  1. The class 31s usually operated local provincial services like the S&C out of Leeds but rarely if ever on the penines.
  2. Problem is the fact they are spares, quite often you don't know you need it until the original part breaks,so you can't stockpile all the spares for your full stock roster as you wouldn't have space
  3. Probably best to use a two part epoxy type glue as they tend to give good strong results when fixing metal and resin/plastic. As for any kit you get out of it what ever you want, if you want basic just build and go, if you want detailed then you can go to town and spend time and many hours studying pics and adding as much detail as you want.
  4. What period are you modelling as the main hall originally housed 2 turntables and the stores and workshop area were not open to the public, also are you modelling both buildings on each side of the road ?
  5. Got mine last week, the extending trailer is identical to the standard oxford model ( I ve got one of each now). I recently picked up an oxford leaflet showing forthcoming releases, one thing shown on it is a Komatsu 360 excavater with a standard size arm, I would believe this will be based on the same base unit as the long arm stobart machine. I am thinking of getting another long arm machine to convert into a demolition machine with a set of jaws instead of the bucket.
  6. You could have tried sand blasting, may have still had 3 dimensions instead of just 2 dimensions. It reminds me of a miss hap that occured when I was working in a builders merchant hardware company, we recieved an order for 15 litres of a certain strong paint stripper ( comes in green cans and starts with N ). We packaged up 3, 5 litre cans and put them on the parcel carriers truck. The rear door was then closed, however it did NOT lock and whilst the carrier was driving along a busy main road the rear door opened and out came the paint stripper. Unfortunatley the car following had just left the new car showroom and it hit the 3 cans full on and covered the bonnet, windscreen and roof leaving the car needing a full respray and several replacement windows, OOPS! Thats good paint stripper .
  7. Several years ago whilst working for a local concrete fabrication company I was required to take several concrete moulds to a yard about half a mile from ours for shotblasting. I had to move one mould at a time ratchet strapped onto the forks of a JCB Loadall. I had a flashing amber light on the cab and used my mirrors and indicators however on entering the yard I was taking the moulds to I had to swing out right in order to get into the gateway on the left. I had moved five moulds without a problem, however when moving the sixth I had a learner driver following me, as I came to the gateway I started indicating left and started to swing out at which point the learner decided to pass. Im not sure just how close we came but I needed 5 mins to stop shaking. 2 mins patience wouldn't have hurt and what sort of driving instructer would put there pupil in that of danger
  8. Whilst having a day out last year around west yorkshire I noticed the oil terminal at Greetland nr Halifax is still pretty much in tact and decided to take another ride past to try and get a photo to put into my prototype info file. having problems uploading a photo will try later
  9. When talking of niche markets the APT-E does still exist all be it as a museum piece but its still seen by many people everyday and as the S stock is still relatively new these have many years service and many thousands of people will see them there must be a reasonable market for them. The real niche markets must be the long lost diesel and electric prototypes which only lasted a few years and where only seen by a limited number of people yet several have now appeared in mainstream manufacturers catalogues as a standard release, so why shouldn't we see more tube stock next or even some DLR driverless units. NICE MOVE Bachmann LETS SEE MORE PLEASE.
  10. As reguarding the prototype and where it can be seen, with the way rolling stock is moved and engineering firms compete for work you could use this as a reason to model one of these units just about anywhere on the national rail network. As for the model it looks fantastic however an unpowered version would be useful for modelling being dragged from or to a depot or works. It would also be good as a start of a new line for underground stock. Maybe there will be some collecters club barrier wagons appearing in due course. Me thinks I am going to have to start saving my pennies as I can always find a place for one.
  11. Has it retained the original name as it appears to be carrying cast name plates, as well as the cast numbers. To be hoped if Hornby have ago at this they use the correct body moulding, buffers are easy just use class 92 buffers.
  12. It could be an optical illusion caused by the roof profile and lack of headcode box. Are the wipers the same size on both locos, if so then the windscreens are more or less the same size.
  13. Maybe its time to start lobbying the goverment to look at why the costs are so high in this country, if you look around our towns and cities we have hundreds if not thousands of empty industrial units which just fall into disrepair. This country was once the place to get anything manufactured, its about time we started working at getting back to making things and not just shipping everything in.
  14. Heres a really silly idea. Why dont these companies look a starting production in this country once again, we have thousands of people out of work, thousands of people with good education, good expertese in manufacturing and engineering just left on the scrap heap as the country develops its latest craze of phone sales. Maybe it would help turn the tide of ever increasing costs in production and transporting. It may also help cut down lead times between drawing, making the tools and getting the preproduction samples, if its all done in this country your not waiting for the next ship to arrive just a courier from another area of the country.
  15. Drivers who jump level crossings should be charged with endangering life as they not only risk there own life but that of there passengers and the lives of the totally inocent passengers and crews of the oncoming trains, and anybody else waiting patiently at the crossing. The whlle jdea of gates, lights, barriers or even the odd flagman is to protect life and drivers should respect that and not risk it for the sake of a short delay. If they are in that much of a hurry set of 10 mins earlier. Finally if they are charged with jumping a crossing make the punishment harsher with not only points and a fine but a possible prison sentance or make them do some work on the railway so they could learn some respect for rail workers and the trains they operate.
  16. As mentioned there isnt an NSE livery version mentioned in the list however has everyone forgotten the 2 different light blue 73/0s and the Mersey rail 73/9s and the later EW&S, Railtrack and Network rail liveries
  17. All looking very good, hopefully I will be in a position to order some soon and it will create a starting point for a posible layout/diarama.
  18. I can see a few old Lima and Hornby power cars getting cut up now, very nice how about some etched hst grills and panels just to help.
  19. Toton used to have 2 scrapped class 37s used for moving power units around, they were dead 37s with the cabs still left on the chassis but the body shell between the cabs removed. That allowed the power units to be moved around for work to be done.
  20. You could easily use these parts on a preserved line layout. When I was a working member on the KWVR we had a class 25 engine sat in the yard at Howarth for quite a while before it was transplanted into the 25.
  21. Other power units would be a great addition, however you could create a full range of depot details like traction motors, possibly pallets of batterys, roof panels and bogie frames minus fittings etc.
  22. Charlie you knew when you started the 144/143 that you'd be expected to do a new improved 142 using the same technology. A 141 would be nice but a little less usable around other regions.
  23. Most people wouldnt know the difference between the 2 types, for me it looks fine and gives the idea. It would look good on a depot layout either in a part stripped shell or sat on a flat wagon or trestles. Once weathered and positioned where you want it, it will look great. Next would you do a 37 engine if poss, then I'll have to hunt down some cheap old Lima chassis/boby donars.
  24. That would depend on how much the loco cost to purchase, plus how much attention you want to do yourself. If you just want to get it out of the box and run without any work it may not be what you want, but dont forget these are budget models and will hopefully bring in some new blood to the hobby.
  25. When modelling the mainlines note the size of the signal post, they are a little on the extreme side. One each side of the mainlines, the trunking and signal cabinates will be easily doable using the Wills sets.
