  1. It's in the unfinished projects box, I do want to complete it though. Now I've recently bought a working layout I might have time.
  2. Did a fair bit of operating yesterday and all track is live and working. I do have a couple of streetlights out but there are a couple of loose thinner wires underneath, easy fix I think. One problem I am having I believe are the wheels of my DCC sound 08 and 20 shorting across the insulfrog point frog. Solving this might be a bit of a pain as you really need to cut the link wires under the point then treat it as you would an electrofrog. I don't want to, but might end up pulling the points out and fitting electrofrog ones with the wired frog/crossing. I'd probably go for cobalts to switch them and remove the over centre springs at the same time, Like I say I don't want to do it really, but I don't know of another solution without pulling the points up. I guess it's not that bad as long as I match the ballasting... eek.
  3. I've got the scenic boards up and everywhere except one length of track is fully operational. I suspect a loose wire has happened in the move so will fault find that one when I get some time. It's not a part of the track I'll really be able to use that much without the fiddle yard connected so I can still operate. Now I need to remember how to use my powercab and what all the sound functions on my locos are!
  4. It is no longer for sale as now under new ownership, pity I can only fit the two scenic boards up in its present location. Thanks to Peter for his hospitality etc when I collected it yesterday.
  5. I don't think it's possible in that case, as even long standing stores have changed signage and branding over the years.
  6. WH Smith have been around a long time, Beatties for a model shop, John Menzies (geographical area dependent). Tesco, Presto for supermarkets. BHS, C&A in larger towns. Local family owned butchers, greengrocers (there was a chain but I can't remember the name). Most banks have been around a long time too. You can sometimes find pictures of a high street in the area you're modelling on flickr, if you do the advanced search and restrict the dates of the results too.
  7. I removed the motor from one of my pair of 20's, then they only have lights at the outer ends so are the same address too.
  8. I'd have thought you would be more than inundated with offers to supply the 15 you need for Warley. I really like the fact it also looks like a bridge from underneath and isn't just flat bottomed behind the facade.
  9. It would still be a problem for some to cover adverse weather unless you did the course in the winter, like I did. Then you get to deal with motorway driving in the snow! As you say, well worth it not just for the slight decrease in insurance premium.
  10. Another vote for Skipper and Provincial.
  11. Indeed, I had the pleasure of watching a pair of 24's banked by a 9F, among others.
  12. I use UHU : https://www.ryman.co.uk/uhu-twist-glue-solvent-free-35ml-blister
  13. There's a mental image and a half... not sure it would generate the right kind of interest in modelling though
  14. Dcc concepts sell it I think: https://www.dccconcepts.com/product-category/track-and-track-making-parts/ballast-and-ballasting/ I've seen some and fancy giving it a try.
  15. It somehow, as yet I still have no idea how, seemed to cause a great deal of upset to another forum member. As they were so agitated and distressed by my being silly which caused them not to want to take part themselves, I decided to leave the cakebox challenge alone. If your actions are upsetting someone, no matter whether you understand why, you stop doing it.
  16. Totally agree, by the third episode I was thoroughly tired of the puns. I like a good joke but they were worse than "dad joke" standard by then. To be honest I didn't feel like the pair of presenters added much value personally, both judges seemed more than capable to also host. When one of the presenters made the "radioactive" comment about the low tide scene I thought that was incredibly bad form! I'd like to see more time or larger teams so we have a greater chance of getting something that really looks finished and operates well. It's a pity there can't be more focus on each team sometimes, but you need it to be at least a three way challenge and can't go over an hour long.
  17. It hadn't escaped me that they have essentially cast her as a "Simon Cowell" type judge and she's probably not like that at all. I'm sure the same is true of others who have been on camera too, it's how the director is telling them to act not how they really are. Hopefully the show gets people who aren't already modellers interested, if not in railway modelling then in doing something more creative than poking at a touchscreen.
  18. It's related to an unusual turnover that's been discovered...
  19. Or possibly "but the sat nav said straight over the roundabout..."
  20. I had the joys of motorway driving earlier this week and not once but twice was involved in a near miss exiting the slip road. Both times due to someone 1 or 2 cars infront doing 40mph down the slip road. Que the line of traffic trying to exit the slip road causing HGV's at 56mph to dive for lane 2 etc. Both times a woman in her "senior years". Then there's the Audi's in lane 3 doing warp speed with their radar guided cruise control set in mm and those who will stubbornly refuse to move out of the middle lane. It's incredibly difficult to do 60-70mph I find, you need to speed match and trundle along in with the HGV's at 56mph or do 90mph+ like the Audi club.
  21. If you were closer I'd offer to help, either with sorting it out or swearing at it if it beat me too.
  22. Not sure if I'm allowed to mention on here but there's no active way to sell so maybe it's not a problem, I'll be shortly looking to get rid of weathered and renumbered Bachmann Transpennine coaches, 3 TSO and 1 FO.
  23. This just reminded me, I have an old Dapol 155 and a bunch of Hornby 142 bodyshells somewhere...
  24. Another vote for Provincial Blue.
