of Box Steam's Derail Ale IPA. That was preceded by one of my favourites a Wadworth Swordfish.

  9.

A couple of weeks ago I walked from York to Sand Hutton and found this sad Vanfit body near the course of the Sand Hutton Light Railway. It couldn't have been anything to do with the SHLR as that was narrow gauge and closed in 1930.It is simply sitting in a wood near the road with no obvious reason why it should be there.

There's an entire thread devoted to old grounded van bodies: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/1486-grounded-vans/

Most of them appear to be where they are for no obvious reason!

  10. Still no Isle of Wight version listed?

I don't think there was ever plans for the IOW versions.

More from the Tower website : "The Terrier locomotive is to be made available in two basic types with a total of six liveries"

  11. Tower Models are currently giving the following schedule:

Richard Webster has given us the latest information in regard to the forthcoming Dapol Terriers. They hope to have the first 3 liveries around the middle to end of May and these will be the SR Green, LBSC Stroudley Improve Green "Thames" and LBSC Stroudley Improved Green "Brighton" gold medal. The sound equipped versions of these becoming available approximately 3 weeks after the non-sound equipped have been released.

The remaining liveries (Both BR black early and late crest and KESR "Bodiam") will now be available approximately 3-4 months after the release of the first three liveries, again with the sound equipped versions available approximately 3 weeks after the non-sound launch. As is the nature of these things nowadays there are no firm dates as of yet.
