  3. Correct!... typing error. It should be 1999. Cheers Alan
  4. Hi Jeff You're a brave man taking on the biggest re-gauging exercise since the GWR mainline. However, you seem to be making excellent progress and I agree with Rowsley17D that the new layout flows really well. Regards Alan

  8. Nice work on the 56. I'd forgotten about the square mesh on the Romanian locos... Another job to add to the list. Alan
  9. Hi Jeff Tonight I remembered to ask a friend, who was a regular visitor to the line in the mid/late 60s (65/68), about Class 24s. Although it doesn't mean they didn't run, he didn't remember seeing any 24s while steam was around and was suprised when I mentioned the photos taken in late 1968. Like so many enthusiasts at the time he lost interest after August 68 and had stopped visiting the line by then. Diesel classes seen were 25s, 40s, 45s, 47s and occasional 46s. 50s were also regular on West Coast diversions. Pairs of 33s worked a cement train and overnight were the pairs of CoBos on the Condor freights. He also remembered the Black Five running in the path following the Metrovicks to rescue them if they failed! He never saw the CoBos, or even a photo of them, over the Long Drag as they ran in the early hours of the morning but imagined the sound must have been very impressive.. Cheers Alan
  10. Hello Rob More excellent photos and the latest stock is looking good. Whenever I see photos of Peafore Yard, I've always go to remind myself how small the scenic part of this layout is. Regards Alan
  11. The farm house should look fine, especially if you group it together with a couple of outbuildings and a barn. Cheers Alan
  12. More from 1990... 85030 Birmingham New St. March 29th. 86412 Wolverhampton. March 29th. 86224 Birmingham International. April 2nd. 90038 Glasgow Central. August 29th. 87013 Carlisle. August 29th. 86627 and 86430 Carlisle. August 29th.
  13. Another lovely layout... which I've somehow missed until today! Will, as always, enjoy watch progress on your latest project. Now following. Regards Alan
  14. Hi Jeff The photos I mentioned will be copyright so I'd better not post them here. The best one is of D5097 slogging up towards Ribblehead with a long rake of 16t minerals on the 29th November 1969. It's in - The Long Drag. Settle to Carlisle Portfolio by Gavin Morrison. (Ian Allan) Cheers Alan
  15. A few more photos from the 24th January 1990. 86424 Carlisle 86243 Carlisle 90031 Carlisle. Shortly after this photo was taken 90031 failed 400yds south of the station. The loco and stock were dragged back into platform 4 behind a Class 31. 86627 and 86439 Carlisle 85108 with 86608 passing Carstairs 87101 ready to depart from Carstairs. 87006 is stabled with 47640
  16. I'll keep a lookout for photos of a 24. So far the best I can do is a blue one at Hellifield in 1971.... and a green one - D5097 climbing towards Ribblehead in November 1969. The chances are they must have turned up on the line before 1969? Alan
  17. Surely you've been tempted by the Dapol O gauge 08? Even I've got one on order!.... No idea what I'm going to do with it, probably a couple of sidings on a plank. I realised that at about £170 this will probably be my only chance to own an O gauge loco. Cheers Alan
  18. Logged in tonight to find the Kirkby Luneside site had gone into overdrive following the decision to convert to EM. I've spent a while reading todays posts and it's obvious you've given it a lot of thought. You're up for the challenge, and you'd definitely regret it if you didn't make the changeover now. If I ever built another (small) 00 layout I've thought about making it EM so I'll be interested to see how you progress with KL2... especially when it come to re-wheeling the locos. Of course you could alter your time frame to 1968-73ish then you'd only have diesels to convert. Good luck Jeff... Regards Alan
  19. Sorting through old photos I found this shot on a strip of negatives. No idea of the date but it's either summer 1979 or 80. Hope it's of interest. Regards Alan
  20. Following from post 423, here's 84009/ADB968021 at Newcastle. 31st May 1991.
  21. July 12th 1989 I spent the afternoon photographing the WCML between Low Gill and Shap Summit. An unidentified 86/4 near Tebay. 90014 Low Gill. 86414 with 86432 85038 87xxx Now identified as 87032 thanks to 87029- post 414. A pair of 85s heading south from Shap Summit. 87014 on the last half mile climb to the summit. Not much chance to get photos from this location today. The trees should be well over 30ft tall by now. 87017 at Shap Summit
  22. September 23rd 1988. It's a Sunday evening and 31223 has arrived at Carlisle hauling an ailing 86224. Carlisle had an 81 stabled at the rear of the station and this was attached to take the service on to Glasgow after the 31/86 were removed. It was the last day of my Scottish Rover and I was on my way home but I couldn't resist the chance of an 81 over Beattock. The 81 wasn't in the best of health either, and I remember we reached the summit doing about 30mph.
