  1. More great photos Peter. I always enjoy a bit of trainspotting at Llanbourne. The 31 on the curve looks particularly nice. Cheers Alan
  2. Hi James Good luck for the visit to the cardiologist tomorrow. Hope it all goes well. Regards Alan
  3. Arrived a couple of days ago. something to keep me busy for a few months! I'm no expert when it comes to AFVs but enjoy the change from railway modelling and warships. These are two recent builds - straight out of the box with a bit of scenery added to the Hanomag.
  4. Hi Mike Incredible work on the couplings... A simple and effective solution for permanently coupled rakes. I don't know how you'd go about it but, as others have said, definitely worth looking at a patent. Who knows, you could have Jeff as your first customer Alan
  5. Amazing set of photos in post 4092. Very impressive modelling to really capture the type scenery through which the line runs. Alan
  6. Thanks for those behind the scenes photos... pity there isn't an "envious" button. Nice work on the wagon sheets. Alan
  7. A selection from the WCML between Docker and Scout Green. February 1994. 87009 Scout Green 86xxx near Docker 87002 86213 86229 90137 and 136 near Low Gill 86xxx Greenholme 86xxx Birkbeck Viaduct approaching Tebay.
  8. Unusual motive power on rail tours seems to be a bit thin on the ground during the late 70s, early 80s. There were occasional 37s and 26s on pw workings and I think I can remember seeing a photo of a 27 on a trip from Carlisle to Kirkby Thore gypsum sidings. Another way to introduce some unusual motive power would be the drags to/from Scottish depots. Apparently 20s were regularly dragged to/from Eastfield Depot and there's a shot of an 84 behind a Class 40 in one of the T G Flinders books. Alan
  9. Hi Mike My personal preference is for the second photos. The first ones have a slightly greenish tone while the second ones have a more natural colour... even possibly a slightly faded look, similar to many 1960s and 70s colour prints. I also forgot to say how really good your wagon loads looked in a series of photos you posted earlier this month. Cheers Alan
  10. Hello Jeremy and Simon They make a brief appearance in my2002 Platform 5. The reason for the sub-class is the fitting of composition brake blocks increasing the brake force from 40 to 50 tons. Numbers altered were 90221-5, 90227, 90233 90238-9. Alan
  11. Hi Jeff Stunning work... and you haven't forgotten the wooden posts, which seem to run along almost every dry stone wall, to support a couple of strands of barbed wire. Maybe this isn't the time to ask if you plan to reproduce the wire Alan
  12. Hi Mike Thanks for the latest photos. Those blue diesels do look nice Regards Alan
  13. Hi Jeff Seeing the latest photos, the work you've done on the ballast looks really good. Trying to analyse colour photos, especially those dating back to the 60s, will drive you crazy...so many variables, including the quality of the original print. As Jason said, no need to over do it. Plenty of other jobs to do and you can always make alterations at a later date if you decide the colour isn't to your liking. Regards Alan
  14. Overnight at Carlisle, June 1993 Without the correct colour balance filter the quality of some of these shots isn't too good. 86602 with 86620. 87028 86405. 90149 and 135. 864xx. 86635 with 86609.
  15. A selection taken near Grayrigg on the WCML. March 1993. 86214 87013 86416 86608 with 86612 86414 87034
  16. I had a quick look on the internet but couldn't find any info about the stock. Here's the train passing Heaton behind 90025 in March 93. I didn,t post this photo before as the quality is poor.
  17. More photos from 1993 taken at Newcastle. 91027 February 91003 with Lab15 and Mk4s 87008 March 91002 with nameplate covered before the naming ceremony. May 90023 June ...and bringing up the rear 90012 September
  18. Thanks Andy - I've been looking at some of the other small layouts which is how I suddenly noticed Beale St and instantly recognised its creator I'm hoping to get the new n gauge layout 90% complete by summer and will then start some serious planning. Any plans for a 00 layout will be put on hold as I'm keen to start playing with the 08. I never thought I'd have the opportunity to model in 7mm until Dapol produced their 08. When I saw the price I dithered for a couple of days then couldn't resist pre-ordering a blue one. In the near future I'll probably start by ordering a few wagon kits ... a 20t brake, a couple of 12t vanwides and maybe a VAA or OAA. It's going to be expensive, but seeing all the new stock arriving at Beale St is making me very envious... Alan
  19. Hi Andy I got a shock when I first saw you modelling O gauge. I suspect you won't be the only one to start building a 7mm layout following the arrival of the Dapol 08. I've been lurking here since ordering my 08, but missed Beale St as you started the new Iayout while I was away at the end of 2016. I've since spent a few days reading through all 31 pages as you're building something very similar to what I have in mind. Ultimately I'll be limited to about 9ft with an 08 and preferably a Class 26 with 12-15 wagons plus a brake. Unfortunately the blue/Rf grey 26 is no longer available. The planning and building of Beale St, along with the info and advice from other contributors, is providing me with plenty of ideas and inspiration. Now following... keep up the good work. Regards Alan
  20. Hi Peter Great photos, especially the oil stained sides of the Class 40 and the chipped paintwork on the front of the Peak. Would loved to have joined you for the running session on Saturday but was quoted £600+ for the return trip Regards Alan
  21. The wrong kind of snow? Newcastle, November 1993. 91007 47824 with 91005 and 029 90022 47675 and 91007 90024

  23. Thanks Jeff..... 777 Sir Lamiel crossing Dent Head taken with a telephoto lens. This one, taken a few minutes later, is near Arten Gill. February 1991. Cheers Alan
  24. Hi Mike Thanks for more great photos ....and a favourite?? It's probably going to be the Stanier masterpieces, 8F meets Black 5. Cheers Alan
  25. Hi Jeff That backscene looks spot on. The correct fells from the correct perspective helped, as you said, by the slight haziness of the photography. ...and that's from someone who's not a big fan of backscenes. So often they just don't look right although, to be fair, it's almost impossible to achieve a realistic transition from 3D model to 2D backscene. Alan
