  1. Hi again, Despite the B1's need of a polish, it is a great photo. Any idea of the date it was taken? If it's the 60s then I am suprised it hadn't been replaced by a unit as many of the other Edinburgh suburbans had been. Perhaps my terminology is incorrect; would 'filling in turn' make more sense, or be more accurate? Technicalities aside, I'm looking forward to seeing this develop. It's good to see a model of that side of the city that's moves away from the mainline. Regards, Alex.
  2. It's also not a station you'd want to be waiting in on a cold, wet, day thought these days your greatest risk is probably from golf balls .....
  3. Hi Jason, Thanks for that; I'd missed the number in the midst of the text when checking that site against the Yeadon's volume. It certainly implies it received the full wording. Neither Yeadon, nor the relevant RCTS volume, have a photo of her at that stage in her life. A picture would help confirm that the number was on the bunker, and was really that high up it. I'll keep searching. Again, thanks. Regards, Alex.
  4. Hi everyone, Does anyone know if the above locomotive was ever lettered 'BRITISH RAILWAYS'? I have found a few photographs of it taken in the 50s and 60s but, unsurprisingly, none of them show this variation. A link to a photograph would be the ideal answer. The reason I ask is that the first locomotive I bought for myself was a Mainline model of the above; I would like to recreate it using a contemporary Bachmann release but only if I can find proof of the livery. Thanks in advance for any help with this. Regards, Alex.
  5. HI everyone, Probably on a running-in turn from Haymarket. I worked in the Murrayfield area for a while, and met a few former railwaymen who had worked trains on the line. Balgreen Halt was interesting as it stood next to the E&G and Fife Lines but, from images i have seen, served the branch only. Jenners Depository is quite a landmark to this day. Regards, Alex.
  6. Hi everyone, Thanks again for all the help and contributions. As transfers are available to provide both the stripes and the 'Sentinel' badge on the sides, I am now looking to repaint one of my pair into the green livery described in the brochure. This document describes the colour as "mid-Brunswick green"; is anyone aware of a readily available colour that would be a good match, or is it a case of mixing paint while hoping for a reasonable approximation? Current thoughts regarding colour are: 1. Humbrol Brunswick green; or 2. the above colour mixed 50/50 with Humbrol Emerald green; or 3. Humbrol BR/GWR green; 4. seeking somethingfrom the Halfords rattle-can range that's a little lighter than the Humbrol green. Again, many thanks for any help or advice offered. Regards, Alex.
  7. Hi everyone, I came across this trader, by chance, last month and have subsequently placed a number of orders. The service was excellent, and the prices competitive. Enquiries by telephone and email were also dealt with well. Having spoken with one of their staff this week they seemed to be remaining effective and calm in the build up to the current lockdown. They are certainly worth looking into as a supplier. I have no connection with this company other than as a satisfied customer. Regards, Alex.
  8. Hi again, Thanks for posting that image, it's truly helpful. I don't know why, but the brochure artwork is also a style that I like a lot too. Again, thanks. Regards, Alex.
  9. Hi James, Thanks for that. Would that be the same colour scheme as used on the Hornby NCB version? Regards, Alex.
  10. Hi everyone, I though that it would best to post this question here due to the gathered expertise on this sub-forum. Were the Sentinel diesel shunters, of the type manufactured by Hornby, ever supplied in some form of standardised factory finish as with some other locomotive manufacturers? If they were, can anyone tell me what this livery was? Thanks in advance for any help with this. Regards, Alex.
  11. Hi again, I found the magazine but, on a quick look through, don't see the remark I thought was there. There are, though, a number of colour images of 08s in plain green or black with 1948 series numbers. If they're of use I'm happy to note them and post here. Regards, Alex.
  12. Hi, What a fantastic photo. Where was it taken? Thanks, Alex.
  13. Hi seaber, In terms of livery I seem to remember reading that some works were turning them out in black while others had moved onto green. Somewhere I have the relevant edition of MLI; I'll have a look, and see if it gives the last batches that were black. Regards, Alex.
  14. Hi everyone, I've got one of the Hornby green Southern liveried ones that I hope to bash into something more like an E2, though in BR livery. Although I will be leaving it as a short tank version (numbers 32100-32104) I'll be watching this thread for ideas and advice. Good luck with this. Regards, Alex.
  15. Hi Gibbo, Are those EE shunters the same type as the KWVR have? Thanks, Alex.
  16. Hi again, I think you may have just supplied the missing piece. Again, it's a source I had not thought of. Again, many thanks. Regards, Alex.
  17. Hi everyone, Thanks for those responses; it now looks like these stripes started to appear around a decade earlier than I had thought, or had seen in dated photographs. Bernard TPM - that is one seriously ugly paint job! That said, there are impressive modelled versions of such liveries on this forum; they are great craftsmanship! Again, many thanks for sharing your knowledge and understanding. Regards, Alex.
  18. Hi again, Thanks for that link. There are a couple of helpful, partial, views of the tank; I know have a much better idea of how it appears compared to the drawings. The photo of B294 may be the same image I have seen elsewhere, though in those places it's been cropped so the loco fills the space. Again, thanks. Alex.
  19. Hi everyone, As the thread title asks, does anyone have any thoughts as to when industrial locomotives in the UK would have begun to be painted with wasp stripes or similar. Photographs in a couple of books show these stripes in the 1970s, but I wondered if it went back further. Thanks for your time and help. Regards, Alex.
  20. Hi Nick, It hadn't occurred to me to use Streetview. That image already answers a couple of questions. Now I think it's just an image of the tank that I'll need to find. Again, thanks. Regards, Alex.
  21. Well, that's erm, err, um, ..... 'interesting'. It must have been a hit during the decades that I didn't watch TOTP, as I am sure I would recall something like this. Did Madonna sue, or did Mad Donna's use count as parody?
  22. Hi everyone, I am currently working through a few ideas for my next attempt at a layout. One of these involves a small goods yard and loco shed based on a former LBSC line. Littlehampton shed is just the right size, and I have scale drawings of it. I am, however, struggling to find many photographs. Most of what I find are either views of a loco parked at the entrance, or a close-up of one parked alongside; either way I can't find images of the rear of the shed. Can anyone point me toward a source of images. Thanks and regards, Alex.
  23. Hi Jim, Happy to oblige with the 'groan' button. Even by your standards that was awful; mind you, I'm about to share it with my wife (a Scouser). Regards, Alex.
  24. Hi there, Been there, seen it, done it, and regretted it ....... fortunately Halfords, at the time, had some cans that were close enough to suit. Regards, Alex.
