  1. There is still the issue of supression capacitors unless decoders are designed to work perfectly well with the caps still in place. Have to agree that with dmus and large diesels there is no really logical reason why models today could not be designed with a bottom accessible socket and housing for the decoder other than someone will complain about the butchered underframe that is not readily visible. The Real Track Pacer is an obvious example where things could have been a whole lot simpler
  2. Kernow are listing the green ones as being in stock, no doubt other box shifters will follow suit in the next day or two.
  3. The interesting thing is that the Hornby price has fallen back to £74.99 for the yet to be released R4534C. Hornby do tend to keep the original listed price for delayed items which means some big differences can occur with fully lined out locos cheaper than plain black ones and around £3 difference for a wagon in a different livery
  4. Its slightly surprising no one thought to rebuild one, how might it have performed on a pair of Crab or Staniet Mogul chassis. Presumably their was simply no need but just think what Edward Thompson or Bulleid might have done!
  5. That was Sherwood Depot Still also in use is the Trent Bridge Depot https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Bunbury+Street,+Nottingham&aq=0&oq=bunbury+strreet&sll=52.938345,-1.140797&sspn=0.007927,0.021136&vpsrc=0&gl=uk&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Bunbury+St,+Nottingham,+United+Kingdom&ll=52.938345,-1.140797&spn=0.007876,0.021136&t=m&z=16&layer=c&cbll=52.938623,-1.141109&panoid=ZpqsiH-oDe11iD8U3Co6fg&cbp=12,202.14,,0,0
  6. There is however a capacitor buried below the motor and if you are in habit of removing those when fitting a decoder its simpler to remove all the existing wiring and hard wire a suitable decoder in place.
  7. The Triang Rocket is more an impression than an accurate model dimensionally and it should be obvious whether its a copy of that or the Airfix kit. Always thought it would be a good one for a new NRM limited edition particularly given the working Rocket replica gives an excuse for it to appear on a modern layout shuttling back and forth on a public accessed siding.
  8. List of the first 20 taken from another forum so hopefully correct 1. Mallard 2. Coronation 3. Flying Scotsman 4. 28xx 5. Stowe 'Schools’ Class 6. ‘Deltics’ 7. Evening Star 8. No. 44781 ‘Black Five' 9. City of Truro 10. Gresley ‘K3’ 11. Bulleid ‘West Country’ unrebuilt 12. Fowler 3F ‘Jinty’ 13. Collett ‘Castle’ 14. No. 1000 ‘Compound' 15. BR standard ‘4MT’ tank 16. Locomotion 17. Sulzer ‘Peaks’ 18. Butler Henderson 19. 45xx 20. 'T9’ Locomotion stands out as the only one not obviously a copy.
  9. Picked up one today and failed to notice the chimney was on backwards! Easilly unclipped and glued back the right way round. Tooling issues are presumably the same as the Hatchette Mk1, a huge production run equating out the costs.
  10. Does no one else find it takes Hattons five days at least to pack an order, they are always one of the the slowest in my experience.
  11. The new Heljan 33 in its original condition was rated as 87% by Model Rail, 9s for looks performance and decoration, 8s for features and value for money - being their own limited edition one the vfm rating would be pretty fixed although on the main batch the vfm presumably will go up the greater discount its sold at. Note (9x3 + 8x2)/5 is 8.6 (86%) while ignoring the vfm category gives the model 87.5%.
  12. They always look whether the track is in sight or not, one of my earliest railway memories are the signals guarding the exit from the GNs LeenValley Extension at Leen Valley Junction with the, presumably very rusty, track out of sight at the bottom of the cutting. It. makes a nice lunchtime just to hear the clunk of the local outer home to know whatever problems are rail network is in there are still some good features.
  13. Putting together a Branchlines chassis compared to using the Bachmann chassis is a significantly different challennge and I suspect some who might be put off building the chassis kit would go for a simpler solution, particularly if the outside valve gear was to be simple to add, for example as with the GEM 009 Bagnall 0-6-0ST.
  14. 31-150 Jubliee Silver Jubliee was a split chassis model not current version so its possible they may release it again as it would not be the exact same model as before.
  15. The Junior 0-6-0 chassis that comes with the 0-6-0 saddle tank (for example Greg), and I think its the same one with the diesel, is roughly about right (with the obvious exception of being inside cylinder) for a North London Tank. I make it about 0.5mm too big in wheel diameter (4'6" compared to 4'4") and the wheelbase appears to be 5'9"+5'9" while the NLR tank is 5'8"+5'8". Drawings of the NLR tank are on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/metrailway/8245782886/sizes/o/in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/metrailway/8244715397/sizes/o/in/photostream/ The Thomas/Stuart 0-6-0 chassis appears to be 5'3"+5'3" again with 4'6" wheels which to be rarer combination.
  16. Hopefully wrong, but I suspect the Ambulance train and Railway Children sets will make use of the LMS coaches rather than any new tooling. The Thames Clyde Express is an interesting combination, is it possible that by the time those coaches were introduced (1926?) some compounds might have still have been in MR livery if not 1000 itself.
  17. Heres your answerhttp://www.kernowmodelrailcentre.com/product/42340/30048_Bachmann_Highlan_Tourer_Digital_Sound_Train_Set
  18. The postal issue has been resolved on the Bachmann US web site with it quoting 12.16USD postage to the UK. As the 0-6-0ST.wheelset is 12.50USD I ordered two sets of them which on my credit card has equated to £23.34, one wheelset would presumably have come out around £15.50. Delivery took 9 days, only a couple of days slower than it takes Hattons to get an order across the Pennines.
  19. Antics are offering the GW green one with the decoder removed for £110 http://www.anticsonline.co.uk/750_1.html
  20. Any 0-6-0s in mind for the Bachmann Junior/Thomas 0-6-0 chassis?
  21. At last, around 5 hours under a week from the time of ordering and postie turned up with a big brown box. Presently around half way running in 9017 on an oval of Kato Unitrack on the floor around the coffee table. Appears that all the bits are where they should be.
  22. And yet for a simple trip across the Pennines it will now be at least into the fifth day from ordering before mine turns up.
  23. Theres also Frizinghall at Bradford, Pennine at Haworth and Craven at Skipton. On the other hand a visit to Frizinghall and Milleniumn yesterday resulted in nothing being purchased and resort to the www back home as the particular items I was after were not to be found. Did not notice any Dukedogs but I had already ordered one from Hattons as part of a bigger order, when will it arrive I wonder as a week in good for them in my experience, I think there must still be some war of the roses barrier in place.
  24. Finding a local model shop is increasingly difficult for many and one that actually tests locos is even rarer. Not testing is however understandable given the problems imposed by some of Hornbys crazy packaging and Dapols rock solid grease, I was quite shocked when a shop that tested locos as a matter of course just thrust a 14xx in my hand with no suggestion of it being test run.
  25. It is normal practise to have intended routes, be it road or rail, to be safeguarded and any planning application within the safeguarded area at least notified to the relevant bodies and in all likelihood referred to Central Government. On the subject of tin pot councils the biggest (by area) and certaintly the tinnest and pottiest of the lot, North Yorkshire have thrown their weight, all half a kilo of it, around getting the Yorkshire to Birmingham bit built first. So for the first and quite possibly last time they have actually come up with a good suggestion as anyone who suffers the present slow slow journey, and even slower if its via Barnsley, knows.
