  1. Had a good day out yesterday, pity I couldn't have gone back today as there was plenty to see. Thorne Yard and Kirkmellington stood out for me.
  2. I have cycling insurance and as a result also a British Cycling race licence - which I'll never use as I'm happy commuting not competing. The odds are the person responsible is licensed and insured. There's no excuse for that incident and whoever it was needs to be dealt with, as no doubt there will now be a bandwagon of "cyclist bashing" plenty will jump on and the rest of us who cycle have to put up with. I made efforts to be friendly to the horses I meet on the local bridleway (and everyone, really), as if you "have an off" hopefully they'll help you pick yourself up off the floor if they're there.
  3. Any Thomas layouts or ones likely to have trains whizzing round?
  4. I may be wrong, but I thought some sound decoders had "failed start" in. So you'd have to switch the sound off and back on again for another try at starting the loco.
  5. Can I ask why is there now a "forced upgrade" policy and the software shuts down? It used to be you could upgrade at your leisure or not at all, as you could still use the software.
  6. Along with 40ft twin axle flats, I have a couple of Oxford curtainsiders to convert. They have released the newer 45ft triple flat though. I was considering the Langley 35t beavertail low loader but wasn't sure if it would be era correct.
  7. I think the same seller has mk1 transits too, if only they'd done the mk2...
  8. I have ideas to do this, along with trying to get shadows to move throughout the day but that idea got complicated, quick.
  9. Putting your completely unneccessary condescending tone aside, I'll elaborate a little. I know the percentage relates to the chance of rain, not the amount. The forecast stated <5% most of the day, which is the lowest it ever goes. This represents the least chance or lowest probability forecasted, when the reality was it rained. So in my opinion that is wrong, as the forecast and reality were at the complete opposite ends of the scale. Mathematically it wasn't 0, but it was as close to 0 as it ever gets, so I consider it as equivalent.
  10. No mk2 available at present sadly, I know you can get the front from somewhere possibly to graft on but that's a bit beyond me. As long as it's positioned so you can't see the front I'll get away with it I think. Either that or I try and make the markings look faded as if it's ex-British Gas.
  11. I have tried to research this, but I end up with loads of references to a book by a certain Mr Orwell. Buses and lorries seem to be well photographed etc but I'm struggling to find out which other road vehicles would be appropriate for the period. So I'm wondering if I can call on people's memories from that time, I'm modelling 1984 but anything early 80's will do. I'm not sure about those I currently have which are: 2 mk1 ford fiestas (red & green) mini triumph stag rover p6 british leyland princess volvo 240 estate Morris marina Lotus europa British rail sherpa Mk1 transit recovery mk1 british gas transit. I'd be grateful if anyone could let me know if there are any listed that aren't actually suitable for the period, or any very popular cars that are missing. Thanks.
  12. I think they've got less accurate, on more than one occasion I've checked the forecast for a location which has said no more than 10% rain for most of the day. Only to find it completely chucking it down and for over an hour. I appreciate it's a forecast and they get it wrong, but when it says 10% and the reality is 100% that's getting it very wrong.
  13. Our ikea turntable fits to the big jigs/brio/mothercare items. The older ikea with plastic pegs to join doesn't fit, but the current does.
  14. Given we have reached 214 pages of complaining about driving standards I just had a thought (dangerous/fire extinguisher required). In a similar way to secret shoppers, is there such a thing as a "secret driving test candidate"? Otherwise how is it ensured that only those achieving the required standard attain a pass on their test, who examines the examiners if you like. I'm asking as I have witnessed a fair bit of poor driving from those who look as if they have not long passed their test. So you can't help but wonder how they managed it.
  15. I'll have to get at least one pack on order, don't think I can stretch to the bundle sadly! Now that sounds interesting (if a little off-topic)...
  16. Apply LEAN principles and remove the "waste" in the system is the only suggestion I can think of. Treat it like a manufacturing plant. I do like seeing bobbies on the beat, but as long as they keep the crime rate down and have their priorities right I am not bothered how they achieve it. I'd happily see the precept for the police in my council tax go up, if I thought the funds would be used correctly.
  17. I disagree, "boaty mcboatface" came about when the public were involved in choosing the winner. There were several other sensible suggestions that had been put forward, had the judgement been behind closed doors "boaty mcboatface" would've quietly slipped into the bin. Anything would've been better than paying professionals to come up with the branding of "Railway Museum" for a Railway Museum.
  18. Punctuation is just as important, it's the difference between: "Helping your Uncle Jack, off a horse." and "Helping your Uncle, Jack..."
  19. The signal box dereliction article was very good, happy to see more of that - building kits but with adaptations. Prototype inspiration another enjoyable read, but I guess you need to be mindful of how much content you put in as there is already Traction magazine.
  20. Rebranding astounds me, you pay some designer a significant sum of money to come up with a load of cobblers (putting it very mildly) and a new logo. It's money for old rope for these designer people. They could've put it to the public and got some good ideas for nearly free? A competition of some sort.
  21. I thought "Alleycat" was just the name of the poster of the video or who filmed it, I had no idea it had any other meaning.
  22. Ingleborough JunctionKent & North Wales Light Railway (16mm NG) Modelling Faringdon Twin-scale cakebox Build a Salmon wagon New Class 02 diesel kit tested My subs copy just came in the post today and hope it continues for a long while yet, I won't go digital as I usually try and limit "screen time" before bed and I read my copy before I turn over and go to sleep.
  23. The "pacer replacers", I think I have seen pics with a 26, 31, 47 doing those turns.
  24. We don't all ride like that, that group seem to have lost their minds and are lucky to not have lost their lives. I watched the first 90 seconds and that was enough! It's behaviour like that which gives the rest of us a bad name.
