Elizabeth Line - a smoooooth ride...

I took an impromptu trip last week as I had a couple of hours to kill in London. Went from Farringdon to Ealing Broadway and then back to Paddington for a walk to Euston.
Quite impressed by it all, but it's just a rapid transit system, so underground on steroids. I imagine for the people that use it daily it's great though, no sooner has one train left another one is arriving.

Slightly bemused why there is no thread for the Ally Pally show.
I look forward to the annual whinge fest about low emission zones and car parking woes...

PLEASE stop using Status updates as a Tinder site. I want to know about White Rabbits and folks' Cats.

I read on some of your older posts you were recreating the Evesham stations. I intend to do the same and would like to see some of your photos of your layout. Thanks in advance.

With huge respect, could the Status Updates be separated from the PM facility. It's getting silly.
Thanks.

I think in general the status update facility is a little but odd.
It sits by the side of the threads, only shows the 4 most recent and is misunderstood by a lot of people.
Not sure what it's true purpose is, it feels like it was added by the software developers in a FaceBook moment but the forum works off threads and there is seemingly no relationship between threads and statuses.
Then a few people use it to announce themselves, or ask a question whereas it is more suited to a jokey comment abouts oneself because it will be gone in a couple of days.
Mostly it looks like it is confused with the PM feature which is quite hidden and what we end up with is inadvertant messages between members that we jokingly join in on just to remind the parties that we can see the message.

i have a Lima Class 117 DMU bought about 3 years ago, foolishly 1 run counted as checked, but i since found problems, Corridor Connections are missing from the Centre Car, and the power bogie just will not stay on the rails, can anybody help please

You might struggle to get help via a status update, it's not very obvious and when four other people post their own status updates this one will disappear from any front facing forum page.
Better to post in here:https://www.rmweb.co.uk/forums/forum/25-modelling-questions-help-and-tips/

Trying to fit a replacement spring on a Kadee coupling. The carpet monster was well-fed in the process!

Just heard from the IET, I'm now an Incorporated Engineer (although I have to wait to get my number before I can use 'IEng'!)

One of the things that endears me to this forum, as compared with a certain other 'specialist gauge 4mm forum' is the fact that very few people on here make a past-time of assuming the guise of self-appointed 'experts' and thus making a seemingly simple or straightforward job as complicated as possible...

I think you'll find you've posted this update in the wrong section of the forum.
It should be in section 20 Wheeltappers subsection: Website Reviews, subsection: Railways subsection: Postive Feedback.
People cannot come on here and just do things how they want to you know, there are rules and guidelines, please read them before posting and if you are unsure just ask me as I know everything about anything.

The new Class 73/1 model is superb, it looks great, and it runs beautifully (I have only used DC) but there are two issues that perhaps need to be mentioned. Firstly, the buckeye couplings are situated at a different height from those attached to Lionheart coaches, so the locomotive cannot be securely coupled to them (the draw-hooks are virtually impossible to access for practical purposes with a three-link coupling). Now I don't know which couplings are at the correct height, but there perhaps ought to be some standardisation agreed between manufacturers, particularly as modellers are likely to have invested quite a lot of money when buying their rolling stock from more than one source. The other issue is the (lack of) clarity of the instructions for attaching a decoder and sound system. The colour images of the decoder and the inside of the body-shell on the inserted leaflet in particular have been printed at such a small scale that it is impossible to see any details properly (remember the ages of most potential owners!), so it would be very helpful if on-line assistance could be provided in the form of larger (and better lit) illustrations so that the pins may be seen clearly, and with sequential, clear, instructions about how and exactly where to connect the ESU LokSound VS XL decoder to the EM2 speaker wires. Not all purchasers will be experts in DCC, or indeed be experienced in performing fiddly soldering tasks, and I for one, do not wish to destroy my new decoder. A better option still would be for Heljan to sell sound-equipped models at a higher price - given the ready availability of sound-equipped models elsewhere, I think that you might have missed a trick here. This model has undeniably set a new benchmark for Heljan to live up to!

@David Element Just so you know, this message is actually a post to Ben's wall so everyone can see it.

Why is Google complete rubbish at finding flickr pictures? (Or maybe flickr has a default 'no-follow' robots rule?)

I think because Google wants to sell you stuff.
I feel whenever I do a search, say for a class of locomotive, most of the images that come up are linked to retail sites and most of the images seem to be models.
Now it may be partially because Google now knows I like model railways but I think its mainly because they are paid to push retail.
Bing isn't much better when searching I need to be careful that the sites it gives me are definitely the sites I want and not an aggregation site that is actually selling products or leads.
Many years ago Google used to be great but I can never find old images now because so much of the content is sales led and not history led.

Sad day today. JET the fusion research tokomak finishes its roll today. A great place to work at and a great place to meet and work with like minded engineers.

Whilst the UK hopes for 2040 and cannot guarantee it will work.
That has all the hallmarks of a project that will see cut after cut until we have no alernative but to buy whatever the EU/America/Russians & Chinese have poured their combined intelligence into.
All feels like a massive politcal gamble because 'EU'
