  1. Another reason is the island with plats 13 and 15 on is shorter than the others with their split platforms. Keeping the IETs (or whatever they are called at the moment) on those two platforms stops them blocking up two platforms elsewhere. Apparently there is a shortage of those platforms anyway judging from the recent furore over units on layover being taken out of the platforms and left to idle next to the housing south of the station...
  2. Compared to other sites, the RMWeb Forum is 'grindingly slow' - the number of times I get '522' error screens when opening topics... This evening, I made a reply to a topic and got a 522 error before the updated page was returned; I did not re-click on 'Submit post' or page reload, but eventually got the page back, with my reply entered twice. All other websites I go to on a regular basis have lightning fast response, it's only RMWeb where I have time to put the kettle on before I get a reply...
  3. I would have thought that the likelihood of passenger customer injury due to being unbalanced by the shock of a rough coupling-up might be a reason not to make the joining manoevre before the customers standing in the vestibules awaiting the opportiunity to alight have detrained - but then again, with the amount of long-term standing experienced nowadays...
  4. The crimson/cream on both manufacturers' products appear to be largely the same - I certainly have items of both and they look the part when running in a rake together. Dapol have used the earlier version on their low-window Maunsells, the running numbers are at the left-hand end of the coach and the above-window crimson stripe is rather broad compared to the later version (right-hand numbers) used by Farish on their Bulleids and Mark 1s. In later years, BR(S) tended to omit the above-window stripe on Maunsells, as on the corridor side of high-window versions, there's very little space to put one...
  5. The Dapol 'BR(S) Green' is more like Malachite, but despite my advising them of that when the painted EPs were displayed, they didn't change it. The Farish version on their Bulleids is a shade too dark, so you can't win...
  6. "You wait all day for one and then three come along at the same time"...
  7. I think you mean 'paywall'... My deepest thoughts and sympathies for the current Australian plight - we are used to our (UK) politicians absconding on jollies at inopportune moments, but when your country is burning a holiday elsewhere is not a very good way to endear yourself to your countrymen and women...
  8. And that solution is...? As a regular user of BTM I'm a little fed up of trains which are already late having more time added to the delay by them crawling to a halt on a line which patently in the past has seen faster movements. The snails move faster sometimes...
  9. I had a job to install the computer equipment in a new Head Office building for the company I worked for, in the days when the computers had to be in their own, fully air-conditioned environment with dedicated electrical installation. I was asked to provide 'full details of the equipment that would go into the room' , so I did. Full dimensions, and the required clearances for installation and maintenance, air conditioning specs and location, and full peak and steady load requirements for the juice, and even included a copy of the room plan as helpfully provided for the job by the computer suppliers. The 'final plan' was a complete disaster. The 'Computer Room' was only 40% of the size required - the bloke in charge said he couldn't fit it all in as the Chairman and CFO wanted bigger rooms - the former was only in two days a week and the latter wanted a conference table in his office when there was a perfectly suitable one in the dedicated room next door. The resulting 'discussion' wasn't for faint hearts, but in the end the computer room was provided as required - the threat to host the Finance systems elsewhere and bus in the output so that the CFO couldn't get his financial reports he wanted in the timescale he wanted otherwise was probably the deal-clincher.
  10. I think it might also be the case of a new franchise wanting 'their own' stock rather than another batch of whatever other Franchises are using...
  11. I think that's an instruction, not an informational message...
  12. It's not Paddington - there's only two platforms there. From the look of the train describers, it's Earls Court.
  13. 1833 was a 2NOL. In later years its underframes could be found under a Bulleid-style 2EPB or 2HAP...
  14. Did the same apply to the Weymouth Harbour Tramway, I wonder?
  15. The TSO in the 455/7s was one extracted from the 508s when they were exported to Merseyside...
  16. Picking up my tickets for my next trip out and there was a notice on the ticket machine at Yatton. Apparently the first two up services to Paddington ex-Weston-super-Mare will be one 5-car set, which will couple up to a second one at BTM to form the full train to London. This is for staff and customers to get used to the procedure, which will become the norm once the new timetable is in operation.
  17. When I was travelling frequently on the Central Division, the Victoria-Ore services were diagrammed to have the Big as the front unit in a 8- or 12-car train as it was left at the bufferstops on the reversal at Eastbourne, the Cig(s) running up to Ore and back... Our ideal substitution was Cep vice Cig, as it gave us more compartments to choose from.
  18. This guy has a good say on the matter... (the first 7 and a bit minutes are the nitty-gritty)
  19. Very similar to those that knew about, and headed for the only second class compartment in a Big or Cig on the SR...
  20. In the evening, the Cig vice Big also meant some commuters would be arriving at their destination sober...
  21. Just found this topic, had a quick read through. When I've got time and I'm not slaving over a hot baseboard I'm usually on the PC tackling one of Paradox's GSG (Grand Strategy Games), usually Stellaris or Europa Universalis IV (listed in descending order of my competence), or in 'City Builder' mode on Cities Skylines or Surviving Mars... A couple of shots of a Cities: Skylines build:
  22. What we here in the UK call 'POETS day' [Push Off Early, Tomorrow's Saturday] Sometimes the first word is another beginning with the same letter.
