  1. At some point in the future I'll have a pair of blue 20's, a 26, 37 and 47/4 all sound fitted. Just need weathered up and the sound fitted. Might be persuaded to loan them and myself out. Hotel booked, advance tickets bought, just need to decide between the Friday and the Saturday - is one usually quieter than the other?
  2. Barter Books in Alnwick seem to take railway books and give reasonable credit notes, miles away from you though! Might be worth contacting them to see if they would be interested, not sure how you would get them up here as they'll be heavy to post though.
  3. Thought I'd resurrect this, as despite having nowhere to work I managed to do some modelling (on the kitchen bench of all places). IMG_0333 by N W, on Flickr Both were free kits with a railway modelling magazine. Just noticed I forgot to detail the upper floors of the shop despite changing the shop to be different from the two supplied options. I also put the sign on the weighbridge hut lower down than on the ridge and made a couple of brackets from scrap card as it looked better. Neither might make it onto a layout (weighbridge hut is too early in era anyway) but I learned a fair bit about card kits. One being it's very difficult to get a felt tip the right colour to match brickwork, as due to the kit being grey card all colours come out darker than expected.
  4. I'm surprised we still have a gap of no mk2 Transit. I could definitely use one or two.
  5. Sorry but no, a discussion on what does and does not constitute correct payment for an item is not related to bargains at all. It is a tenuous link at best. I don't have an issue with it being discussed here, but it isn't relevant. The posts on what Rails et al are offering are relevant as they are bargains, which I personally find very welcome. Sometimes someone will point out a little gem you yourself have overlooked. So I would encourage people to keep posting them please.
  6. Nope, waiting on refund, it says seller has contacted them to settle the case which is a bit odd. It'll be -6 once I have my refund. Got one from Hattons to make sure it came.
  7. Still no sign of mine, who/how can I get in touch with someone about it?
  8. Not sure what your experience is so far, but there's one unhappy customer left negative feedback. I tried to make contact for an eta last night so will wait till Monday before raising a case. Apologies for the non-bargain post.
  9. Thanks all, if BR wouldn't be moving them by road is there any possibility the preservation movement would?
  10. I was wondering if this ever happened, but more specifically in the mid-80's. The usual suspects draw a blank or pictures of complete locomotives. The sort of thing I have in my mind is for example a Sulzer 6LDA on a flatbed or low loader. Thanks.
  11. Was only 2 left after I bought mine, so enough of us willing to take a punt I guess as they went quick.
  12. F isn't looking likely so that leaves me a dilemma. Either get my RTC repainted Green, or hope someone who voted has changed their mind and try to pick up a second one on the 24th. RTC livery is correct for my era and location, just need the rest of the trib train.
  13. It's not storming off in a huff. My unusual entry somehow, and I will never understand how, caused one individual to make quite a lengthy post which declared they would not take part due to said entry. There was a degree of agreement with their posting, so it had obviously affected more than just the individual in a negative way. So I'm only doing what any decent person would, which is stop what I was doing that was causing people to get upset.
  14. As I notice Phil Parker has clicked the "agree" on your first post of the day today, I'll take that as my cue to "exit stage left" and take my unconventional ideas with me.
  15. As the only one talking about folding, this tirade must be aimed at me. Noone has forced or will force you to read my topic, if you don't like it, ignore it. To suggest I'm hijacking the competition in creating such an entry is simply inaccurate.
  16. I had worse than that once, sat in a line of traffic for maybe 10s as we crawled along at 5mph so hardly even pedalling. I'd taken the middle of the lane as there was no need for anyone to pass, as soon as we got moving I would move back across. Dressed in hi-viz. For no reason the car behind saw fit to pull alongside then force me to either get hit by the side of their car as they moved across or be forced into the kerb. Words of advice and "international sign language" were supplied, they drove off as if I still didn't exist! Then when I'm in the car or on the bike, my biggest bugbear is other cyclists behaving badly. I had a near miss head on with another cyclist as they cycled towards me on the wrong side of the road, I was astonished. Most of us ride responsibly, within the law and with a strong sense of self preservation, but sadly not all.
  17. For the track in my cakebox where I'm doing this, my current plan is a whole bunch of maths in excel with some trial and error. My tunnel walls will be 8cm high 00 brick paper, that I plan to get some clever software to skew/compress one upper corner down to 4cm high and hope all the courses follow throughout the image. I do have two defined points in the scene that are a given scale though, so for every mm you go back into the scene I know how much the scale changes by. Not sure any of that rambling helps really!
  18. Been doing some thinking, and maths. Tunnel refuges seem to be a minimum of 100yds apart or thereabouts. 100yds is 300ft, so even at n gauge that's 600mm. So I can forget about those and stick to plain walls. The distance between the ends of the tunnel is 160mm, going from 1:76 to 1:148. So every mm is a 0.45 change in gauge, or a decrease of 0.0125mm/ft. This is going to be key to working out the size and spacing of each sleeper, I feel an excel spreadsheet coming on (and a headache!)...
  19. I was genuinely considering a "jack-in-the-box" entry, for all of a few seconds
  20. A bit more mockup, which has shown this will be an exercise in mathematics! IMG_0257 by N W, on Flickr The track needs to start with 00, then finish as n gauge. So the rails get closer together, but also the sleepers get shorter and narrower. I'm going to pass on the rail section changing as that'd be too difficult. I also think the tunnel lining will be difficult enough using just 00 brick plasticard, nevermind trying to scribe in ever decreasing sizes. Then there's the recessed archways in the side of the tunnel, they'll get shorter, narrower and less deep the further into the tunnel they are. I'm thinking something or someone 00 at the tunnel mouth, the same mid distance in TT gauge then a road along the back with an n gauge road vehicle on. Also full height backscenes to the side and rear to try and force the viewer to look the "correct" way into the scene. I think I might have some brightly coloured card stashed away somewhere (bought as pack(s) for a job a long time ago requiring a certain colour) that I can see getting converted to templates. Going to be a fair bit of cutting and mocking up to get the dimensions correct!
  21. I avoid them like the plague, after the local delivery guy didn't leave my package and signed proof of delivery himself! Was a struggle to get reimbursed by the sender.
  22. Idea #2 as the first is controversial, this should definitely be allowable. Rough draft drawing: IMG_0254 by N W, on Flickr Basically, a hillside with tunnel mouth in it. I have two ideas for the tunnel: 1. Double track 00, brakevan on the appropriate track with tail lamp on. Fully detailed tunnel interior you'll be able to see if you shine a torch in. 2. Single track, try forced perspective with the rails going from 00 at the front, to N gauge at the back and an n gauge brakevan down there. Difficult to build the tunnel bore for this one though! If I have enough depth I might back the tunnel mouth off more from the front edge and put a p way crew there or something. Will attempt to paint the sides to look like layers of earth/rock etc. Next thing is to look at idea 2 for the tunnel to see if it's a goer or not.
  23. Not sure if this is allowed, but I have a D5000 I'm looking to move on if anyone is interested. Brand new unrun.
  24. Thanks, it will provide an interesting 3 dimensional puzzle to solve. I have been thinking about the contentiousness of the design, and provided the centre section stands alone with the hinged sides off it will always be able to comply with the rules. Need to cut some ply this weekend.
