  1. Well I wasn't wrong was I I cannot believe how awful the pit side of Mercedes were yesterday, they say don't take out your team mate on track - what is the equivalent for the management & pit side - destroying both drivers day in the space of two laps - the puncture only finishing the calamity. My guess for 2022 is either Hamilton / Russell or if Hamilton retires and he might - Perez and Russell.
  2. I wonder how many of them realise that everything the post on the internet from their mobile phone whilst sat in a coffee shop drinking a chai latte with angel foam is being tracked
  3. It can go very wrong when looking for them if you don't quite get the search words right, dont search funny pussy videos.
  4. Wow what a race, what a result, never saw that coming, did you see that overtaking manouvere, There got in some words appropriate to the race as like Andrew I will not be looking at the result before I watch the race on C4 late tonight after Mrs W has gone to bed as she thinks racing is awful.
  5. I'm glad you found your answer, when I read ear worm the only thing I thought of was Mr Ball Legs and it wouldn't have been much help
  6. And in real business terms are still quite a small company - they had a dominant position, probably less so now they have lost Bachmann and it's products. Rails are doing DCC chips, do you think they will cause Zimo, ESU, DCC Concepts and Digitrains to go out of business? I think the baseboards are a good idea but I don't think they will take out the specialists like Tim Horn or Grainge and Hodder because they deliver quality products and can bespoke to your needs, Hattons are looking at mass production to a different market. Hattons will have pulled the product because they cannot source the quality of product they want at the price point they need to make the project pay - once they find such a supply you will likely see a relaunch.
  7. Good to see the McLarens up there in around the Racing Points, another decent points haul this week will do them wonders for the third place.
  8. It's interesting which locos you have an affectionate bond to one day and will toss into the sale pile the next.

As I move into DCC I now look at a pile of N gauge locos from the pre-DCC period and recognise I will likely never run them again if I keep them.

Even some of my OO stuff is now going into the pile as regretted purchases and things that I wouldn't run if I did another OO gauge layout need to go.

My very first railway from the 1970s is in the pile too, it hasn't seen proper use since I was a child, I kept hold of it whilst my dad was alive, but it has no chance of being used, it was mostly second hand when I received it.  It's sad but what can you do, you can't keep everything forever.

No point keeping stuff you're not going to use only for your family to find it when you're gone and have to dispose of it.

I've a couple of cardboard boxes of old Hornby stuff that are worth peanuts and not in a condition to attract a collector of curiosities.  Ok, I could Ebay them and given the current climate, I might get something from them after fees and postage, but perhaps the best would be to donate them to a charity shop so they do some good elsewhere.

As for current stuff, I'm fighting off "change of gauge" scenarios!  :jester:

I'm not thinking that far ahead, but for the "good" stuff I'm maintaining a list of what is there and what the going rate at time of compilation is as a starting point.  If it leaves the collection, it leaves the list...

Change of gauge, tell me about it, I am considering how I will resist an Accurscale 37/0 when they get around to the centre headcode version.

And then I look at Geeps and shunting puzzles.

I really must reduce my stock first.

Whilst I am making a first foray into reducing my OO fleet a little around the edges I am wondering when I will actually use what I have left - if the N takes off and if I am seriously putting money into the layout with DCC then I don't see an OO layout beyond a plank.  I noted the class 128 Digitrains sound file whilst looking for a 40 sound project and that makes me smile for running a RevolutioN 128 when it arrives.  My heart seems to calling me back to N proper.

      Interests evolve and tastes change.

I realised some time ago that at my usual rate of construction (a loco a year?) I wasn't going to live long enough to build even half the kits in my stash.  The obvious ones to move on were those that no longer fitted in with my current tastes and interests.  Trouble was, those were the ones that I'd already part-built and - as we all know - part-built kits are those that are hardest to shift.

I suppose the moral of this tale is to buy any kit that takes your fancy while it is available (because it might not be available any more by the time you actually have use for it) but dont even think about starting it until you actually have use for it and, once started, dont stop until it's finished.

