  1. The good thing is, our Polling Station is about two minutes walk from the Smiling Samoyed Brewery in Myponga, just sit there and forget the politics , look at the views across the Lovely Valley reservoir, watch the kangas and partake of their superb beers, Then sneak quietly home via the back track.no traffic or Mr. Plod there!!. not that we over indulge though Mike
  2. A certain OZ ex-PM would not understand this!!! Mike
  3. "This article some may find disturbing, but it is very important to the protection of native species. Australia has millions of feral cats and they are devastating to other wildlife.https://www.theage.com.au/national/bullets-baits-killer-robots-feral-felines-in-the-firing-line-20190508-p51l4t.html" We had a ginger and white one on on our property a few years ago, whenever I spotted him, he was gone before I got the 303 out of the safe.......except for once, I was out looking for a couple of foxes I had seen a couple of hours before, came round one of the Protea bushes and there he was about 20 metres away. Anyway he was quickly humanely dispatched.....................one out of all of the countless cats that abound in Oz. Maybe if all these vermin control deniers could see the incidence of native kill I see on my small place(7 acres), they might rethink. Mike

What about 35 hours.........gotta be better than the present incumbent!! Mike
  5. I think the dates maybe a little confused but what the heck, the quality of the video is generally so much better than normally what's on offer..........thanks for posting. Rgds.........Mike
  6. Been drinking Coopers Paleys for years, straight from the stubby, never rolling or pouring carefully. Never had a case of the Jimmy Brits despite devouring every drop in the bottle luvvly stuff!! Mike...(hic!!)
  7. And Derby, I remember the Dandelion & Burdock being particularly good, very tasty and black(looked a bit like the Mackeson my Great Aunt used to drink) very grown up, I was around five or six when first sampled. Mike
  8. This thread should be pinned, it's evil,terrible......shocking!!!!. It tells me that I am nearly 73 and will never achieve what these masters of their craft have done. Their work has been and still is an inspiration to all of us, the old RM, MRC and their latter spawnings like MRJ, Model Rail, BRM etc. etc. etc.. I feel , through the pages of these mags. we have been able to view the best of our hobby, long may we be able to appreciate the craftsmanship illustrated, . Mike
  9. I have an H&M Duette (had it years) anyway I bought a Bachmann Jinty a couple of years ago and thought thought I would test it, out came the Duette put the Jinty on a metre of flexi..........Ferrari would have been mightily impressed even on the lowest setting it flew!! Fortunately being an ex goalkeeper, I caught the thing before it hit the deck....no damage!!.Just for testing on the rolling road I find the Bachmann 5 perfect, it copes with old and new motors adequately.
  10. Happened to me a couple of years ago I won an auction from a guy in the States for a Bachmann NRM Midland Compound, I think for about fifty pounds, anyway auction ended, I sent payment only to be advised about three weeks later that he had changed his mind and gave me full refund. I guess the price didn't meet his expectation. Haven't had much luck with MR Compounds, after having one split from a set arrive with lots of broken bits, retailer did not reply to my email, as I really wanted one of these, I ended up paying around two hundred quid from Olivia's but it did arrive in perfect condition. Mike
  11. `Haven't looked in at this one for a while, but just did and have to say it looks really good: exudes atmosphere..........great modelling Mark Rgds........Mike
  12. Yup, the huge rumour is that the next model is an ex-LMS loco...............I know, I just started it!!.Can't wait for my Deltic, small box please so I can sneak it past SWMBO. Mike
  13. Hi Ian, Have a look on the Heljan Beyer Garratt Thread specifically at the postings by 46256 in early June 2017 where the Heljan chassis was replaced by 2 Comet Fowler 2-6-4 items, High Level Gear boxes and Mashima motors. I think you may find some useful info there. Rgds....Mike
  14. Joke of the Week Back in the 1980s, Spanish singer Julio Iglesias was on UK television with British TV host Anne Diamond. He used the word mañana. Diamond asked him to explain what it meant. He said the term means: “Maybe the job will be done tomorrow; maybe the next day; maybe the day after that, or perhaps next week, next month, next year. Who really cares?” The host turned to other guest on the show, Australian country singer, Mudruck Flatlands. She asked him if there was an equivalent term in his home country. “Nah,” he replied. “In Australia, we don't have a word to describe that degree of urgency.” Mike
  15. Lovely model...........just as I remember the Scots
  16. Yes, I am one of them.............my recommended deaf aids cost over $7000.00, just a bit beyond me so subbies really help me enjoy things. Mike
  17. Agree entirely, I could never seem to manage the separate Blog area(due to being thick, Is'pose), so to include them in the "View new Content" area is a real bonus for me....means I don't miss absolute gems like this. Big plus for the new system. Rgds..........Mike
  18. Agree, common sense, reason and discretionary thinking have gone out of the window. Without knowing the actual situation in the U.K. now, it seems amazing that the Guard or whatever it's called these days wouldn't have some means of connecting to the Company's database and verifying the gentleman's claim, surely an identity check is fairly simple now, (drivers licence, credit/pension card etc.), key in the details and Hey Presto--result!!............the mind boggles at what we've become. Mike
  19. Yes it reminds me of a photo in a book I have of a Coronation Pacific being piloted by a 2P 4-4-0 about to head North out from Crewe........whoever wrote the caption reckoned the Pacific would be pushing the 2P as well as hauling the train before too long. Rgds.........Mike(Wonderful modelling by the way)
  20. There are mate, I've been a member of two for a long time...........buddy they don't hold a candle to this one, so perhaps you should try them, you'll soon be back!! Mike
  21. I like what I've seen so far,so well done Andy and same to all who helped, sounds like it's been a long and arduous journey. Can't believe though, some of the impatience displayed by some!! Surely just hold back and I have no doubt it will all be good in a week or so and a couple of weeks later the old site will become a distant memory. Rgds.........Mike
  22. Do what I had to do................get your teeth out and get dentures, I lost 10% of my body weight in 4 weeks and have still not stabilised (with in a year). Only kidding of course but 40 years of smoking ( I haven't for the last 17 years) destroyed my mouth to my eternal regret. Now I just cannot enjoy eating with these great lumps of plastic intruding into my mouth, I tend to exist on liquids these days. Mike
  23. Just received my Montrose absolutely beautiful model runs like a dream on the rolling road, BUT that stupid little plastic lug that is supposed to hold the body on to the chassis was in the bottom of the box and when i took the model from the packaging the front end just hung in mid-air, without going through 86 posts , did anyone find a solution to this issue......glue won't work and I really don't want to go through the hassle of returning the loco to the UK. Hattons have offered to replace it but I think I'sley that you and and your team have to re-think this aspect of the design of this model, it isn't robust enough for its purpose. I have SWS which at present if fine but I hate to think what might occur when I have to take the body on the occasions it needs to be serviced.I am in the market for every Duchess and Princess you produce(post 1955)please do do something about what is otherwise a superb RTR model. MIKE

    Class 85

Was it really a poor seller?.........just asking as I really don't know. It certainly is a stunning model, I procrastinated and missed on the Electric blue one with no yellow panels last time but have now ordered the 2019 release. Mike
