  1. Amusing coverage on East Midlands Today last night describing how HS2 would be on a huge viaduct across the M1 and pass Ratcliffe on Soar power station as if they were works of art. Tonight they revealed why it would not go through Derby, Nottingham or Leicester almost as if it was breaking news.
  2. Toton is petfectly logical unless you are the leader of Derby City Council who wants ths station there to the annoyance of Nottingham. Its a modern replication of Trent Junction which was built, the station that is, for exactly the same purpose. The plans make it clear that a train link will be made to Nottingham and Derby, and presumably Leicester.
  3. Its always been pronounced Toeton as far as I am aware, the missing e in its name is common to other places around Nottingham like Bas(e)ford.
  4. Talking on Look North Leeds the PM was asked why not start building from Leeds, this was dismissed as it was best to built the difficult (Chilterns) section first. Personally anything which reduces the time from Leeds to the Sheffield area from its present crawl should be built tomorrow.Meanwhile on East Midlands Today the focus homed in on the demolition of some Railway Cottages at Long Eaton, as many have noted the route making some use of the old GC its could be considered appropriaterevenge in destroying something Midland!
  5. Pat Hammond in his History books on Triang Hornby describes it as "generally agreed the model has the dated look of a Hull and Barnsley van."
  6. For some real madness on ebay do a search for Amazon vouchers, must buy some and put them on there!
  7. Its £94.45 for the SECR one. At least it proves they are still out there, there is always a mass panic when the big box shifters sell out yet you can find them in other places. Bit like the Hornby Parcels van that started to go up in price on ebay whilst they were sat on the shelves at full rrp in Modelzones.
  8. Unique in Hornbyland probably means a 6 pin decoder, if it a truely unique decoder, and socket, then theres always the solution of ripping out all the existing wiring and hard wiring a decoder in place.
  9. Thanks for the replies, I think the joiners are capable of being insulated as the PL112 has a fiddly metal strip insert to make it non-insulated and the PL-113 has a wire link between the rail sections that can be cut. Think I might be able to get anway with dead frog one having given it more thought over what is going to pass over it. As for knowing which way its set I am thinking of having a couple of yard lights which whether lit or not would indicate which way the slip is set.
  10. Whilst the electrofrog one is only available in code 75 is there any problems using it with code 100 with the PL-112 75 to 100 joiners or the PL-113 75 to 100 rail sections?
  11. Try looking for a smartphone on ebay and you will find a numbers of phone cases beings sold at the price you might pay for the phone!
  12. Agreed, its a typical Bachmann misting of the underframe and lower bodysids although with added chalk markings
  13. SR weathered green example arrived this am as well as a certain D11
  14. Another overuse of "professional" can be found if you search for that word and skaledale together!
  15. Seems that kit built is used a lot on ebay for a rtr model that has had some details added to it, like the snow ploughs on gostudes 156. An annoyance like code 3.
  16. Had some good luck recently with BINs featuring unused (and they do seem to be that) locos at prices incl P&P less than what they are going for on auction - just seen exactly the same loco with damage sell for six quid more than I paid for a mint one.
  17. Having acquired a second example I found a normal sized decoder (a Lenz standard) will fit on its side in the plastic recess motor side of the socket, with the wiring end of the decoder towards the motor any excess wire length can be wrapped up in the recess. There was no need to undo the speedo cable as it is all part of the chassis and the pipework on the firemans side easilly unplugged from the body. My other one now has the same decoder in it freeing up a DP2X-UK for something less spacious.
  18. At first I thought they had such a lot to despatch that explained the wait for delivery but looking on Ebay they are advertising an overly expensive Baccy 03 as being delivered by next Wednesday so it seems they are just sending out the horse boxes with little urgency.
  19. Got a Hornby M7 for £35 Inc postage - it had been renumbered as a Caley Tank but a quick few wipes with a white household stain remover block restored it virtually it to its original condition, rubbed a bit too hard in one part and removed most of one of the original numbers but it got renumbered anyway. It also needs a new dome as the original had been filed down but that is all of £2.50 from 247 Developments. Late edit, that dome is too tall , but found out that Craftsman do a Drummond M7, T1 dome
  20. Cambrian have a kit proposed "one day by an LSWR "New" Brake van to D1543" http://www.cambrianmodels.co.uk/srwagons.html
  21. Noticed that despite the comments on the web page they have set up on-line ordering through the web site with P&P from £4.50
  22. I found that out whilst weathering mine - pretty awkward moment and the whole is now glued together.
  23. Fit okay the otherway i.e. with the trapeze parts nearer the axle. So what is the right way? One thing to watch before fitting them is whether the NEM coupling mounts have been screwed on at right angles to the buffer beam, one on mine was definately not. Would not a vac pipe have got in the way of the couplings?
  24. Which is why I was asking -if they are going to charge £8 for one I might as well drive to them as it will be fair chunk of the petrol costs.
