  1. The more manufacturers there are in N, the more product will come to market, the more attractive N gauge becomes again. When Farish and Dapol were at each other at the beginning of this century (makes it sound a really long time ago!!) it spurred improvements on both sides and lots of product for us to buy. Farish are already reacting to changes by including speakers and Next18 sockets in their latest products, this will also put pressure on other manufacturers into innovating and keeping up in specifications which is good for the market. Having Sonic, Rapido, RevolutioN, Dapol, Kato, Farish and maybe even Hornby again via Arnold means there is still a place for N in the UK and it's quite exciting to see what will come of it.
  2. He is a Mercedes protege, he is at Williams to learn his craft, no-one doubts his ability at Mercedes but they are waiting for the right time to bring him in proper. The question is he a Bottas or a Hamilton for the team, I hopes it's the latter.
  3. "George, Valteri, despite being three places behind you, is quicker than you. Can you let him past please"
  4. As long as there is 1970s blue, always gotta have a proper blue period model, in Midland region form.
  5. Ahh like training non medical staff to administer vaccines using an online training package
  6. I was really hoping the boat might move at the end
  7. I think requiring a new system to override pilot inputs on aircraft pitch would suggest the plane is inherently unstable and more than just a training matter.
  8. Any news on the order book, my wallet is itching to spend
  9. The 747 was due for retirement in any case, they just brought it forward. The A380 was already an albatross before COVID as it became obvious that the world wanted efficient 2 engine jets going forward not 4 engine behemoths. Faster rail travel reduces air travel which cuts the pollution that kills the trees (young or old, pollution doesn't differentiate).
  10. The big difference with the 737 over the other airliners being developed was the engines - they stuck massive engines on the Max and this software solution was the fix to return the aircraft to stability. I.E. they took a stable aircraft in the 737 and made it unstable then used software to fix the issue they had created. Hopefully the 787 and 777 the design was holistic to the airframe, wings and body to generate a stable design and they didn't need a piece of software to keep it straight. Lesson: it's ok to design aircraft that shouldn't fly but do only because of computers if you're building a military single seater that has to be an odd shape for stealth, but if you are expecting that computers will always work in a civilian passenger airliner then you've lost the plot.
  11. Managed to get the last centre headcode blue 40 (371-182) from Arcadia, happy chappy. It is speaker fitted so I just need to purchase the Next18 sound chip from youchoos and away I go. I can add a disc 40 when it arrives in March, will have to think if I go Bachmann sound or youchoos on that one. Having looked at the hacking to get a speaker into a 24 or 25 I will leave them silent.
  12. Unless we can make magnetic resonance work. https://thewirelesssolution.co.uk/blogs/information/what-is-resonant-charging-and-how-does-it-differ-from-inductive
  13. Lets hope RevolutioN don't announce the same thing on Facebook It's a interesting prototype and right up there with something only Rapido would think of. I am sure I can justify one if I stretch Rule #1
  14. Until the RAIB report it's probably best not to blame machines - it could yet turn out that it was human error or delayed maintenance that was the underlying cause.
  15. As long as what is produced isn't a number 2
  16. New person to follow on YouTube.
  17. The problem with technology based solutions is that they are quickly superseded and the old ways become obsolete. Take Apple as an example with the aux socket being removed, having a non standard connector, doing away now with the connector altogether. Or to the more extreme - video - dvd - download. The near constant change in standards and technical solutions means you constantly play catch up - does that mean over time older EV vehicles become obsolete because the industry changes the standards and forces you to upgrade your vehicle just like PCs or phones etc. At least with petrol and diesel the world had reached a point where there was almost complete universitality of the fuel product to be used in vehicles.
  18. Ghost trains for getting the drivers refreshed, Santa specials begin soon. Given the turbulent year plus the shenanigans with the boards it is good to see trains running again on the WSR
  19. It was the Well Tank that attracted me back to OO from N and I was never disappointed with either of my Kernow/DJM versions. The only time they struggled was with Hornby ex LSWR coaches which had the brake gear rubbing on the wheels adding a lot of resistance - solved by hacking off the brake shoes. My two 02s are also lovely runners, better than my Hornby M7s. I'm glad you've now got a good one and can enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed running mine.
  20. You need to look at this thread for the latest version of the Class 86 that Heljan are developing and that Gaugemaster will be using for their models.
  21. Peco also did a 2251 Collett - it kickstarted DCC in UK N gauge, their previous loco was the Jubilee some 30 years earlier. It would be good if Kato made a bigger investment in the UK market, but a collaboration with Peco doesn't mean entry into mass market but providing support to a niche model - Bachmann are also investing in 009 and Heljan had a dabble.
  22. Plaza Japan is amazing - over 124 pages of N gauge trains including some motorised sushi. Ok a lot is out of stock, but it shows the breadth of Kato, Tomix, Tomytec and other models. We really have it poor in comparison for N gauge.
  23. It all depends why Kato chose to produce an N gauge model of a Japanese designed train for the UK market. Is it because it a Japanese designed train or because they believe there is a market in the UK it can tap like the US. It's one train in two liveries, they had years to do an iconic HST and didn't. With no indication of what comes next it may be that the best short term route to an 800 derivative would be after market vinyl overlays for the other liveries.
  24. Actually, I do know someone who could help and he doesn't reside in Bootle. He has experience and lives in a Parochial house..... With acknowledgement to http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/3p8vfp for the meme.
