  1. Not sure what you mean? Yes, I know they were indeed used to increase brake force hence my reference to unfitted freights. The tenders themselves were vacuum braked, ergo the additional brake force can only come directly from the locomotive controlled vacuum brake (on the brake tender) {sic} There's another topic here too: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/115616-steam-and-diesel-vacuum-brake-operation/
  2. That, I could sort of understand, but PET bottle tops; just weird.
  3. Not model trains; but why on earth..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pre-Owned-42-Green-Milk-Carton-Tops-/182599786249?hash=item2a83cb9f09:g:H6IAAOSww9xZBuyI
  4. Hence the need for these: https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http%3A%2F%2Fpaulbartlett.zenfolio.com%2Fimg%2Fs1%2Fv20%2Fp1011465871-3.jpg&imgrefurl=http%3A%2F%2Fpaulbartlett.zenfolio.com%2Fbraketender&docid=kPtGiGolQMv9nM&tbnid=jhnToAor_gOokM%3A&vet=10ahUKEwjX_MX-yuTUAhUFPFAKHb7fDLsQMwgvKAAwAA..i&w=580&h=289&client=tablet-android-pega&bih=600&biw=960&q=diesel%20brake%20tender&ved=0ahUKEwjX_MX-yuTUAhUFPFAKHb7fDLsQMwgvKAAwAA&iact=mrc&uact=8 In an era of largely unfitted freight traffic. Though why this one's being used on this train I'm uncertain: http://www.davidheyscollection.com/userimages/000-0-a-t-ermel-Type2-4.jpg
  5. Unusual to have unpainted windscreen surrounds too!
  6. Berlin S-Bahn, Akexanderplatz IIRC Next, same but overhead electric?
  7. The readily available (secondhand) book Diesel Traction for Enginemen https://pictures.abebooks.com/BOOKSANDINK/md/md19699129150.jpg probably gives you what you're seeking (and more), don't have my copy to hand to be certain though.
  8. That explains it much better; I'll take the 'hit' on BoT then
  9. Thanks for the pics as ever! Regarding your car incident, I'm afraid it's a direct outcome of the American import; where there's blain there's a claim, even when it's obviously the aggrieved person's fault
  10. I was making the association between Burton and Trent, both railway stations in their own right, albeit Trent is now only a junction. The (river) Trent connects them both.
  11. Will (departing Southbound) from Burton 'ON' Trent do? If so then how about a place with 'under' as a linking part of the name?
  12. Good idea, but, the OP doesn't say what sound clip should play when a wheel is detected - it could be the squawk of seagull for all we know. Off and runnin'..........
  13. Looking forward to a trip to Sheffield tomorrow, visits to some real ale outlets is definitely on the cards. If I remember, I'll post 'live' pics
  14. I'm guessing that 'an' should actually read 'and' (or at least an') but I'm having difficulty determining what word should be between 'why' and 'did' in your second sentence.
  15. Not quite current, but very soon to be a Gordon's premixed G&T currently on offer in ASDA at £10 for 10. Yeah, I know it'd be cheaper to buy the makings but I just couldn't be @rsed
  16. Though I've agreed with your post, not all are bad. I've found these to be consistently good: The Babington Arms; Derby The Felix Holt; Nuneaton The Booking Office; Edinburgh Waverley The Counting House; Glasgow But equally, The Bear and Ragged Staff in Bedworth is probably the worst I've EVER visited. Anyway, s'pose we'd better get back on topic.....
  17. IIRC the paint was actually grey rather than silver though some cars were unpainted aluminium when the switch was made from steel construction. Initial batches were red.
  18. Depends what you mean by 'decent buses', IMHO whilst I'm not a fan of the Leyland National aesthetic or its 510 engine, one can't deny that they were built like tanks seemed to get everywhere, especially after deregulation, so as a vehicle they can't have been that bad?
  19. A big square pane of glass with an LT 'No Smoking' roundel from a CO/CP underground train.
  20. Is not so much the container, more (the quality of) the contents that distinguishes between Keg and Cask
