  1. Easy! Even at the ripe old age of 35yrs, ML2341 was noted touching 70 and that with a 4speed box and 'only' an O.600 engine Just following on with the 'M' depot code, it was later used by Thornliebank depot - not an 'M' in sight.
  2. If I'd not been 'sans tinterweb' (or indeed away from home) yesterday I could have dug out a pic of the one that was (is?) at Middleton Railway, had the pleasure of a trip behind it some years ago.
  3. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152616338452?ul_ref=http%253A%252F%252Frover.ebay.com%252Frover%252F0%252Fe11021.m43.l1120%252F7%253Feuid%253D773848223f954d0da937e73448a63b2e%2526bu%253D42953316607%2526loc%253Dhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.ebay.co.uk%25252Fulk%25252Fitm%25252F152616338452%2526sojTags%253Dbu%253Dbu%2526srcrot%253De11021.m43.l1120%2526rvr_id%253D0&ul_noapp=true "The more I'm writing about it..the more I want to keep it !!" At that price, I wouldn't be worrying too much if I was the seller. IMHO, it's not even that well put together.
  4. The CVR, inadvertently, won out due to an 'adequate sufficiency' of ale on Friday (cos we arrived early to plan) leaving me taking the decision not to drive early Saturday morning, just in case. From the pics and posts it seems like a good time was had by all; well done to all involved. ps Andy (wagonbasher) it was sunny too!
  5. Are those wheelsets to a different design to Bachmann's current ones - they look to be a shouldered plastic axle with metal wheels fitted?
  6. I had this recommended to me - not used it myself as yet, but the chap who recommended it said that he has some printed buildings 'protected' for over 7 yrs without noticeable fading. https://www.mediarange.de/en/products/packaging_accessories/accessories/index.pmode/modul,detail,131/index.pmode The website above makes the claim: "Permanently preserves your images without fading" Must be good then
  7. I'm supposed camping there both Fri and Sat, but it's further from there to Gnosall than it is from Home to Gnosall. So perhaps I should go to Gnosall first off and then set up camp at CVR Saturday afternoon...... And I have a £1 off voucher for the show...... The burden of first world problems
  8. I have a dilemma: Churnet Valley Railway beer festival or this train thingy......
  9. By way of an example, in response to post above, from tinterweb: http://www.train-photos.co.uk/ssp_director/p.php?a=ICoiMSFVZXZzVU9tfWdgeHZvZFh+ZHhpdFlreF1hbnJ8TTMgOj4rNyRhcnQoMjwuMiM3JT06Mis2JTg3PjY5JyItJjonIyg+Jzs/NTE7&m=1344607604
  10. I'm going with jbqfc's next - a) because it was first (just) and b) cos I have a pic Coincidentally also at Doncaster. Next, let's stay at Doncaster and have an ex works loco on the works transfer headshunt?
  11. I echo wot they've ^^^ said; following it too.
  12. Which was obviously styled on this: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/e7/04/71/e70471c949c2debd7c9c4ab21ab17467.jpg
  13. We need to be careful about only using the term 'brake' as there are both locomotive brakes and train brakes. The operation of each and the terms air and vacuum have specific meaning in each case.
  14. Awwww! I could've posted a 'this weekend' pic It ain't so often 'I'm down wiv the kids and kickin the scene'
  15. Strange that! Whenever I see your username as the most recent in this topic, I've come to expect that the next words will at least include 'Portescap' or 'RG4'
  16. Thanks for quoting 'The Manual'; still can't find mine - it's no doubt somewhere safe.....
  17. Even for our favourite seller, this really is the triumph of hope over experience! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LIMA-5630-KIT-BUILT-BR-BLUE-CLASS-26-LOCO-26024-REPAINTED-DETAILED-mv-/331068956471?hash=item4d153f5f37:g:R9MAAOSwYlJW225s
  18. One used to be able to observe that M.O. from behind the driver's cab of a first generation DMU, but the vacuum brakes on those were directly operated and not by proportional air control. Anyway, that's leading us a bit
  19. Not sure what you mean? Yes, I know they were indeed used to increase brake force hence my reference to unfitted freights. The tenders themselves were vacuum braked, ergo the additional brake force can only come directly from the locomotive controlled vacuum brake (on the brake tender) {sic} There's another topic here too: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/115616-steam-and-diesel-vacuum-brake-operation/
  20. That, I could sort of understand, but PET bottle tops; just weird.
