  1. on the plus side the new Hornby coaches will have flush glazing and better underframe detail when compared to the old Replica coaches
  2. doesn't DJM make the SPA for Hugh at FTG, and if so could they have made some sort of deal to market some there limited edition range.
  3. a topic can have lots of views but if people are not interested or do not know any further information then they don't add to the post.
  4. How about wooden Scotch blocks, wheel skates, and some of the post office "Yorkie trollies or 1/2 Yorkies" (as in the steel sided ones with yellow plastic bases), possibly some plastic parts bins, either the smaller wall mounted or bigger stackable type.
  5. good to see that health and safety had not gone mad yet in 1986, as in the lack of hard hats and hi vis clothing.
  6. The Hornby HAA is available in 2 versions, the Railroad version is around the same age as the VDA / OAA wagons, where as the main range version was retooled and much improved in 2003. Along with this new version of HAA came the HBA, CDA, and MHA all based on the same chassis. Both companies make a HEA which if you trace there production back actually come from the same origin, however Bachmann have modernised the wagon in recent years. Hornby make the PCA depressed tank which is a pretty good model, however Dapol and Lima made these wagons first and Hornby actually own both versions now. Hornbys Clam, Rudd, Tope and Shark engineers wagons are actually good models, but they are recent models. Hornby where the first to do a container flat, which is now getting on for fifty years old, however they have recently done a KFA single container wagon which is equal to the Bachmann container wagons in detail. Bachmann are due to do the original version container flat soon which should make the old Hornby container flat totally redundant. Both companies have produced the OTA timber wagons which are both good models, however they have made different versions so that each company has a different wagon. Hope this is of some help.
  7. Oh my poor wallet, looks like I'll have to find the end of that rainbow soon. Just need the 80s type warflat and some side door type 20 ft containers now.
  8. only one problem with 141s is the lack of liveries carried as 141,0s a couple carried Workington blue and white, rest WY Metro green and cream as 141,1s all carried WYPTE red and cream stripes until withdrawl then one carried Serco grey and red, several are currently in Brown and cream (preserved) and several are still in a form of red and cream for use in Iran. there are also external differences between 141,0s and 141,1s
  9. as Im modelling the late 80s and 90s they are technically to early for me but I may get a couple and mark them as internal user. I could really use some of the later ones as Im working on a military train at the moment and will be building several warflat/warwell kits in the near future. Im also building up a nice set of VEA wagons with the explosives markings using the Parkside kits.
  10. do the different colours denote different braking stains ,thus which colours should be used on which type of equipment. Also are the vehicles still chocked to stop sideways movement with the red wedges.
  11. yes please, may just have to start a little O gauge layout now, sorry wallet.
  12. Corgi do a Jackal (#49 model number) and landrover defender (#41 model number) which don't look to bad with a little work.
  13. looking good, love the overgrown siding
  14. On the idea of chaining down of vehicles, Langley models do chain tensioners which can be bought as individual items from them if you visit there stand at an exhibition. I have also seen eched ratchet strap tensioners on Ebay.
  15. Thanks I may have to purchase several items having had a quick look, very useful site
  16. Great layout thread and some great rolling stock. I'm in the process of putting together some military trains myself but I am now really struggling to find and get hold of the great military vehicles that Airfix did until a couple of years ago, ( Bedford MK, Landrover 101s, Scorpion/Scimitar etc).
  17. concrete area looking superb, real inspiration for some future modelling. One thing I noticed is the two liquid containers are upside down as the metal pallet part is the base, the top has a round plastic cap on which you could put a little paint on. I have some which I have made to look part full of liquid by using thinned down paint dripped in between the mesh impressions. Different colours for different liquids such as pale red or pale yellow for diesel and green or blue for anti freeze.
  18. Hornby's quality control in China may consist of does it contain all the parts and does the motor work, so once it gets to us as modellers we are looking for more as in it has to look just how " I want " and must run how " I want ". In some cases are we becoming to complacent wanting everything immediately. It wasn't that long ago that if we wanted a certain loco we had to do some proper modelling.
  19. Middleton railway in Leeds dates back to 1758 and is the earliest railway to gain an act of parliament, however I don't know what the original track gauge was
  20. looking great, very inspiring well done
  21. how about powered pantographs, would be great if modelling the switch over from third rail to overhead without the hand of god to help.
  22. Very nice little layout, I like the MOD trains and loads, keep up the good work
  23. That would be great and bring back some memories from years ago, out with some mates doing a day spotting on a weekend, hunting down those 56s and 58s that we never saw up in West Yorkshire at the time. If you would like to model it then carry on , people go to exhibitions to look at model railways of all eras and locations, some are of real places ,some are just made up but at the end of the day its about enjoying the modelling you do.
  24. one day I may be able to model to your standards however in the mean time you give plenty of inspiration to lots of us lesser modellers
