  1. PWM650-PWM654, class 02, class 06, for locos a decent 142 or 156 dmu ,507, 508 emu warflat and warwell for wagons.
  2. Slightly off the thread but Hornby have taken the 87 out of the range but left the 86, then were is the sence in that . They surely should have pulled the 86 and left the 87 that way there isn't duplication between manufacturers. The Heljan 86 has faults but its to modern standards where as Hornby's 86 dates back to the 80s, no lights, no diecast chassis, no central can motor with flywheel and that over scale toy like pantograph. At least the 87 would mean no duplication, it was a little better detail wise and if they used the Lima style pantograph it wasn't actually a bad loco. If Hornby used there heads they could do a better version of the 92 also, class 60 chassis and cab interior/lights, the old Lima pantographs from the Lima 92, only real retooling would be new bogie sideframes. Now would be the best time to grab the market for OHEL with the introduction of Peco and Dapol's over head catenary systems people will start to think about building more models of electrified lines.
  3. If we look at the "modern locos" in Hornby's range the majority are actually old toolings with an updated drive system. When they do retool a model they make a good job, as in 08,31,43,50,56,60 and 67, plus the only really new diesel model, the sentinel shunters . The older models of which the majority are 25 to 30 years old and do not have the level of detail that we expect of modern models however we still have to pay as much.
  4. just what planet are these people at Hornby living on. Would you want to use a standard Hornby 91 on a modern DCC layout alongside locos fitted with working head, tail and cab interior lighting, highly detailed cab interior, opening cab doors, sound fitted and then to top it all off the totally toy like pantograph. Hornby already make locos featuring these details and sell them at a price befitting of such detail, however they expect the modeller to spend the same on what is very much a basic railroad model, little wonder they are showing a down turn in profits.
  5. Is a B unit a cabless power unit ?
  6. Just a little thought but they could follow these up with warflats and warwells with vehicles available from within the vehicle range again Love the new range hope its just the beginning and the keeps going from strength to strength
  7. That also results in many sidings full of semi redundant hopper wagons which are only a few years old. Look at Milford sidings and hunslet yard in Leeds
  8. I'd have one even though its not really the era I prefer to model however it looks good only let down by the white numbers, would look better as cast or at least shadowed. What about 66746 in Royal Scotsman livery, would anyone fancy one of these as well ?
  9. Yeah ! back to real LHCS on the pennines, might have to start spotting again. Once its electrified will we get the 88s instead or is it a way of getting out of electrifying the Leeds to Manchester section
  10. I'd be reluctant to use an HO tamper on a layout of this standard as they look undersize alongside OO locos, I would go for the Clockwork models 08-16 tamper kit. Look forward to seeing this layout on the exhibition circuit, superb modelling.
  11. Looking good so far, I like the graffiti how about some lineside debris to go with it, cones, shopping trollies, old tyres etc. Have you seen Evening star yet (66779) yet and if so will you be adding it to your fleet.
  12. another option would be to fit a second chip just for the lighting so you could set them however you wanted, I'm sure its already been done so there are probably details of how to do it somewhere on the net.
  13. That model of 20172 reminds me of seeing it dumped at Toton, however someone had been having fun with the bonnet doors

    Ask Dave

Would you consider doing some track plant, I believe this is a very poorly covered area which all other manufactures do not think of interest and it is about time we got some decent OO gauge plant models
  15. Having worked in the timber trade for many years I tend to prefer to use local timber and builders merchants instead of the big DIY chains, you get better quality, more choice, useful advice and decent prices, some also do deliveries aswell. Another point is if you use a merchant you cut out the middleman as they tend to souce materials direct.
  16. Hi rob D2, heres a few of my soft skins mainly kit built for a possible future militaty depot, barracks or TA base on a future layout. I may also use some as wagon loads. The models that Airfix aquired from JB models were very nice , however they have taken the Bedford MK and Labdrover 101s out of production which is very unfortunate as they would be great for loading on trains. Revel make the kits for the M.A.N truck in 4, 6 and 8 wheel versions. I plan on making an 8 wheeler military recovery truck soon.
  17. On the wagon side you could try "British railway modelling book no.3 Modern wagons in 4mm scale, making the best of ready to run models, by Nigel Burkin" Nigel Burkin has done several books about modelling modern image wagons and locos and on converting them to EM gauge, so keep looking out for them. There is also the series of books by David Larkin "Working wagons volumes 1 - 4 and Civil engineers wagons volume 1-3 " hope these are of some use,
  18. Gascoigne wood was a coal blending point as well as loading point which ment it had an unloading point (1 road) as well as the rapid load loading point (4 roads if I remember correctly). It also had a cripple siding, run round road and twin track service line along one side between the loaders and the coal concentration site. There was regularly a class 08 shunter around, however it was the train loco which worked the loader/unloader.
  19. Looking good, what livery will you be finishing it in.
  20. Lets hope Arriva are better at running the trains then running the buses. I spent an hour on thursday night waiting for a bus heading for Leeds, 2 buses on the Huddersfield run passed while I was waiting (same service, opposite direction). I eventualy caught a bus to Heckmondwike to use a different route only to find once I got there the next service I wanted was also suffering disruption and delays. Arriva have spent alot of money this year on brand new buses and upgrading buses on major routes, yet they regularly suffer delays. They could have spent some of the money sorting out a way to improve the service provided. Maybe keeping a couple of spare buses at mid route points to take up slack caused by heavy traffic or roadworks.
  21. Every livery is pretty, to the person who designed it !
  22. Very nice just when I thought it was safe to put my wallet back in my pocket, only hope they make a large enough production run, I only managed to get 1 Network rail falcon wagon.( at a decent price)
  23. I can see a future project for one of the 66s as its a non powered model. I'll model it with a body section removed and fit a cornerstone kit EMD powerunit, then it can be shunted around a depot layout.
  24. Oh dear I feel an early 1970s third rail layout coming on. I'm going to have to rejoin a club.
  25. If they are doing the pair of power units they are already breaking from just the NRM stock as only 41001 still exists after the other power car was cut up. Thus why not do the mkllls as well.