  9. So last night I was contemplating making a purchase of the sound fitted 31 as they seem to have hit the shelves unexpectedly early. Had my eye on Rails, but when I logged on today - they've sold out of Blue sound models and no option to pre-order, Kernow too and a lot of shops are only showing the unchipped versions. Scrabbling around I found that TMC had 10+ and at the same price as Rails with free delivery too, so big sigh of relief. Suppose I'd best pre-order a 40 for March. Over to my stock box, I need to sell stuff now to pay for my foray into DCC and Sound in N.
  10. I'm not being overly pessimistic just realistic, that if (and if) the UK and EU fail to sort things in the next couple of weeks then early 2021 will be difficult. What is my barometer, my employers are involved in assisting with the fallout. I agree the world won't stop, the sky won't fall in, but I am expecting there to be some issues at the beginning - nothing ever goes completely smoothly when it is something very new and let's face it a hard border with the EU is not something we have faced in recent times. Keeping the ecomony moving, bringing in food and medicines will be the main priority, everything else will wait in turn.
  11. If there is a hard Brexit you can also bet on high value, perishable and medical items getting priority when customs get around to releasing stuff - potentially customs are going to be very busy from January, Kent will be a lorry park. It got a good review from Hornby Magazine so that would suggest KR Models have met their promise to deliver a GT3, now it is in the lap of the gods how quickly they can be in the hands of those lucky enough to have purchased one.
  12. Olivias has a poor reputation, Hattons does not, it would have been good business for Olivias to move them all themselves at full price like Kernow managed with most of their own models but Olivias like with the 76/77 is seeing the stock move too slowly and has had to let Hattons have a go and is clearly doing a good job of moving them on.
  13. I doubt it, the fact Hattons has them from Olivias to sell at a discount, like they did with the 76/77s, would suggest Olivia's wants the cash and isn't wanting them hanging around their storeroom much longer.
  14. The class 58 is through EFE and is a rebadged Heljan model, built by Heljan to be distributed through EFE. A class 56 is probably not on the cards in the short term unless someone else fancies taking on Hornby with a very high quality model. Any challenge to the Hornby model will be met in the same manner other duplicates have been met by Hornby, agressively.
  15. But on the other hand making a struggling car work for you is good learning, he doesn't need to be bombing about in a pink Mercedes. I think the fact that Mercedes have called on him and not the reserve driver indicates they have complete belief in him as a future driver. Bottas has one season left, as does Russell with Williams - 2022 he will be alongside Lewis before replacing Lewis when he retires.
  16. The more manufacturers there are in N, the more product will come to market, the more attractive N gauge becomes again. When Farish and Dapol were at each other at the beginning of this century (makes it sound a really long time ago!!) it spurred improvements on both sides and lots of product for us to buy. Farish are already reacting to changes by including speakers and Next18 sockets in their latest products, this will also put pressure on other manufacturers into innovating and keeping up in specifications which is good for the market. Having Sonic, Rapido, RevolutioN, Dapol, Kato, Farish and maybe even Hornby again via Arnold means there is still a place for N in the UK and it's quite exciting to see what will come of it.
  17. He is a Mercedes protege, he is at Williams to learn his craft, no-one doubts his ability at Mercedes but they are waiting for the right time to bring him in proper. The question is he a Bottas or a Hamilton for the team, I hopes it's the latter.
  18. "George, Valteri, despite being three places behind you, is quicker than you. Can you let him past please"
  19. As long as there is 1970s blue, always gotta have a proper blue period model, in Midland region form.
  20. Ahh like training non medical staff to administer vaccines using an online training package
  21. I was really hoping the boat might move at the end
  22. I think requiring a new system to override pilot inputs on aircraft pitch would suggest the plane is inherently unstable and more than just a training matter.
  23. Any news on the order book, my wallet is itching to spend
  24. The 747 was due for retirement in any case, they just brought it forward. The A380 was already an albatross before COVID as it became obvious that the world wanted efficient 2 engine jets going forward not 4 engine behemoths. Faster rail travel reduces air travel which cuts the pollution that kills the trees (young or old, pollution doesn't differentiate).
