  1. That "gezzer" wot was doin' a reduced size version of what was here before a bit of a storm in a channel, has been, temporarily distracted, with providing the rest of us with a clear and informed of view the process of restoration of the Dover forefront. In the meantime he has also being updating the cliffs of his version of the previous condition of the line. Any complaints about information or progress should be referred, on the first instance, to Network Rail. The "gezzer" previously referred to is possibly enjoying a well deserved relaxing cup of "chai", on the grounds that his efforts are, otherwise unpaid, save for the grateful thoughts and comments herewith recorded. J
  2. ..................... David didn't say how much his ticket was discounted ... On the other hand, it NSE probably need him to pay full price, unless he has a current "Guard's" Ticket.
  3. Curious - the running rails are cut and polished, the Javelin trots towards Folkestone, the power real is still not polished ... ??
  4. Looking at the pictures isn't an exact science, but I could identify at least 11 locos on scene, presumably powered up on DCC, although most static of course. Add to that a few point decoders there is quite a draw on the controller. Thank you for pointing this out, it is easy to forget that the movement of locos is not the only draw on power.
  5. It would also seem that not all topics have the rating stars. Perhaps someone has to kick off the process.
  6. And the hills will resound to the sound of music ............
  7. Nothing like a few midnight grinders to keep the neighbours awake ..................... ...... ....... .....
  8. It occurs to me ..... whilst sipping my mug of tea ... that the bridge is likely to arrive by rail, not only because it is quite long and traffic on the road is not easy to predict or control ..... buuut ..... if it comes by road, they have to off-load it in the lorry park and crane[?] it from there to the bridge piles. Just seems easier to bring it, on one train, with 2 rail cranes, as they/it will have to get there too. Split the train in DP and have the crane on the track nearest to the cliff [Down?] and the trucks with the bridge on the other track [up?]. Lift, rotate, lower slowly onto the superglue tops of the piles ...... pause for dt to capture the moment ... then take the trains back to DP for clipping together again and the return journey. .............................................................................................................................................................. certain to come in by road now! :jester:
  9. ............. good grief, heaven prevent!! ........... it might be large, but at 1:76 - Scott might be well advised to refrain from the attempt .....
  10. Clearly they have given up under the constant oppressive comments from the "rivet counters" and made the required adjustments ..................... ..................... and about time too ....... anything to stop their winging..............
  11. Scaffolding so the workmen can reach to superglue the bridge on the 2 pole tops?
  12. Those tracks seem to be pretty much full of 37s ... and overtime for all those cabs full of drivers on weekend rates ... :jester: .................. Oh, wait? ...... was that Jeremy just popped into the dooway to the toilet block, complaining about drivers taking all the seats? J
  13. Blimey .............. and there was me thinking the dark background was for contrast ...... commiserations on the lack of 'leccie funds JB ... J
  14. Thank you Ray, that makes a lot of things very much clearer. Since posting I did manage to find 2 references, I hadn't seen before, which indicate that WD198 got sent to Long Marston as 98 {I believe, as renumbered around 1968 time, although why the renumbering I am not sure} http://www.wimrail.org.uk/mag/Corkscrew064.pdf about halfway down page 9. and the other was a single picture that turned up in a search, of the 2 Long Marston locos, with Royal Engineer numbered clearly as 98. https://www.flickr.com/photos/22455491@N02/9861757194 I assume that it was painted back as WD198 when it went to the IoW, around 1991??. http://www.iwsteamrailway.co.uk/RoyalEngineer.aspx They all had lively and varied lives in their time and probably deserve more credit than is evident. {They were certainly good fun to drive.} Thank you again for the clear information you posted, it is much appreciated.
  15. I have only just come across this site. A recent question elsewhere has led me here on a search. The original search was to find if there was ever one of these with an Army No 98. I know about the 198, Royal Engineer, at IOW. I can't find any reference to the same loco type numbered just 98. {It seems the type were numberedstarting with 1**} I did get on an Army Railway Operating course, but that was in 1962 and the memory for such detail is not there. Thank you for reading. Julian
  16. The folks who built that Castle didn't have any idea that it would actually attract foreigners and locals alike in more numbers than those they designed the place to keep out.
  17. .............. in case they take too long fitting the Footbridge onto those poles?? ............. in case they get unsavoury persons hanging around the Loos at night??
  18. Essentially yes, but in UK Camouflage and named Gazelle. "B" noisy too, if your office is next to the Heli Pans, for 2 years. Ruins the hearing with the high pitch part of the noise.
  19. Aahh, yes, I hadn't thought of that, thank you. I just assumed it was embarrassed at being left out in the open during the "People in High Places" visit the other day.
  20. I see they moved a "Convenience" next to the one which was so expertly Screened earlier. Soon all there will be remaining will be "two Loos le track.".......... ...............
