  1. British Railway Modelling, November 1996 has an article entitled "Lowfit Lowdown" detailing the construction / bashing of various 4mm scale 'Lowfit' models. . Brian R
  2. Get yourself a copy of Model Railway Constructor, February 1987. . Within it's pages there lurks a 'Datafile' article by Paul Bartlett & Trevor Mann. . It contains all you need to know about BR built 'Lowfits' . Brian R
  3. The prototype "Cow Dorning" complex will be a new housing estate or themem park by then....................
  4. 65% possession to our 35% . 9 corners to our 1 . No goals to our 1 .
  5. . Growing up in our street (Ely, Cardiff early 1960s) almost every street lamp looked like this, and the majority had a discarded bicycle tyre thrown over the lamp and somehow trapped on the cross bar(s). . Brian R
  6. As for the 'rat' in the background, Ebbw Jct had 5179-5182 at this time, and they matched those bodyside grilles, as well as 7569 & 7588 elsewhere around the WR. . Brian R
  7. Phil. I've been following this FB Group for some time, there are some gems appearing from time to time.. . Brian R
  8. Stone wall in the background is still there (well it was at 9:00am this morning !!) - but trackside there is a lot more greenery and such a shot would no longer be possible. . Nice horsebox as well. . Thanks Gareth Brian R
  9. As a teenager it was my daily task to "lay" my grandmothers fire, cleaning out the previous days ash, then use kindling, newspaper and coal. . I'm sure using a tablet, X-Box or smart phone is more interesting to today's teenagers. . Brian R
  10. Nice ones Neil. . The Warship photo strikes me as being taken at Bristol Bath Road. . As for the Hymek - 8A39 (IIRC) was a Jersey Marine - Acton or West Drayton service; I'll check my notes. . Brian R
  11. Was impressed with the layout progress Saturday evening brother - and thank you both for popping the champagne to celebrate the arrival of Patrick Brian.
  12. Brian hit the nail on the head in his post above, 'Falcon' was restricted in its' sphere of operations on trip workings between Alexandra Dock Junction Yard, East Usk Junction Yard (from where it apparently made the rare foray along the Uskmouth Branch) and BSC Llanwern. . There are photos on a website (search on:- "Quiet Womans Row " - but the site is a pig to navigate) of "Falcon" on the line to Newport Dock St. etc in 1973. . Occasionally "Falcon" got to Ebbw Vale, the attached is probably its claim to fame in the area, when in 1973 a Cl.37 ran away at Marine Colliery, Cwm, Ebbw Vale. . The errant 37 was left teetering over the river bank for months whilst the authorities figured out a way to recover it - which they did by laying a wooden roadway, then using 'Kelbus' gear ( powerful block tackle gear) they hauled the 37 up the embankment using a pair of 47s and "Falcon". The loco was then re-righted and re-railed. . Brian R . PS original photographer unknown
  13. "Musketeer" on an up working at Reading, 1974 or 1975. . Brian R
  14. One from my 'Instamatic' days. . I seem to recall it may be D7090 on a Cardiff - Pompey working in 1972. . Brian R
  15. I can still smell the oil, hear the tick, tick from the 'six-eighters' and the only other sound is my feet on the ballast............... can it be a Sunday morning, almost fifty years ago ? . Thanks again Gareth. . Brian R
  16. Good girl ! I've been lucky to have travelled the world, but there's only one city for me, my home town. . Brian R
  17. Friday 13th. February, 1987 . Clapham Jct. West of England sets 47598+18779+18763+18770+4961+13342+35472 & 50023+5256+5436+6503+17081+17073+5435+5261 . Other loco hauled workings that afternoon included:- 33046+3918+3746+4376+13389+3991+5366+3848 33027+3748+34642+13492+4055+93742 . 33118+8004 (‘Kenny Belle’) . 73114+DS70155 73135+2804+8022 33107+8031, later returning as 33107+8031+7332+7714 And, the following GatEx combos:- 73111+8209+8311+9104 73130+8309+8210+9101 73141+8305+8207+9109 73105+8314+8203+9107 73123+8206+8317+9110 73136+8315+8202+9103 . 18. Here you are brother - a non-contentious photograph, of a train conveying containers to a location I cannot identify, for a company I cannot name.
  19. You really ought to post this image in the Overseas (Australian) Modelling section.
  20. Give us a ring sometime . Or better still, drop in when you're out and about - I'll put the kettle on. . Brian R
  21. Southbound (Cadoxton and Barry Docks) along the former Barry Railway main line at Ty'n Y Caeau Jct. . The last major confrontation of the 'English Civil War' namely the Battle of St.Fagans took place (in part) in the field to the right on 8th. May, 1648. The field now forms part of the Museum of Welsh Life. . Brian R
  22. Unfortunately, the only Derby Lightweights to reach South Wales were loaned temporarily (by Heaton ?) to Cathays for about a month or so circa 1959. . I don't know of any regular diagrams that took DMUs to Talyllyn Jct. - the climbs either way to Torpantau would have taken its toll on any units travelling from Merthyr and the valleys. . Don't know about BR Class 2 2-6-2Ts 84xxx and ex-GWR 56xx - but you could also add an ex-LYR 0-6-0 as a few were working trains off Hereford in the 1950s. I have a couple of photos showing a an English Electric Type 3 (Cl.37) on the B & M at Dolygaer and emerging from Torpantau tunnel so there's something else to consider (copyright issues may prevent my posting the photos here). But then, " Rule No.1 applies " - it's your layout. Brian R
  23. In my 'spotting' years it had to be either the Waterston - Albion tanks (as with Phil) or the Aberthaw - Purton PFA trains as they opened up through Cardiff. . Then, when I lived in Beddau, the workings around LLantrisant to Coed Ely, Cwm and Creigiau. In later years it had to be the triple headed Port Talbot - Llanwern iron ore trains. . But my abiding memory is of one service in particular, the 06:59 Rhymney - Radyr and the then Radyr - Canton ECS. The only loco hauled diagram that worked my local line, The City Line. . Brian R
  24. D9531 featured at an unknown location:- http://www.rcts.org.uk/features/mysteryphotos/show.htm?page=1&serial=17&img=WRD00468 . Brian R
