  1. Hi again, Thanks for the information D. Fortunately I have a couple of spare DCC23 decoders, and harnesses to fit them to an 8-pin socket. I have a Bachmann 8-pin chip for a std 3 tank; if everyone has done their measuring accurately the inside of the boiler is 1mm wider that the circuit board of the decoder! I'm hoping the std 4 tank's boiler is the same or better (fingers crossed). Again, thanks for the advice. Regards, Alex.
  2. Hi, Thanks for that. I'll get a proper chance to look at them some time later next week, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for those numbers. Regards, Alex.
  3. Hi everyone, I am trying to find out if certain older models can readily be chipped. I have the opportunity to buy some second-hand Bachmann BR standard class steam locomotives. The are in the older style of 'slimline' boxes, and have no instruction leaflets. Without being in a position to take bodies off prior to purchase does anyone know if they are easily DCC fitted? I don't have catalogue numbers at present, but the classes are all BR standard tender types: class 4mt 2-6-0; class 4mt 4-6-0; and class 5mt 4-6-0. If they are split chassis I'll probably leave well alone, otherwise I am happy to do the work. Thanks in advance for any help offered. Regards, Alex.
  4. Hi, My wife saw the last post. Other than correcting the spelling she said "quite right if you know what's good for you"! Currently looking for a Microsoft software license - other software is, apparently, available. Regards, Alex.
  5. Hi again, What about the USA tanks as a chassis? Bash the cab and boiler from an old Hornby Ivatt? Possible? Regards, Alex.
  6. Hi again, Thanks for the information. I've used Lenz decoders when I first tried my hand at DCC, and never had a problem with them. Regards, Alex.
  7. Hi again, Managed today to get a good look at the new book. Other than the drawing (same one as in the RM?) the most useful stuff are some more photos. That said, from what you've shown here I am not sure the book would offer anything to assist the model. (As far as the book is concerned I think that's something of a pity). It does, however, seem to contain a lot of information about the village and its surrounding area. Hope that's of use/interest. Regards, Alex.
  8. Hi everyone, Sorry if this sounds a daft question, but will the Bachmann standard 8-pin chip (36-553) chip fit their standard class 3 tank (31-981). I have the loco, but don't want to go and buy their chip if it doesn't fit. I know there are smaller chips available from other manufacturers but I am trying to keep all of the decoders from the same make. Thanks in advance for any help offered. Regards, Alex.

  15. Hi again, Just one word in response to such a sweeping statement - Crosti Only kidding - I do like the look of the Standard Classes, though the Crosti boilered ones take a bit of getting used to (especially the proposed Std cl 5 4-6-0). Regards, Alex.

  17. Hi Corbs, Those are the sort of images I had in mind when I asked the question. Interesting variation in tank lengths and shapes too. Have you got round to building one? Again, thanks. Regards, Alex.
