  1. GM EU engines have always been a mixed bag, but good ones are generally excellent and poor ones not so. Sometimes they would have totally different engines of the same capacity, eg the 1.2s. But the detune 1.3 in the Nova was silly, As the Nova 1.2 was a Family 1 it was pretty good, and the 1.3 was barely better. Never drove a 1.6 (got a proper job) but according to the owner I chatted to that was good. I remember delivering a 1.8 carb Carlton and the new recipient whinging about the colour, so I said to him to stop whinging about the colour as it was crap to drive and whinge about the engine. That was a horrible combination. And typical of GM EU using undersized engines in base model cars. 1.8 carb - junk 1.8 basic FI - bearable 2.0 EFI - much better, and no thirstier, cost little more and so much nicer to drive. I ended up owning one 5 years later. At that time there were 2 1.8 designs, CIH and F2, three version of F2. And 4 versions of the F2 2.0 ranging from 115bhp to 130bhp with minor changes such as compression and cam. The Carlton was weird as it felt more than 122bhp
  2. I would also like to see a replacement have a go as well, just look at what it took to replace a ECML Pacific.
  3. They had a modified version of the old Chevette engine, but the 1.3 (Family 1) was ridiculously better. Never has 100cc more been so worthwhile.
  4. Astras, I will look at the second generation, the blobby ones. At the time I had a part time job delivering them. 1.2* (50something) 1.3* (75) 1.6Early* (90) 1.6Late* (82) 1.6D* (between 1.2 and 1.3) 1.8* (@ 110) 2.0* (@ 120) GTE 2.0 16V (@ 150) * means driven 1.2 was terrible 1.3 fun 1.6 early quite good 1.6 late underpowered, slower than 1.3 1.6D OK but slow 1.8 torque steer city 2.0 scary Ex company car 1.3s would go round to about 7500rpm and were quite quick, real thrashmobiles. They were accurately described as fun. 1.2 was dreadful, took one from Cornwall to Gloucester, when dropped off I said it was junk and they should ask for the car I dropped off back (1.3) Drove a S/H 1.6 once, quite nippy, old 90bhp engine The later 1.6 was slow, slower than a 1.3 as barely any more power and it had a rev limiter. Diesel OK in a van but slow 1.8 bit torque steery but quite quick, only took short distances. Only drove 1 x 2.0 and it was quick (driven a lot quicker but scared me most) found it a lot scarier than any of the 3.0l cars (12v Senator was quicker on a twisty road than a 1.8 Astra!) As to the 16v that engine would have been better in the Cavalier or even the Carlton. Drove a lot of that range, and the one which stuck in my memory the most was the Carlton (2.0 injection of course). What was confusing was same sized engines, some good, some junk. Good 1.2 Nova 1.3 Astra 1.6 Cavalier 1.8 Astra 2.0 Carlton Not 1.2 Nova 1.3 Nova 1.6 Astra late 1.8 Carlton 2.5 Senator (similar shell 2.5 was gutless)
  5. They are thanks Some I already knew but some new info on details.
  6. Another reminder sent to Shawplan for 8 set of frames and 17 sets of Laseglaze Started on the 2 BFKs will take pictures but need to extract them from the telephone. Started with a paint strip of a badly painted Hornby BFK, my fault. The removal of the sides from the roof and end of the half BSO. I saw into the roof just above the strip and will file down. Corridor side first remove 4mm between guards door and window 1, 4mm between the two windows and 8mm between window 2 and the double doors. Airfix plastic glues really well so already assembling. |D| |D| -4 [W] -4 [W] -8 |D|D|
  7. You could had a free small toenail! One of mine keeps falling off!
  8. I dislike Facebook I hate the whole idea of it, the force fed sh1te. I avoid it as much as possible. I only have an account because my wife made one to get extra rubbish in a game. For years it lived as 127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com in HOSTS Also you will miss seeing my 119 DMU when complete! Need to stay here with me and Signaller69 to compare DMUs
  9. Was watching News24 when sport came on, was interviewing a footballist sitting between two A1A labels. Brush 2 / Class 31 time! A1A A1A Pretty sure they was not an NBL Warship so must be a Brush Type 2
  10. The Western region used quite a few RBR(RU) the W19xx stock, mine is Comet over Lima. The RB was also the best Mark 1 model prior to Bachmann flush glazed stuff.
  11. I have been researching air con sets and found that few are uniform. A set with 2C BSO 2D TSOT BFK 2E TSOs 2F FOs A set with GUV 2F/E/D TSOs coupled next to each other 2D and 2A BFK More 2EF TSO 2E FO 1 RB(R) ER Set with a mix including 2A BSOs and the Airfix TSO On the Western Region 2C BSOs were normally on Aircon sets Seen 2B running with 2E and the Lima RB as well, I laughed at that one!
  12. You are missing the Swindon or Gloucester Cross Country DMU
  13. Only way to accurately model a BR buffet or restaurant is to find a picture of your exact vehicle. Ended up having to fill the extra window on my refurbished RU, dismantled then soldered some brass behind the removed windows.
  14. Best British express locos? You could argue which one, but you cannot argue against many of them being among the best in the world. A number of 100mph Pacifics including the record holder, and a loco which astounded the Americans. A few smaller locomotives still capable of high speeds, and good performance. Worlds most powerful Diesel from 55 to 63 (I think). Worlds fastest Diesel, also with still good looking styling. We even have bonkers 3rd rail EMUs.
  15. I think it was based on the GWR 9" bogie, which did ride OK, so not sure how they ruined it.
  16. Missed this thread. The 1Co1 Diesel The steam electric Both appeal to me
  17. I had the bowel screening. I was inflated, camera used, biopsy taken, farted a lot afterwards.
  18. I had one a couple of years ago due to a peeing issue. It just went away on its own or was it antibiotics, memory fails me.
  19. I will leave that to the scientists, I am in IT, this is something for people cleverer than me.
  20. If you copy the information out and type it in would that be OK?
  21. So it isn't very good then, misses quite a few and 75% negative. Need a more accurate test.
  22. He is local to me so is know. Seems a reasonable sort. (Someone I knew lodged in his house.) So out of interest what percentage of positives are false?
  23. Bunch of flowers or bottle of wine seem appropriate
