  4. Hi Paul, Thanks for those settings; I'll give them a go. The unit was chipped for a friend, and he's happy with how it runs (as with the Lima sprinter in another thread) but I wanted to try to improve it. Both of us are using Gaugemaster units that will allow us to change those CVs. Thanks again. Regards, Alex.
  5. In all honesty, that's a good question. Another of their branches recently, in Aberdeen, stocks books on North-Eastern steam; they're filed in either Transport or Scottish interest sections. It's a pity that the North-East in question is more about the Tyne, than either the Dee or the Don but geography seemed to be lost on them!! (No offence meant to any of our brethren from NE of England)
  6. Hi again, Iain: Thanks for the lead on DecoderPro - I'll look it up. Gareth: Will look into those values. Changing these with the 3MT transformed it from rough into one of the smoothest, and slowest, runners I have. Thanks and regards, Alex.
  7. Hi Nick & Gareth, Nick: On DC it's what I consider typical for a Lima motor - noisy, fast, and accelerating/decelerating in steps rather than gradually. Gareth: Done that! (Advice you gave me when I lived 20-odd miles from your shop). The friend that it was done for is happy with it, but I would like to have made things just a bit smoother. Thanks again. Regards, Alex.
  8. Hi Iain, Thanks again for posting the link Yes, it came in really useful for transforming my Std. 3 tank. I was led to believe that the settings would be different for a Hornby loco (different motor, no flywheels, lighter chassis, etc). As I am very new to programming CVs, etc, I thought it wiser to ask before spending a lot of time fiddling about with settings without fully knowing what I am doing. Regards, Alex.
  9. Hi everyone, Today seems to be more about fine tuning freshly chipped stock than anything else. Just fitted a DCC23 decoder, via a harness, to a Lima Sprinter. Made no improvement to its performance. Any suggestions about CV settings to make this run a bit better? Thanks in advance for any help offered. Regards,
  10. Hi everyone, Today seems to be more about fine tuning freshly chipped stock than anything else. Just fitted a DCC23 decoder, via a harness, to a non-DCC ready Bachmann 170. Moves off on a crawl on speed step 2 (of 28), then dashes off from step 3. Any suggestions about CV settings to make this a bit smoother? Thanks in advance for any help offered. Regards, Alex.
  11. Hi everyone, If all goes to plan this weekend I will be chipping the last of my locos. I have found alternate CV settings to fine tune all but one of them; can anyone help? Locomotive is a Hornby Fowler 4P 2-6-4t; decoder is a Bachmann 36-553 As ever, thanks in advance for any help offered. Regards, Alex.
  12. Again and again - Status Quo
  13. Hi again, Had an interesting conversation today with a supervisor in a branch of WHS here in Edinburgh. She suggested that because they still had copies of pt. 2; the fact that it isn't every month; and that it will be potentially a fairly short series means that they may not stock pt. 3. She was really quite apologetic about that. Regards, Alex.
  14. Hi AMJ, Thanks for that link. I had contacted the SR about this, and all they could remember was that it had come from Llangollen; they were really quite helpful with my enquiry. Regards, Alex.

  16. Never, never - The Assembly (aka Feargal Sharkey & friends)
  17. Hi, Had to respond to this, as we're limited to just one rating _ I chose 'funny'. This is brilliant, and I can see an English translation of this appearing at a church near me, soon. The following may be apocryphal (I've heard a variant of this where it's at the words of committal at a funeral): A friend was once conducting a wedding and, despite repeated requests to members of the congregation to switch off their phones, he was ignored. Needless to say, as the couple began to make their promises to be faithful and loving to one another, a phone started to play its call-tone. The tune - the theme from 'Mission Impossible'! Regards, Alex.
  18. If tomorrow never comes - Garth Brooks (& Ronan Keating & ..... )
  19. Hi Philsandy, Just got mine out of the cupboard to check - mine doesn't have one either, and it was bought a couple of weeks ago. That said, I used to have one of the old split chassis models and, as far as I can remember, it didn't look much different from the current version. I wonder if it is only the chassis that has changed? Regards, Alex.
  20. Hi again, The Std 3 tank can be fiddly - front screw is obscured by the bogie mount; push the mount too far and it bends the sprung plate that pushes the wheels onto the track. Hope that's of use. Regards, Alex.
