  1. did you purchase it new from a shop in person and see it test run prior to getting it home or did you purchase it untested?
  2. just found this thread and read the story so far, wish you all the best and look forward to being able to visit and spend plenty of time and money once the project is completed
  3. so good to see a model shop being saved rather than just closed down, well done to all those involved many thanks.
  4. I know its technically not within the question but during the 90s several different classes of freight locos were used along with a class 47 for heat on service trains. These included class 25, 2x 26s, 2x 20s, 56, 58 generally with 10 coaches replacing the usual 156s.
  5. would it be possible for you to organise a courier or shipping agent to ship it on your behalf
  6. There are several depots planned and being upgraded at present for the new class 800 bimode trains
  7. Looking good Simon, next up some weathering
  8. There is one major point of difference which you must take note of if you are modelling one of these vehicles, GUVs have straight sided bodies to the narrow body profile, whereas BGs and standard mk1s had the curved body profile. One way to model these would be to use either a DC kits or Southern Pride mk1 coach end moulding to give you the body shape and then use a corridor connector of your choice.
  9. so any guesses as to what will be on show. class 150, an HST, an 800 in GWR colours, some 66s, 67s, maybe a 57, a 68 some preserved locos and a building site.
  10. Frizinghall at Bradford and KJB Models at Castleford (No connection), haven't actually used them but regularly brose there web sites Have used Rails and found there service excellent, fast, and well packaged, will definatly use them again.
  11. Or they were simply so bad those who bought them just confined them to the spares bin and went out and bought the better Hornby model. The Lima model wasn't actually around that long at all before the demise of the Lima company, so they didn't have any time to improve the mechanism and refine it, however if the company was already struggling when the model was released it could also answer some of the issues with the original Lima model.
  12. have you any plans to do the 3 car 144s as yet and the original metro livery
  13. Layout looking great, some great rolling stock. The 58 is stunning, really good use of an old Hornby loco.
  14. nice little brake van, ripe for a little detailing just got to find some on sale locally now
  15. will you be doing the railfrieght distribution red and yellow diomonds for the VEA vans used on MOD traffic and wagon data panels
  16. The track plant looks superb, do you have any drawings for the 08-275.
  17. If the night star stock had stayed in this country it could have been converted or reallocated for normal use, maybe someone may try to model some of that fleet.
  18. As far as I was aware the MK4s were fitted with tilting bogies but the electronics and software were not fitted thus not allowing them to operate. Aren't the new coaches for the Transpenine services to be classified MK5?
  19. Or a crowd of stranded passengers and some HiVis clad protesting railstaff. That way you can just sit and look at how good they look hat, coat, leaving.....Ian
  20. Wow they look good, as above, have you got the details on price yet. By the way those etches would be very useful if you sold them on there own, I have several projects I could do with those for, just a thought
  21. I have worked on preserved steam locos, many years ago, wear and tear along with age do cause problems. Other things do also have to be taken into account aswell. One thing is the loss of trained engineers who worked with steam. you could use the construction of "new , replica" locos to help train and keep knowledge on going. A possibility would be to start a new engineering collage where training would come from the construction of new locos.
  22. Its a very sad fact that, all bar 1(soon to be hopefully more) operational steam locos in this country are now getting on for 60/70 plus years old. These locos are now suffering from some quite major issues arising from ware and tare. It is also a definite fact that as the years go on it costs more and more to keep these venerable old locos going. There will and is coming a point when we will start to see more and more of these machines being sidelined and eventually "stuffed and mounted". Know may be the time to start looking at creating a group of "new build" replica steam locos to keep the history alive. It will soon cost more to preserve than to replicate, look at a comparison between the cost of restoring Flying Scotsman to the cost of building Tornado. Sad but unfortunately the future, Me thinks.
  23. That bridge look superb, look forward to see it once its properly bedded in.
