  1. I started, some tears ago, to improve this model, albeit to BR green, the Airfix tender is a vast improvement on the Hornby effort which is a work of fiction, I think it was the same as the compound. But to me the locomotive's worst feature is the chimney Hornby's interpretation is nothing like the real thing, given what you have achieved with your model, which really looks great, I would substitute that chimney. Rgds......Mike
  2. Agree, this looks to be one magnificent layout but of course I can't pass judgment until I see it in the flesh when it comes to Adelaide( I tried this this with the Hills of the North Layout ) oh well I can but dream Wonderful stuff Les and your group. Merry Wotsit Rgds........Mike
  3. Same here, dad set it up on the front room table(just fitted!) I set it going at a speed that would have left Mallard for dead!!. Yep, you guessed it, never quite never quite made the curve and hit the floor with an almighty crunch which snapped of the rear buffer beam.............stuffed my Christmas Mike
  4. Are you sure they weren't pushing it!!
  5. Last month i took my little girl out for wees and poos (she's my puppy) .........lights close by in the next paddock(new up in the air my wife said it's a drone) imaybe 30 metres away but heading towards my place . Went back to the house and grabbed my 303, yelled out what the fxxxx going on and let fly wiy6h a couple of blanks(usually kept for scaring skippies)..................nothing since Mike
  6. I have two 28's.....very good models. Agree absolutely...........waste of resource Mike
  7. "This one seems to be a bit of a recurring theme right through the thread, and I'd agree it's a bit of a no-brainer for Hornby-with the Coronation redone in both unstreamlined and 'bathtub' versions, I'd be amazed if the Princess doesn't follow sometimes in the next year or two- it holds a pretty iconic place in the history of the Hornby range, right back to Horny O-gauge in the 30's, and the roots of Triang in OO, and Hornby do like their big express locos. Lots of differences between the first two prototypes and the production batch..........for such a small class they are an absolute minefield in terms of detail. Mike
  8. I have couple of Metrovicks, they are great models no need for more duplication Mike

Welcome Tim, agree with your comments, I left the UK in 1971, with some sadness but it was the right thing to do for me...........anyway truckloads of good stuff on here. Mike
  12. I have an Ultrascale kit to convert the Dapol Pug to EM gauge, anyone on here know whether this would be suitable for the Honrby release, I realise they are pretty much one and the same externally but am curious about the gearing. Rgds.........Mike
  13. Ithink I would have asked the Dublin Blonde to come back after I had eaten!! Mike
  14. I have eight steam outline locos by Mainline, none of which had been run for well over thirty-five years until today, so far I have tested five of them, four of which performed faultlessly, the other tended to be a little inconsistent in its speed. There is one rebuilt Patriot, the rest are Jubilees, I want to offload these on the Bay but not sure how to list them(good runners or spares and repairs). I am aware of the issues with this brand having experienced the usual failure with a Standard 4 and aGWR Mogul.. Any advice would be appreciated(also a fair price).
  15. Can't remember when I received my J94, it is early BR 68023. It's a beautiful looking little model but until today it hadn't been run so i put on the rolling road....................runs like dream, that quiet I forgot it was running...well pleased. Thanks Dave, great model......I still think you should do a LMS Kitson saddle tank Mike
  16. MMMMMMMMMMM!!!!! egg and chips, better half thinks E & C is odd but when she goes over to her mums for the weekend, that's what I have........love it. Mike
  17. A very interesting thread.......Thanks to all concerned. Mike
  18. I have had some interesting observances of Wedgetail Eagles,I see quite a few where I live: 1) Driving along James Track, the "road" on which I live a Wedgie flew into a gap in the canopy of trees over the road and was unable to fly out, I followed it for close on a Kilometre until the next gap appeared when it flew off..........an incredible experience! 2} Again driving along another road in the district one flying fairly low passed in front of my vehicle, it had in its talons a kangaroo, poor kanga! but that's nature I guess. 3) Standing on the top balcony of our place(we live on very steep property) I looked down onto the neighbours paddock and saw a pair of wedgies working for their prey, there was mum kanga and her joey grazing near a large tree. One of the Wedgies was perched in the tree whilst the other flew around mum kanga and proceeded to annoy and distract her attention. In the meantime the joey had wandered a little too far from mum, the second Wedgie then flew down and took the joey. They are incredible birds, an ornithologist has observed the same pair nesting in the same location(Eaglehawk Gully) for close on thirty years. Mike
  19. So did I, what school did you go to? Mike
